attitude towards newbs

what i have got to say is this. i really enjoy this site as there is no lack of good guys willing to help others out. the one thing that does bother me is the way some people treat the newbs. they are often ridiculed for asking stupid questions. as far as im concerned there is no such thing as a stupid question. try to think about some of the questions we asked when we first started. when it comes to growing i find most of the stupidity seems to come from the answers . uneducated growers giving answers when they should be asking. we all had to start somewhere . something to think about. this craft is not learned in a couple grows. peace out

well you know how the saying goes, there's a bad apple in every bunch...most of the guys here are great, only had one or two to shoot me down, but my skin ain't thin. I grew up with three older brothers so you can imagine, I've been tortured beyond belief. There ain't much upsets this girl

All good though, it's like a pool I guess, jump right in or stay on the edge and be bored.

nothing against noobs, we were all one at some point... but

i never once had to ask a dumb question.
i searched online for all the information i needed, not asked for handouts.

I currently exchange experiences with fellow growers over nutes, equipment, and techniques.
which is one thing...

basically my only 2 issues with new growers.

asking if a plant is male/female. identifying male/female is just about the easiest thing you can do.
yield questions. yield is just about impossible to guess. and jesus christ, you get what you get. NEVER plan for a certain yield until you've dialed in a grow. period.
that and other shit that you should be able to figure out with some basic common sense are things you should NEVER need to ask.

you honestly don't need to ask anyone a single question. you can learn everything you need to know with some time into research.
people just hate doing the work i suppose.

Yep.
I spent easily about 200 hours on research before I even planted my first pip. (George Cervantes and Ryan Riley mostly).
I still do refreshers as I get to each new stage or repeat a stage in the grow.

I'm a newb and no one has been mean to me......yet hahaha

But seriously there are some really stupid questions asked and some want there hand held
And everyone no matter who you are or how good you are it gets tiring

There are just some that have less patience than others, but a lot of hostility when aimed at Newbs, is due to arguing, or asking questions like 'how much will I get?', or the ever famous 'Is it ready yet?' with no picture, or a blurry pic from 5 feet away.

Hear you Lima Charlie (loud and clear). Put most people in my job positions and they would crap their pants. I was first an MP, then a CID agent, and finally a nurse. Never have I belittled someone for attempting to carry any sacred torch. As a cop and then investigator I was well trained as to my job and then to train those around me. If it works then proliferate it! As a nurse I became tired of the narcotics my patients were prescribed. Medical marijuana worked for them, always. My law-enforcement training told me "no" in such a visceral way and yet the truth was that people received respite from countless maladies. I was converted. People should know when to dismount their "high horse" and then pony up with the truth. In training with FBI and other Feds I know that if you don't stand united you(we) will all fall. They (I used to say "we") count on this. When people stand united for what is reasonable we all benefit. This includes the perpetuation of marijuana science pertaining to genetics, efficacy, and economic viability other than ingestion as well. Any one person on this forum not willing to feed the future should be "weeded" out. As far as guys on this forum not being gratuitous, we all within our own professions could write a book about what they don't know. Strange thing is that they might be on a carpenter's forum or computer software forum as a newbie and be pissed by the same behavior they perpetuate here. Dear op....u obviously don't understand how the human being operates...some use this site for learning how to grow...some use it to help others learn how to grow...some ppl use it for entertainment....here's where what ur talking abt comes into play...entertainment...what entertains u may not entertain me...and so on n so forth....I'd say quite a few ppl find it either entertaining or in some sick way self fulfilling to bash on newbs...u don't have to like it hell u don't even have to understand it...but it is what it is.n its never gonna change.

I agree with most of that, but I think almost everybody has a question at some point or other, or maybe just wants another opinion to see if their decision is right, but you're right, there is a lot of diarrhea of the keyboard without thinking and using a little common sense first.

It's the Internet. This is not the place to learn how to grow. Invest in a book or a how to video from a professional that has controlled conditions and where the outcome can be predicted. RIU is no different than any other on-line forum. You can't keep trolling kids and fed-up vets from reacting to questions. Really, RIU is an entertainment forum sprinkled with occasional good information that only applies to growers with exactly the same environmental conditions. How can it be anything else if anyone can reply to a posting?

Hint for newbs: keep the questions simple, don't react rudely to replies, learn the basics, research the grower before taking advice, upload pictures of your problem, wait until you have several replies before deciding on your solution, thank the folks that took the time to reply to your questions.

Yeah, coming to the table with relevant facts and a clear case with perhaps some partial/full solutions always helps one's plight. Getting ready for some Sofa Lockdown Sarcophakush. Peace to all.

hey brother, i'm learning just like the rest of the newbs. I just do it with style!

Its not that newbs ask dumb questions, often times they are just too lazy to look it up themselves.

Agreed, when I see very similar leaves, and I reply to 3 different threads within a 24 hour period, clearly illustrating what it looks like.. thread #4 magically appears. I'm really tempted to write a def/toxicity guide that covers -everything-... N, P, K, and all the trace.. at start / middle / you're boned stages.

and all you fine people are the reason why I am here. The other forums treat noobs as idiots without brains. I was an idiot when I first started. The questions, what's wrong, how to tell sex, it is ready yet, were all questions I asked. That said, I have found this wonderful new invention called YOUTUBE. Jorge Cervantes (sp) has some great stuff, no deposit required. Plus Grow420guide is an excellent resource for noobs, from starting to sowing to harvesting, hell he even covers topping, fimming, and LST (low stress training) which I found very helpful. The rest I read, on this forum and on Grasscity. Also hit a few botany sites. Never joined it, just read a lot. So much my eyeballs were falling out. But you know what? I'm proud of myself because when I first started growing not many folks here showed anger to me, they were very helpful and blunt with their advice. Knowledge is for the people and I by chance, am a computer tech, so I've heard some pretty silly questions on that end, so I can understand. Peace out ya'll, its nighty night for Rosey.
