Truthfully you should put the whole hydro grow on hold,get some good dirt & take it slow,plant 4 or 6 females & take them all the way through harvest,get familiar with your equipment,get familiar with what healthy & sick plants look like,get familiar with watering & how to use ferts.
Im sure some of the hydro guys will freak out at me saying put the hydro on hold but i firmly believe that,with soil you have very little to worry about,if there is a problem its either light,water,ph or nutes and none of these problems will kill your grow in a day or two.
Another thing to think about,every peice of equipment you own should be made to do a dry run before its put into the grow op,every light should be tested for light dispersement & heat,then after putting any light in your room you should measure with a thermometer the temp at the canopy surface every hour, until your positive that durring the course of the day the temp isnt going to climb up on you.
Your first grow your going to make one hell of a mess of things,it cant be helped but what you can do is to simplify everything, that way when you do fuk up the problems are easier to find & correct.

I got a 8'X4'x7' tent, 3x3 ebb & flow table w/40g res and pump, a TON of rockwool and hydroton (like enough for 25 grows!!), 24 slotted plastic planters, 400w ballast, reflector, hanger set, and MH & HID bulbs, a germination station, 2 liters of each nutrient I need (grow, micro & bloom), 1 liter of worm castings, a bottle of PH down, a TDS meter, 2 analog timers, a squirrel cage exhaust fan w/flanges and a carbon filter for $1400 bucks. I think you may have spent a bit much, but I don't know.
I will say this about the lights...I moved my babies (3 of them) from fluoros to MH a few days ago. My fluoros were 3" above teh tops of the plants. I set the MH at 9" above the tops (where I could not feel any heat on my hand) and two hours later my plants showed heat stress. I moved the light to 19" above the tops, and this problem reversed itself. So....move your lights up is my advice...I am a nube, but am learning alot here and in many books and other forums. peace!

All you new members need to cool it and read some stuff your self instead of writing negative posts. Especially villin look at the post dates. Pimp is cool...he had trouble in the begining just like most of us, but he has it under control now I'm sure like email said. Just don't come here and be negative...if I see someone has bashed another member in some random post, I am way less likely to give any advice when they have a problem. I duno, just food for thought, not trying to start anything.
Oh one more....How do some of these new members have close to a thousand posts?!!! I get on here at work nearly every day!

Thanks Email and Shenagen. Yes this post was when I was first learning. I was given a list of things I "had" to get. Turns out the advisor had never grown anything either. Funny how fat people can always tell you how to lose weight, LOL (metaphor only; I'm not busting on overweight people). After I lost all my plants in the hydro grow (thanks for nothing Stealth Hydro!) I replanted using a custom blended soil mix. I started 4 plants (Big Bud) in 6" rockwool cubes too. Two of the RW plants turned out to be male but the other two grew to beautiful maturity and turned out to be great smoke. The 6 soil grown ones (Blueberry) were all female. I posted a smoke report on the blueberry. I took two hits the first time, just to see if it was as wicked as reported. It was so smooth I couldn't hardly believe I had actually inhaled any smoke until I saw what I blew out. The high was very relaxing, cerebral, easy, creeped up on me. What I didn't report was what happened the next night, I took (best I remember) 5 tokes. About 45 minutes later I was puking my guts out. You don't NEED a lot of the good stuff! Be forewarned.

I know it's weird; it is supposed to be an anti-emitic but it's really good stuff or hash sometimes it just makes me very sick on my stomach. The only thing I was drinking was probably tea. I think I made every noob mistake anyone could make. I could have done this grow for about $700. Oh well... hindsight is 20/20

Glad to hear you panned everything out potpimp!
I read the first few pages and my chin almost hit the keyboard. I've spent weeks reading before I planted bagseed for the first time. No joke. I read until my eyes were dry and my head hurt.
Haha, I've made so many of my friends puke from smoking. I've always gotten the hook-up on the hardest to find stuff.. I don't know why, but I always find those people. When I toke with my friends and they start turning green I hand them the pipe.. LOL!
Good times.
But yea, sometimes the best way to learn is from your own mistakes.. they really stick out in your mind.. most times they are the most costly.
Looking forward to some new op's and outcomes.. I'm very interested to see what new and creative ideas you have to bring to the table.
