asf2j's mini-fridge grow done right.

Finally, finally got home from school for the summer and ready to get my grow on.

first things first, this is a stealth/micro grow. not really even expecting 1 full gram. so no hatin' please.

ive got 1 VERY small female, she's been in 12/12 since birth at about 2 weeks old. too afraid to put nutes on her yet. (you may be skeptical, i pulled out the pocket microscope, shes got the hairs at the node, and is developing resin on the newest leaf sets.) but the hairs are the giveaway really.

ive also got two sprouts that popped the soil about a week ago. leaving them outside for the more intense sunlight until they have enough foliage to sex those two.

im using miracle grow ph balanced/moisture controlled soil, botanicare pro bloom organic nutes, fox farm compost tea, and a hormone/vitamin enhancer called super thrive.

the grow box is my mini fridge, 5 cfls, 3 6500k and 2 2700k, about 200 watts.

for ventilation ive got two 85 cubic feet/min pc fans(a little over kill for this box

a buddy just came over with the drill and we are going to mount the intake and exhaust fans, look for pics of the box here in about 2 hours, the plants are sleeping, you'll get to see them tomorrow.

alright, so i lied about the pictures. we just got done mounting and sealing the intake and exhaust. drilling through the metal and ripping out the insulation was pretty rough. my buddy got a nice gash on his finger.

eff' it. pictures tomorrow. im tired.

but i will say... this is one legit stealth grow box.

labor intensive to say the least. if you are going to do a mini fridge grow, you cant skimp on exhaust and intake. the insulation inside the fridge keeps the heat in like no other.

here is my set up...
1. exhaust up top, intake down low
2. better view of all six lights
3. STEALTH like no other
4. botanicare pure blend pro
5. superthrive vitamins and hormones
6. water de-chlorinator
7. general hydroponics ph kit
8. its a girl! dont think you can see the hais in that pic, camera is shit, wont macro focus well
on that last pic... yes the leaves closest to the ground are completely yellow now. got any intelligent suggestions?

nutes are at 1/4 of suggested dose.
nute solution has superthrive at 1/8 dose
solution ph is 6.1
average temp 88f
the fans are always running.

why is my baby girl yellowing?

Nice looking setup but not a lot of verticle room. You should have mounted the lights on some chains. Black/White Mylar would have been your friend too to make it sanitary/clean/sealed.

What are you going to be doing about odors?

im in the process of a diy carbon scrubber that attaches onto the back of the exhaust fan, ive got an ionic breeze ozone purifier, and if push comes to shove, a gallon jug of febreeze and a handful of glade pluggins.

that exhaust fan is wicked powerful and im sure with the right activated carbon that alone should do it.

gonna get some mylar after my next paycheck, how much do you think ill have to spend on mylar for this tiny little thing. its about 2.5 by 3 by 2.5 feet

the vert isnt really a big problem, im going to lst like there is no tomorrow when the time comes and i might top the other two sprouts ive got going outdoors in pots.

you think ive got the smell basis covered? kind of worried about that.

its about 2 feet of vertical, that tray comes out, ive seen some pretty impressive pc case grows with less space than i have.

judging by the sticky in the plant hospital thread, im gonna have to say the yellowing leaf tissue with green veins is iron deficiency. what the best way to get iron back in there??? is there a nute additive or something to boost iron?

i cant tell if its deficiency or burn at this point. added nutes yesterday thinking that the yellowing was from a deficiency of some kind. when i woke the plant up this morning, i can see its just getting worse.

ill just try pure water for a couple of days to get some flushing going on, there hasnt been new growth in the last 4 days.

oh well. its a first grow for a reason i guess. growing is a lot harder than knowing biology, that is for sure.

yo stealthpanda thanks for that, ill remember it for the next attempt.

i did alot of reading last night about soils, and it turns out the miraclegro soil i had already contained nutrients at too high of a concentration for the seedslings.

woke up this morning and the entire plant was yellow and brown.

guess its back to germination...

i know its pointless that i keep updating this thing, seeing as how my only plants have already died less than two weeks out.

but i feel that as long as i have a thread i should help the 1st time growers and noobs out there by sharing my experience.

the reasons for which my plants died are a set of compiled factors.
first of all if you are going to use miracle grow soil(which has a time released nute system already present) you should really start off with rockwool, and dont put the plant in the soil until it has a fully developed root system, the seedling stage last longer than most people think, and in this stage cannabis is more susceptible to nute burn.

also i didnt ph my water until the last two waterings- mistake number two.

my next biggest mistake was forcing a flowering schedule with only two weeks of growth, i dont think the seedling had the energy built up to withstand the initial stress that comes with the change in photo period.

oh well.

at least now i know some stress test boundaries for the future.

going to get some rockwool tomorrow morning and then restart the germination process with some decently dank bagseed.

hey man i just read ur mini grow and dont worry, ur gona be fine. at least u hadnt grown ur plants for 2 months with seeds brought bak from amsterdam and THEN had them die. ur on the right track. u hav ur research and u hav good ideas, just keep reading and trust me there is still a lot more to learn. point is though, ur ready for a grow. u made a little mistake and it fucked u up but its no biggie.
p.s. heres a little tip....i dont know what the soil ph was but since the solution was 6.1, u mite want to try to bring that up to approx 6.8 because otherwise the plant cant absorb all the nutrients it needs and they end up building up in the soil which leads to the plant not being able to absorb some of the nutrients it needs. and try using exclusively daylight cfls for veg...they stay at cooler temps and the plants react better to those during that stage...my little experiment showed me that they will lean towards the daylight cfl wen u put one of each on each side. then once ur plant has an adequate root system and u flower, use the combo of the two with more soft white than daylight just as u had done and ull get great results.
best of luck my friend.

peace,
nomad
