Are they nearly ready or not?

Hi everyone,
I'm on day 51 of a 56 to 63 day flowering time strain of Gelato. I've checked the trichs with a loupe, and can see that they are about 60% cloudy. But there's still a lot of white pistils, they are starting to curl but not enough browning going on yet I don't think? I was planning on using Ripen for 2 weeks because I need to finish ASAP, or do you think they will finish in 2 weeks on their own without Ripen? I'm a first time grower so I'm not sure just by looking at them how far off they are from Harvest. Any info much appreciated202004221815765383271600197.jpg202004215279934509055157676.jpg

I'm gonna use the Ripen,
Your pistols are all white, they need to turn color and recede into the bud. That's when you start to think about harvest. They bulk up the most at the end.

Yep I know , I'm gonna have to use the Ripen then to speed it up.

Looks like you could be up to 2 weeks out; don't know if Ripen is going to take two weeks off / speed up your plant's metabolism by 2 weeks but I'm guessing it won't really. You need the space ASAP?

I don't know why you think Ripen is going to speed anything up. It's just phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and sulfur. Oh and it has potassium chloride which means the dreaded chlorine many people are so worried about. Ripen isn't for speeding things up.

From General Hydroponics website.

"Ripen® 0.5-7-6 promotes increased and abundant flowering with greater oil and fragrance production. It is highly concentrated to provide macronutrients that are primarily responsible for flower and fruit growth. "

That doesn't sound like a description of a product designed to speed things up. Before you go dumping stuff on your plants you should know what's in it and what it's for. They may call it Ripen but that doesn't mean it's for making plants finish faster.

Those plants are weeks away from being done. It doesn't matter if someone said it was a 56 - 63 day strain. They'll finish when they finish. Ripen isn't going to do anything to make them finish faster.

I just chopped mine down at day 50. It’s a 61 day strain. Had 75% cloudy, 25% amber. Still had some white hairs but that doesn’t mean much to me, as trich production is how I judge when my girls are done to my preference. If I let them go longer, the buds will produce a couch lock type of high, which is what I didn’t want. I want an active high, which is why I chopped when I did. They wouldn’t have really fattened up too much more in the last week or so, so an early cut didn’t affect yield. Seller flower dates are merely a guideline, not set in stone. So I say the chop date is really up to the grower, not the seller.

It actually says that Ripen is to be used when you need to save a crop

The reason why I thought that was because I read this....
As a “forcing solution“, FinalPart® can be used in any circumstance where you need to control or enhance ripening, and at the end of every flowering/fruiting cycle of annual flowers and fruits to maximise yield and flavour intensity.
Outdoors, FinalPart® enables you to quickly harvest a crop before it is spoiled by cold and damp weather. Indoors, it helps you harmonise the end of the grow cycle by speeding up the ripening of the slowest plants or varieties. And in case of a severe infestation of fungi or insects, it can allow you to accelerate the natural cycle and recover something out of a crop that would otherwise be completely lost. I don't have those issues but I do need to finish asap, do you think I should stop using it? I only used it yesterday for the first time. And if you don't mind me asking, what should I use if not that? Previously I was just using Canna A+B and Canna Boost, should I stick with that? Thanks!

Or you could use it AND wait for it to finish. Either way I predict an early chop.

Learning to stop counting days and wait for the plant to finish seems to be the hardest part for people.

This is solely for me to smoke, I'm Not selling it, no one else I know smokes it, it was just a case of having split with my ex, he left cuts here and I thought I'd give it a go and got this far. So as far as yield goes, that's not my main priority, I just want it to be a nice smoke, and I personally like the couchlock effect lol. Thanks

At least 2-3 weeks, maybe longer.

My last grow was my first try using Canna Coco A + B nutrients (Coco/perlite grow). I really liked the nutrient line and I also decided to stay away from "flower boosters" like GH Koolbloom, MOAB etc. I used Canna A & B plus Canna Boost and had my best grow and harvest to date (I've only
grown for 5 years).

My two cents is to keep doing what your doing, the plants look excellent. As for harvest time, I think you are a few weeks from harvest, they are about half done IMO. Those white pistils will turn brown and shrivel into the buds. You'll see the calyxes swell and the colas will get heavy and start leaning from the weight. If there is any way you can wait a few weeks I think you'll be happy that you did. Post updates every few days and ask for opinions on readiness. Good luck!

If you want that couch-lock effect then you will have to wait longer than normal for the majority of the trichomes to turn amber vs cloudy. Good luck

I was referring to the seller date as the producer of the seed/clone. Not that you were gonna sell it. But it’s cool that the cuts turned out good. If couch lock is what you’re after, let it go to the end, that is if you have a microscope to check the trichs.

I have a 200x USB microscope, but rarely use it anymore. Lately I've just been judging by how the buds look overall.

If I were able to judge if my plants were done by visually inspecting them I consider that an accomplishment because I’m already blind as a bat. But if you can pull it, that’s great.

I don't take many pics, but this one was about ready. I think I gave her another week after this pic was taken before I harvested, but it was over a year ago, so my memory's a little foggy, lol.

This one still needed another couple weeks to really fatten up. I think I gave it 2 more weeks after this pic was taken.

The space no, but a gas check yes, it needs to be done by law apparently regard
you want good quality smoke you have to wait.
I know bit I'm in a situation that's out of my control, but I guess I'll have to just figure it out somehow.
