i dont know what to think, i dont know what i would think if my wife was blazing up well she was pregnant... i am very pro cannabis but i know i would not blow a fat toke in a little babys face when they were in there crib.... so i dont think i would want my wife smoking during the pregnancy, but when she was delivering i would rather her smoking some nice dank organic bud, or even some edibles, rather than them sticking that big ass needle in her spine (epidural)... polluting my baby with synthetic pharmacuetical grade heroin!

here check this out if you think woman should not be aloud to have the rite to get blazed well delivering a baby!

Side effects

In addition to blocking the nerves which carry pain, local anaesthetic drugs in the epidural space will block other types of nerves as well, in a dose-dependent manner. Depending on the drug and dose used, the effects may last only a few minutes or up to several hours. Epidural typically involves using the opiates fentanyl or sufentanil, with bupivacaine, Fentanyl is a powerful opiate with a potency and side effects 80X that of morphine. Sufentanil is another opiate, 5 to 10Xs more potent than Fentanyl. Bupivacaine is markedly toxic, causing excitation: nervousness, tingling around the mouth, tinnitus, tremor, dizziness, blurred vision, or seizures, followed by depression: drowsiness, loss of consciousness, respiratory depression and apnea. Bupivacaine has caused several deaths by cardiac arrest when epidural anesthetic has been accidentally inserted into vein instead of epidural space in the spine. Epidural correctly administered results in three main effects:

Aspartame is ONLY in diet soda. I do not drink or allow my kids to drink diet soda! Aspatame is a poison. Normal soda is FINE unless you drink massive amounts, which I ALSO do not do nor allow my kids to do. If a woman is preggo and has a craving for a pepsi, again, I say, NO MAN has the right to tell me I can't. After you have carried, given birth to and nursed a baby, THEN tell me I can't have fast food or a soda for a year and a half!!
Aspartame was also only one of the reasons I wrote about my issues with soda - the other was high fructose corn syrup. There are other reasons but I'll get more into depth if you wish to continue the discussion.

I never said I'd force my...sorry, the hypothetical wife to do this or that. I would not marry a woman who did not properly take care of her body, health and mind. If I were to have a baby with the hypothetical wife, she would not want to drink soda or eat fast food for her own sake and the sake of the child - AND the sake of me, her husband (is it okay to say her husband?).

That's fine that you enjoy fast food and soda and believe it is okay for your children to enjoy it. I don't give two shits. That's your decision and your belief and YOUR family. I was posting my opinion on the original question and my choice in that hypothetical situation.

No man will ever have a child (besides a few very special cases). In my opinion, a child is created and brought to the world by a party of two. I believe both parties have a say but no one has the right to force one to do something. If it was a planned pregnancy, all of these issues would be discussed before hand - even before marriage.

Once again, I'll start by using quotes then if you want to respond and continue the debate I will give more detailed information.

Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, Revised Second Edition
"The allergenicity of penicillin in the general population is thought to be at least ten percent. Nearly 25 percent of these individuals will display hives, angioedema, or anaphylaxis upon ingestion of penicillin…. hives and anaphylactic symptoms have been traced to penicillin in milk, soft drinks, and frozen dinners."

"Many general dietary factors have been suggested as a cause of osteoporosis, including: low calcium-high phosphorus intake, high-protein diet, high-acid-ash diet, high salt intake, and trace mineral deficiencies. It appears that increased soft drink consumption is a major factor that contributes to osteoporosis. A deficiency of vitamin K leads to impaired mineralization of bone. Boron deficiency may contribute greatly to osteoporosis as well as to menopausal symptoms."

"Soft drinks have long been suspected of leading to lower calcium levels and higher phosphate levels in the blood. When phosphate levels are high and calcium levels are low, calcium is pulled out of the bones. The phosphate content of soft drinks like Coca -Cola and Pepsi is very high, and they contain virtually no calcium."

"The United States ranks first among countries in soft drink consumption. The per-capita consumption of soft drinks is in excess of 150 quarts per year, or about three quarts per week."

"Soft drink consumption in children poses a significant risk factor for impaired calcification of growing bones."

"Of the fifty-seven children who had low blood calcium levels, thirty-eight (66.7 percent) drank more than four bottles (12 to 16 ounces per bottle) of soft drinks per week, but only forty-eight (28 percent) of the 171 children with normal serum calcium levels consumed as much soft drink … These results more than support the contention that soft drink consumption leads to lower calcium levels in children. This situation that ultimately leads to poor bone mineralization, which explains the greater risk of broken bones in children who consume soft drinks."

"Soft drink consumption may be a major factor for osteoporosis as they are high in phosphates but contain virtually no calcium. This leads to lower calcium levels and higher phosphate levels in the blood. The United States ranks first among countries for soft drink consumption with a per capita consumption of approximately 15 ounces a day."

"In an interesting experiment the sugar from one soft drink was able to damage the white blood cells' ability to ingest and kill gonococcal bacteria for seven hours."

"Soft drinks are the single greatest source of caffeine in children's diets; a 12-ounce can of cola contains about 45 milligrams but the amounts in more potent soft drinks can exceed 100 milligrams— a level approaching that found in coffee."

"Soft drinks have replaced milk in the diets of many American children as well as adults. School purchases reflect such trends. From 1985 to 1997, school districts decreased the amounts of milk they bought by nearly 30% and increased their purchases of carbonated sodas."

"The relationship between soft drink consumption and body weight is so strong that researchers calculate that for each additional soda consumed, the risk of obesity increases 1.6 times."

"Adolescents who consume soft drinks display a risk of bone fractures three to four-fold higher than those who do not."

"Sugar and acid in soft drinks so easily dissolve tooth enamel."

"Americans drink 13.15 billion gallons of carbonated drinks every year."

The doctor speaking in these dialogs is, Dr. McCay, the nutritionist at the Naval Medical Research Institute.

"I was amazed to learn," he testified, "that the beverage contained substantial amounts of phosphoric acid. . . . At the Naval Medical Research Institute, we put human teeth in a cola beverage and found they softened and started to dissolve within a short period… The acidity of cola beverages ... is about the same as vinegar. The sugar content masks the acidity, and children little realize they are drinking this strange mixture of phosphoric acid, sugar, caffeine, coloring, and flavoring matter."

"One liter of an aspartame-sweetened beverage can produce about fifty-six milligrams of methanol. When several of these beverages are consumed in a short period of time (one day, perhaps), as much as two hundred fifty milligrams of methanol are dumped into the bloodstream, or thirty-two times the EPA limit."

"What may happen, in the face of day-to-day, continuously high levels of sodium in the diet and the bloodstream, is that we experience a type of acute hypernatremia—not enough to kill us or cause the myelin sheath to lose its integrity, but enough to keep our sodium potassium pump slightly dysregulated and throw off the electrical system of the brain…. Americans drink soft drinks that are often loaded with more sodium and which further unbalance the mineral stores."

"A joint study by Harvard University and Boston Children's Hospital researchers in February 2001 concluded that such excess liquid calories inhibited the ability of older children to compensate at mealtime, leading to caloric imbalance and, in time, obesity."

"One extra soft drink a day gave a child a 60 percent greater chance of becoming obese. One could even link specific amounts of soda to specific amounts of weight gain. Each daily drink added .18 points to a child's body mass index (BMI). This, the researchers noted, was regardless of what else they ate or how much they exercised. "Consumption of sugar [high fructose corn syrup]-sweetened drinks," they concluded, "is associated with obesity in children."

"Saccharin is a 100-year-old non-nutritive, non-caloric sweetening agent… its use has exploded over the last twenty years as a staple of the diet food and drink craze. Its major current consumption is in diet pop by teenagers, and not by diabetics and the obese. The public now firmly believes that foods containing saccharin are effective in weight control, and has been persuaded by the soft drink industry (through the Calorie Control Council) that these benefits outweigh any possible health risks."

"More than a dozen animal tests over the last thirty years have demonstrated the carcinogenic effects of saccharin in the bladder and other sites, particularly female reproductive organs, and in some instances at doses as low as the equivalent of one to two bottles of diet pop daily."

"The public board of inquiry concluded that experimental data "’…do not rule out an oncogenic effect of aspartame, and that, to the contrary, they appear to suggest the possibility that aspartame, at least when administered in the 'huge' quantities employed in the studies, may contribute to the development of brain tumors.’" Until these controversial findings on brain cancer in experimental animals have been resolved, use this product sparingly, if at all."

"PET bottling and packaging: Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is used extensively in soft drink containers. PET bottles can release small amounts of dimethyl terephthalate into foods and beverages. Although the National Cancer Institute claims that dimethyl terephthalate is noncarcinogenic, these results have been questioned. Some experts believe this compound to be carcinogenic."

"Aspartame contains methyl or wood alcohol, which can affect fetal brain development."

"Twenty-one percent of the sugar in the American diet comes from soft drinks! That's more than just an unhealthy consumption of empty calories. It is a dangerous overload of caffeine and potentially hazardous, nutrient-depleting additives."

"Soft drinks contain large amounts of phosphorus, which can throw off the body's calcium/phosphorus ratio (twice as much calcium as phosphorus), decreasing calcium as well as reducing your body's ability to use it."

"For anyone over age 40, soft drinks can be especially hazardous because the kidneys are less able to excrete excess phosphorus, causing depletion of vital calcium."

"Heavy soft drink consumption can interfere with your body's metabolization of iron and diminish nerve impulse transmission."

"Cola drinks can interact adversely with antacids, possibly causing constipation, calcium loss, hypertension, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and kidney damage."
"Soft drinks can decrease the antibacterial action of penicillin and ampicillin."

"Diet sodas that are low in calories are high in sodium. Too much salt in the diet may cause more calcium to be excreted in the urine and increase the risk of osteoporosis."

"Excessive consumption of soft drinks, which are high in phosphorus, can also deplete you of calcium and increase your chances of osteoporosis."

"Phosphorus is found in most foods but soda pops, diet pops… contain especially high amounts. The ideal dietary phosphorus-calcium ratio is about 1:1. The ratio in the average American diet is often greater than 2:1 and sometimes even 4:1 or 5:1. At those levels, excess calcium is removed from bone and eliminated, blood levels are reduced, and there is bone demineralization. A diet high in phosphorus and low in calcium has been shown to cause bone loss and increase tissue calcification."

"Tooth loss, periodontal disease, and gingivitis can be problems, especially with a high phosphorus intake, particularly from soft drinks. All kinds of bone problems can occur with prolonged calcium deficiency, which causes a decrease in bone mass. Rickets in children, osteomalacia (decreased bone calcium) in adults, and osteoporosis (porous and fragile bones) can occur when calcium is withdrawn from bones faster than it is deposited. Fractures are more common with osteoporosis—almost eight million yearly in the United States are related to this prevalent nutritional deficiency disease"

"High dietary phosphorus, as is found in a diet with meats, soft drinks, and other convenience foods, can readily affect calcium metabolism. Potential calcium deficiency symptoms may be more likely when the phosphorus intake is very high. A low calcium-to-phosphorus ratio in the diet increases the incidence of hypertension and the risk of colon-rectal cancer."

If you don't want to talk about soda but rather about fast food, we can change the topic to that also. If you want to have an in depth debate on the topic, we can start a new thread and move on from there.

EDIT: I agree with timmyc420. I would rather my...I'm sorry, the wife to have marijuana rather than a chemical concoction for giving birth. If it were possible in the situation, I would rather have my...I mean the wife to go through with it naturally.

First of all, you seem to think my family and I are fast food junkies. In fact, my kids are allowed fast food and soda only about once a month. Secondly, I cook our meals every night, from scratch. Not boxed or frozen. have you ever heard the phase "Everthing in moderation."? My point was you seem to think a pregnant woman should be fricking quarintined and fed rations, only those you approve of, for nine months! You set me off because you come off as real male chauvinist pig and know it all.

My point was you seem to think a pregnant woman should be fricking quarintined and fed rations, only those you approve of, for nine months! First of all, I didn't make any assumption about your family. All I was saying is that it's perfectly fine for you and your family to enjoy fast food and soda. I didn't specify quantity whatsoever, nor do I care how much you guys have it. Once a month is fine, three times a month is fine, once a week is fine, everyday is fine, once a year is fine - I don't care. That's your business and you decide what's best for your family.

Second, I don't care how you cook your meals for your family. I'm sure you're a great cook, especially since you're also a pothead like the rest of us - but I still don't give a shit. I'm sure you try to cook the best meals you can for your family and you're a hard working mother - I still don't give a shit. This has nothing to do with your family. I was writing my opinion on the original question and you started off on some feminist rant and how I'm trying to control women and how I wouldn't understand what pregnancy is like. Then started talking about soda, so I replied on the subject.

I never said pregnant women should be quarantined and fed rations for the duration of the pregnancy. If you read my posts, you'd see that nowhere do I even come close to saying something like that. Just because I said "my woman" doesn't mean I'm a "chauvinist pig" - it would (not saying it does but would) seem more that you are the one easily offended by text. She would be my woman but I would be just as much her man because we would be a loving couple - once again this is all hypothetical since I was posting a reply to the original question.

Where do I come off as a chauvinist pig and know it all in my posts? I said I would like to be with a woman who knows how to take care of her body and if she did care for her health, we would both agree that junk food, soda, vaccinations and other externalities would be harmful prior and during the duration of her pregnancy. I also stated that I would also refrain from any kind of substances that would be detrimental to my health prior to the impregnation.

Once again, for the fourth time, I'll reiterate:

I was posting my opinion to the original question. My life choice for my family would be to keep as much externalities out of the picture for bringing our (me and the wife) to the world. I'd like our child to be raised in as much of a natural environment as possible.

Now if you want to take those comments further with your imagination and think this means I would have my wife locked up in bondage in my basement to release my offspring when I please and please me when I please...then I don't know how to respond. A child is brought to this world through two consenting adults and for me we would be married. Like I said earlier, I would marry a woman, amongst other reasons, who cares for her own body and health. If both of us are health conscious people, we'd both agree that fast food, soda, toxins and other foreign substances would not be the greatest choice for the child - especially during delicate times like pregnancy.

With my last baby, my morning sickness was so bad I wound up in the hospital from dehydration and they put me on a subcutaneous odansitron pump to control the vomiting. I would have much preferred some good pot, but even then I refrained because of my lack of knowledge of the effects it would have on my baby.

I was one of the lucky few to escape the public school system with my sanity and an ability to critically think. I lay a lot of thanks on my mother who is a critical thinker. Public education in this country is a fucking joke. It's more like an assembly line than a place of learning.
Yupp. They train and indoctrinate us so we can grow up to be "good" slaves.
They teach you to work for money in public school systems, not to make money work for you.
Which is why most are in debt and can barely make it. Hell, I'm barely making it.
No one taught me to make money work for me, instead of working for money.

That's why children who go to private schools, or are homeschooled, are far better off
than children who attend public schools.

I forget which user mentioned this, but he told me he home schooled his children, and they went to college
at the age of 15.

And thats the age we should all be going to college. I'm not sure how many people know that school only
used to go up to 8th grade. So around 14-15 yrs of age was when they finished school and went out into
the world.

I recommend reading "The Underground History of American Education" to learn more on the public fool system.
The author was a teacher for 30 years.

Your kids are going to be anti social... that's not very healthy. I would rather my kid be a zombie then an anti social serial killer living with 2 cats. AM JOKING lol do what you want with your kids :)
Will do. ;)

well i'm replying!!! lol, i posted a vaccinations thread in the politics forum before but it wasn't too popular..at least not as much as the new world order thread or global warming thread:
https://www.rollitup.org/politics/377099-vaccinations-swine-flu.html

agreed...the public school system in the US is horrible..but so is the "higher learning"..american colleges and universities are horrible.

anyway back on topic...even if some research studies proved that marijuana was not harmful or even good for a baby in womb..i still wouldn't want my woman to smoke.
We need to seriously start our own education system. I feel that's the only way for society to move forward.

When reading the book "The Underground History of American Education" he asked a question that really made
me think. "The government spends about $200,000 to put a single child through school (k-12). Now ask yourself, why is the
government investing that much money into 'educating' our children?" Or some question along that line....

and It really made me think.... Why is the government spending so much money to "school" our children?

To be honest, reading the book made me fear putting my kids in public school. He pointed out that we send our children
to government funded schools, to be taught by people we don't even know, whom we also have no back-round information
on.

Why would you want to take your child's childhood away from them. Just because you don't agree with the system doesn't mean to cast your kid from society. Your child deserves to go to there junior high school dance, have there first kiss in the bleachers... going to there prom, homecomings and throwing there graduating hats in the air. Public school is not all about higher learning.. it's about interacting, socializing, physical freedom ... it's the best years of a kids life. I actually wish I can do it all over again and wouldn't change a thing.. those were the best years of my life. Why take that away from them. sorry my 2cents Pce.
you already replied with your 2 cents, begging for an argument? I cant stand this logic..
public schools dont give a fuck about your childs individuality,
critical thinking skills,
ability to study and question authority,
focused education on subjects of greater interest to your child (dont tell me bout your highschool photoshop class),

public education is a cheap, bias, and brief overview of basic tasks and in no way should be considered better than homeschool options (given proper at home teaching ethics)
homeschools have communities,
field trips,
dances,
focused advanced education that can go in any direction the parent and child wish,
better FOOD!,

socializing.. when are you allowed to talk in class, voice your opinion, challenge your teachers, or you all about that 5 mins inbetween class as your running to hang with your puppy love for a quick smooch (feeling rebellious?)
physical freedom?? really? Open group showers, weird gym teachers, cant wear this or that.. anger is penalized, aggression discouraged unless rival sports (some dont even like that), I think you mean to run around an be promiscuous tbh

On topic: until proven safe, why would you risk the mental / physical development of your child?

don't want to butt in,

but Ms. Botwin, it seems you're taking the other poster's opinions
as telling you what YOU should do.

he's not doing that. Simply stating his opinions, and you're getting your panties in a bunch saying

"Well I don't do that! I cook from scratch!!!........ NO MAN has the right to.....blah blah blah"

He's NOT telling you what to do. Just simply stating his opinions. It doesn't mean that he's trying to impose
his beliefs on you either, which is what it seems you're thinking.

Just saying....

generally i'd say smoking at all is unhealthy for mother and baby, but i smoked a bit of bud on a regular basis throughout my pregnancy (didn't know i was preggers) and it hasn't had any discernible effect on my daughter, or at least not that we've noticed yet. like most things i'd say it's ok in moderation but if i took issue it would be with the smoking aspect of it, not the bud aspect

My mom smoked while she was pregnant with me and I was born incredibly healthy with better basic motor skills than most other babies. Probably wasn't the weed though. I would say just keep it moderate. It would probably help with morning sickness too.

good question..never thought about it.

to be honest, if it was my woman pregnant..i say no. i wouldn't want her to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, smoke weed, eat fast food, drink carbonated drinks like coke pepsi sprite...

idk if that's being hypocritical but thats the way i feel.
I agree 100% the only thing I do on that list is smoke weed. And I'm not even pregnant! Alcohol, cigarettes, fast food, and soda are among the worst things you can put into your body. And who wants to get with a 300 lbs alcoholic with 100 different illnesses. No one that's who.

And no smoking while the bun is in the oven. Wouldn't want to burn it. logic FTW!
