Aurora Indica: Should it be this simple?

Ha! fantastic post LOL I was asking if you knew why many people don't do CFL grows with more than 1 plant in a really big pot. I have 2 x 1 1/2 ft windowbox pots. One is alone and two are sharing. I was figuring they don't get big enough with a good CFL grow to have too much competing for space. I asked because you said that you have read many books on growing.

I completely get it with the medicating. Ever since my first high, I realized its anxiety and stress reducing qualities. And now that I smoke everyday even my blood pressure has gone down low enough to where I can get off my prescription.

So, your last harvest put you up to about 1/2 a pound, right? How long will that last you? If I had anywhere near that much of a yield I would feel almost morally obligated to sell some of it, LOL. But I was wondering what kind of high AI has. Are there any odd quirks to the grow that you didn't expect?

And I'm also 100% on the notion that this is a gift from God. The fact that there is a medicine that I can make myself which not only cure my hypertension but also will help me get to sleep at a decent hour AND improve my quality of life in public situations is proof enough for me.

Take care

hell yea bro,
and the half p will last me a couple months i would say? i am selling a little bit of it,(second plant hermied, and some buds have empty seed sacks and are not the most visaully appealing, so ill sell em, and make my money back but im smoking most of it to me, ill probly smoke 6 oz, and sell 2 maybe, but only to close friends who i feel deserve to smoke it, not just randoms, i mean its my little girlies!
AI has a really nice high, and for the grow and the quirks, i would say its relatively way too easy because of the shit i got from my first time. The one thing i know is it is an easy hermieing strain, cause i did it on accident within like 4 days of harvesting too late, and i am DAMN GLAD it hermied, cause i have about 160+ viable seeds, which are hermies or females, so im good, although i am not gonna grow AI again within the near future, ill save them for a couple years down the road and they will have increased in sentimental value(first grow seeds, who can say they still got them?), im more of a lover of all types of the weed, i would like to obtain CDD(Chemdog D) when GHS releases it, if not im growing one of the other phenotypes by gettin clones, then later i wanna get the original 1970s stabilized haze and create my own haze with another cross, yummy. Im about to start indoor grow #2 and am about to harvest outdoor grow #1, no nutes nothing just rain and the earth and the sun, wow i love nature! they are nothing in size, but wow i cannot fathom how much trichs are on the leaves, wow. And yea pretty much everything you said and then some is why i love weed, im just way too busy to type it out, somehow someone always says it exactly eventually.

So here we are in day 6 from the first show of green and I have 2 fully formed sets of true leaves that are looking nice and green and healthy. The seed leaves are turning just a bit yellow at their tips, though. The Buds For Less book I bought shows those things staying green almost the whole way through the grow. I hope there isn't a problem. I haven't given fertilizers yet and I will hold off on it until I get to about 3 sets...

I have those two late starters in the clay starting pots to begin them, but I am figuring that they are not going to be worth my while in growing so I might try a little experiment with 2 more seeds and just plant them in perlite with a reservoir tub beneath so the water and nutes can just wick up naturally and I won't disturb the seedlings as they grow. I still worry about uprooting Johnnie with the watering.

I added about 500mL yesterday just all at once because I was running late for work. Beyond that I have had to raise the light up just about an inch because she is putting on height now! The width hasn't increased since the last pics though.

Damn, it's exciting to grow your own weed! Enjoy the pics.

Well I woke up this morning and found a great surprise. There was a virtual explosion of growth in Johnnie last night. I have also done a little hydro experiment with a cut up gallon milk jug bottom filled with perlite and just plain 6.5 pH water in its "reservoir" Haven't gotten any sprouting but I will have pics of all this amazing stuff after class. Don't worry it is only about 4 hours away.

It's good to get out at noon!

So, I just got home from school and got to my closet with the camera and I saw a gorgeous site. Moved the light from the top of my seedling and I caught a glimpse of that cross-shaped leaf pattern that I love so much in the smaller plants. Here it is:
DSC00174.jpg

I tell you, if there was ever a more powerful symbol for a cause I would pay to see it!

Next I took a little closer look to look at something a little odd and I see that my new big cross leaves are coming in with 3 pieces each!
DSC00172.jpg

Then, I got a little closer to see what was going on with the seed leaves that were getting a little yellowing on the tips and I saw my meristem looking green and healthy. This pic is so close you can count the hairs on the leaves and get a good look at those cotelydons. Can anyone tell me if that is normal for this strain?

Last up is the one seed I placed in my experimental 'Ultra Low Maintenance Hydro' setup. Its just some pH balanced plain water, the lower 3rd of a gallon milk jug, filled with perlite, with some hand cut holes in the bottom sitting in a disposable aluminum reservoir. I am depending on capillary action to with enough moisture to the seed and I have it in a Jiffy dome to make sure it doesn't dry out. When it's bigger and the roots go deeper I will not have to worry as much about it drying out and I will set it along side Johnnie. I also have the last of the first three seedlings still trying to get a peek out of the ground. It's got about 1 more week before I lose my patience with it. No water for any of them this afternoon but ol' lazy bones will get about 250mL before I go to sleep. I have clinicals for the next couple of days so I will be pretty quiet until Thursday night. Take care!

Canabizness - Definitely true for the mental and physical health benefite of growing your own! 10,000%!!!! I woke up just disgusted with having to wake up this morning and the moment I peered in and saw that green cross smiling at me, my whole day turned around! I am, literally, sitting here bouncing in my seat cuz I'm so happy. And I am not even smoked out yet! And as far as sellingonly to the worthy, I might sell some to my dad and my sister if I have more than enough to last me for 2 months. I have a lot of lighting potential in this little closet so I think I maky have a good little bit from just one plant....

bxke1414 - Looking good dude!
Thanks! I have been doing my best... My biggest hurdle so far is germination and after that... it really just does itself.

Oh, I have only one concern. My plan now has 2 good sized sets of true leaves with one about a day or two away from being the same, but I am still looking at a plant that is barely 2 and 1/2 inches tall with a mighty generous ruler.... Is this normal for AI? Heavy indicas in general? I thought the stem was short because of the watering trauma but I am seeing literally NO stretch in the past few days. If this is a girl and the smoke is good, though... it will be kept and cloned for the rest of my days, if I can do it that long. Robust germination, EXTREMELY squat, and very forgiving with mistakes and accidents.... And with Cannabizness' results I know that I can make hellacious yields without too much fuss... I'll be in heaven if this has a great flavor, too!

Do a search for the 'Hempy Bucket', it's pretty similar to your passive hydro idea.

Aww! I had thought I was being creative and original! LOL That looks like a much better idea for a plant that is going to get much bigger than my babies, but if I run into any problems with this experiment as far as size goes, I will definitely get a bigger 'bucket'. I might like this better than soil growing! We'll see in a few months. Thanks for the concept! And I love that avatar!

The main difference between the Hempy Bucket and what you're doing, is that you'd usually mix 25% Vermiculite with the perlite for it's water whicking properties. Can be done it any size.

noticed you mention problem with soil drying quicker. i too had same problem and solved it with some white cardboard.

i cut cardboard so it would sit on the inside lip of my pot and cut a large centre hole. when in place the seedling grew up through the hole and was helped by the card reflecting light. it also stopped my soil drying real quick too. i would think you can do it with mylar too if your careful and use string/twine too hold it over pots.

it is kinda normal man, My plants started off REALLY slow, most indicas are nice with the boosting off the beginning, but i noticed i was having a bitch of a time until my plants hit the 8" mark, then they SHOT OFF like crazy, and i started LSTing and all that, all i can say to you is, AI can take SHITLOAD of nutrients and molasses and all that, its a very hearty strain, and it will reward you if you are generous, trust me. Its not one of those strains that easily nute burns and shocks, it can handle her own(and the males grow vigorously outdoors, wow i ended up cutting the top off accidentally(4 feet high) and like 80 diff side nodes branched up in2 days to cover the top, it was sickening.
Dont worry, i just took some nutes and molasses out to my outdoors, AND THEY ARE PURPLE HOLY SHIT!, i didnt think the random seeds my boys dad gave me had such good genes, this shit is turning the whole plant purple, and it smells disgusting, i cant wait! (the grosser your trees smell before harvest/cure usually means the better the final smell and taste). The buds are full out purple, with pink hairs busting out the sides, and then i have 2 other random genes, one looks like some strawberry haze or some shit its got pinkish white hairs looking like a fruit, i love nature. And now i got 2 sprouts(female WW and female bagseed(black)) Growing in my cfl box cause i felt like doing something, dont need to grow them. Ballin.

Thats a mighty fine idea! I will have to try the card thing... I have been to walmart so many times to find they don't have those emergency blankets so I just went with some aluminum foil, shiny side to the interior.

Ahh! Cannabizness, you have gone from a first time grower to Ganja Stud in the time it takes to harvest the copious amounts of bud you've grown. After I have my little mud hut out in the country I may be able to give you a runn for your money. I really wan't some good buds but I still have to worry about the smell, lol. I will see what I can rig up to take care of any stink that comes up.

I will have updates and pics tomorrow... just don't have time or energy aftr clinicals today. Take care!

Turn my back for ONE two day clinical rotation and what do I find? little baby nodes with leaflets coming out of everywhere! even from the sides of the first set! I will have pics for you tomorrow. I got side tracked tonight when I bumped over a whole much of my candles and broke all their glass containers on the floor... Tomorrow though You guys are in for a treat!

Well, I got up and didn't break anything in my attempt to bring some pics of my first plant's progress so here you go... notice the new set of leaflets growing in at the base of the first set of true leaves!
DSC00176.jpg

I have noticed a few yellow streaks on the fleshy ridges of my biggest set of leaves and there are a couple of browning spots on the leaves that are coming in but they are so few and so tiny that I am not worried. Pretty sure they were just from some droplets of water that might have spilled on the leaves when I watered the other day.
DSC00177.jpg
DSC00178.jpg

This new node that is forming seems to have 5 leaf segments and there is also yet another teeny-tiny set of leaves just medial to those newer ones. If it wasn't for the few yellow streaks, this would kind of resemble a cheerleader, wouldn't it? Pom-poms raised high and a big, happy, green face! The best kind of cheerleader if you ask me!
DSC00179.jpg

This last one is just a show of how close and how many lights I have been using to get these results. You can't fully appreciate the magnitude of that 300w equivalent bulb from this PoV, but it is HUGE. I swear! It is like a normal CFL only MUCH, MUCH bigger! I took it out of its box and held it at eye level and somehow felt inadequate... LOL
DSC00180.jpg

So, I was wondering if this discoloration would be a nute deficiency? The only thing I have given it in the past week that wasn't plain water was about 500ml of water with 1/8th strength 0.2-0.2-0.2 liquid fertilizer. I certainly hope that it isn't nute burn!!! I was wondering if I could green up those leaves with some nitrogen added to my next watering? I am at day 10 from seed, so is it too soon? Or does it already look green enough?

In other news my new seed that I poot in the hydroponic experiment has finally shownup. it is still halfway in the ground though... just the stem is showing and it looks a bit pathetic so I will forego the pic of that one til it gets a little bulk and more green. Hope you enjoyed and I hope this is a girl! There is so much potential in this if she is...

im getting the same type brown spots on my leaves. i was thinking lights too close just moved then to about 6" away..was wondering how close are your lights?

Thanks Td! I hope that my baby is A. A girl and B. Going to get over this leaf burn. I haven't been to check my grow since about 6am so after the 15 hours of uninterrupted light, I hope that it has gotten a bit better and hasn't grown into the lights. Oh and in addition I got a new Oz of my usual stash to tide me over till my grow has a yield but what did I find? Someone left a strapping young lad with all their ladies and my Brain Spinach has many MANY apparently viable seeds... You see if I wasn't a grower I would be upset... but I just got a free $100 worth of seeds for a strain that I know is a keeper. Seeing as how I can probably grow it better with my own grow... Better Flavor and probably better potency... The high is great but there is just NO love in this weed and it shows...

My lights are about 2 inches away from the plant. I have three of them on my one little plant right now and a fan to keep it cool one 6500k 26w, 1 2700k 42w, and one 2700k 60w. I really did expect that the leaves would be greener the veins are good and green but the fleashy parts are lighter than I expected I guess they will get greener with age...
