I have an attic that already has an electric outlet in it and I'm thhinking I wanna start my grow room in the attic rather than my closet, however the attic floor is covered with insulation will this pose a problem? Can I just throw some wood on the insulation and put my plants on the wood or will I need to build a grow box up there to protect my plants from dust, insulation particals etc??? I could really use some suggestions from you guys thanks!

Where do you live? That might be hot as hell up there in the summer. My friend has an attic grow room but does not grow in the summer due to the heat.

it will get wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to hot up there in the summer and even the early fall. in the winter, you'll need heat. not a good idea. use a basement or outdoor shed if you have one, even one of those plastic ones from home depot for like 500 bucks.

Yeah, attic is a bad idea. Heat is almost always an issue with any indoor grow. Regulating temps in an attic is just about impossible.

A few issues:

1. Heat. You will not be able to grow in the summer unless you live in northern Alaska.
2. Perhaps not enough electrical. That single outlet is probably run with 14 gauge wire which can only safely carry 15 peak amps or about 12 steady amps. That translates to only 1440 watts, which is good for a very small grow. Running new electrical to an attic is a bitch.
3. Poor air quality. Attics are dusty and filled with fiberglass / cellulose insulation which isn't a good environment to grow in.

In a basement, it's easy to run new electrical, it's cold and if you take care of it, it can be a very clean place to grow. Take the time and effort to build a closet or a small room that you can lock. You never want your friends to stumble across your grow, because if they ever get busted, you can bet that they'll hand your ass over to avoid a record.

Okay good feedback guys thanks for all the quick suggestions! now to clear up a few things so you know what I'm working with, first off I live in hawaii so yeah summer gets hot and humid but I do live slightly in upper elevation so its not as hot as most areas in hawaii, second I do not have a basement so that's out, third I am using 600w LED setup (like irishboys setup/420magazine.com) so I don't know if those require lots of power or not as I just purchased them. Now as for other options I don't hhave much as I plan to keep the grow room hidden from visitors so I need a way to regulate the smell as well as the heat, the only other spot I have is a closet in my bedroom which is 6ft wide 9ft tall and 34inches deep. I'm thinking if maybe I could grow in the closet and run tubing thru the closet ceiling to vent the heat and smell? Sound like a better plan than the attic? Aggain thanks guys for all your help!

attic will work if you have attic windows or a way to get fresh cool air in and ventalate heavy also an a/c unit would probably be required and a inclosed smaller sealed section in the attic is easier to contral the temp. Exhaust hot air from the top of the room and bring in cool air from outside. It is difficult... but its not impossible. imo sheds get just as hot as attics...got both
