Are the 25-35s screwed?

I am currently 29 about to turn 30 at the end of this year. Myself as well as 90% of my colleagues rent, have no benefits, no pension and no savings. I was hoping by 30 to be debt free, but now I am looking at 40.

I still want to buy a house, have savings and a pension, but it seems impossible considering my line of work is all contract and I dont have the money to switch professions.

The thing is, everyone I work with is in the exact same boat and some older than I am. So are we all screwed when we get older? Am I doomed to greet people at walmart and live in a small apartment my whole life?

Yes...even people with better jobs arn't getting raises and are just getting fucked more and more...only way to survive with our govt with a low income is to have kids...get as many tax breaks as possible :D

we are in the same boat but luckily my wife has a great job with benefits and enough take home pay that when i am out of work, she can foot the rest if need be. but i worry for the younger generation, i have nieces and nephews that are screwed if someone dosent come in and help them. Save all your money and screw college, get the best education you can by living abroad. Nothing gives an education like living it. you can have all the book smarts in the world but without the street smarts it dosent matter.

your fate is in your own hands step away from the computer quit bitchn and go make some money
Easier said then done. If I walk away from my current job and try to study for a new career, I will end up thousands more in debt and be working on the side for minimum wage...

It is my fault for this career path, but I make $17/hr, while my bosses make my yearly income in a month. And they work me like a dog, but what are my alternatives?

The best thing to do is learn a trade. I'm a machinist and make a high 5 figure salary. The repair and maintainance industry is always looking for qualified people.

well I'm 32 but I can't complain.
making 80k at work
sitting on
130k home lone
45k in school debt
5k in Credit cards
No car note....whooohooo
maaaaybe 5k in 401k monies
oh ya and 7k in hospital bills from getting stictches un-insured recently.

45k in school debt is the key hear....ya its alot of money but Id only be making 20k without it. so you do the math.....spend 45k to make an additional 60k/y ya its a must.
Pro-tip - engineering, software and otherwise is about the only thing worth going to school for these days.

Total debt: approx $187K - and yet most days I feel freaking RICH lol.
Not living paycheck to paycheck....priceless.

Get you're ass in school and learn to do something usefull and the money will follow. Get you're ass in school and get a bs degree in nonsense and the money will run away from you.

If Your Income to debt ratio is bad and your credit score is shit than yea your pretty screwed,,,Because even if you could afford a house payment etc,,,The bank's will not finance you,,,even tho' intrest rates's are sooo low. My credit is shot,,,at least I can keep up with all my bill's,,,I have no chance in hell to refinance from a 6% rate to whatever it is now and basically cut my house payment in half.,,,To be able to spend more money and help the economy instead of Fucking "Big Bank's"...Your not screwed you just got to get your finances straight which take's time.

use your head and make it happen. sounds like you don't have anything to tie you down, so move in necessary. decide how you want to make money and then make that happen. it gets ALOT harder when you have a family.

Move to Willingston, ND. Apparently they found a little bit of oil there. Ronald says he'll pay 15 bucks if you work at his burger shack....no shit. Depending on what your skills are, you might be worth 40k+ a year to someone there. :)

Yes. In order for someone to have a little better retirement income you would have had to start working at the youngest age possible but also have a savings account that gives you high interest every month cut your spending even look at producing your own power via solar , wind and such that you don't have to spend alot of money just to get power out of it every month.

When going wind and or solar you need a good battery bank and hardware. This can cost you a lot at the start but out weigh on how much money you can save every month producing your own power and you'll see the system pay for its self.

Here's a little math if you go solar and build your own panels.
Say a 10w solar panel cost you around $80 but that also includes pretty much every thing you need for a basic 10w panel. that includes solar cells, blocking diodes, tabbing wire, bus wire, encapsulation stuff glass, metal and solder to make it.

Yes I know that is alot but you figure out your not gonna have to buy more glass every new 10w panel you make, or tabbing wire and bus wire till you run out and the diodes depending how many you get in a pack (I can get 4 in a pack) till those run out and the soldering wire shouldn't run our for a good amount of panels that you make.

After your first panel you build you could only have to buy more cells.

Now do the math. You produce 10 watts of power 5 hours a day and you will make around 1,500w per month and that comes out to a cost of $0.15 per month you produce worth of power. If your not always using the power that is produced or use lower then what is produced then you still get your battery bank charged. When you wire your panels in mix of series and parallel your wattage and amp hours produced per hour will go up. Thus when you add another panel to your system with your first 10w panel you will get a little more watts or amps per hour then just 1 so you end up making more power per panel in all. If you want to get into it you could hook up your solar system to the grid (if you have the legal stuff done if there is any) then you can make money back on any over produced power or just to cut your power bill back on.

A single 10w is under 1 square foot big so in a 2 square foot area you can produce around 40w of power per hour.

All in all.
Cost for start up can be high depending what way you wanna go but the pay back is gonna be nicer on your pocket when the system starts paying for its self.

Yea I heard about that it is crazy how much they are paying people to work at mcd's. But if I was in a area that they made that big of a discovery on oil I would try and jump on that bitch.

But I am worried for all that are in that situation. It doesn't really matter for age wise cause all are screwed. I make 10.70 a hour I got benefits so I can't complain to much but they do really suck, The medical is so expencive that I couldn't put my fiance and my son on. Which really sucks. But with time I think it will get better, Atleast hopefully it will. Cause we are in one hell of a good recession right now. I have to agree with silouan though because I have a 2 year old and I have another kid due next april. Hopefully the 20th lols, but yeah the cost of food, house, bills, supplies (be diapers or wipes or clothes or anything of that nature). It sure does add up.

Those oil fields will offer everthing you need to solve every problem you listed above :) Starting pay is nearly double what you are currently being paid, cost of living is very reasonable. Dude, they are fucking paying people huge startup bonuses to cover travel and relocation expenses. They are losing money everyday because they don't have enough help.

As long as you can pass a background and piss test, it's kinda hard not to get hired there right now. I mean, how hard is flippin burgers, and it's worth 15 bucks an hour to these people? Fuck for some of you, that is more than you will make an hour for the next 10 years, so why wait?

Lol, I would never grow more than 3 at a time. As much as I am afraid of making little money, I am more afraid of going to jail.
Which is a true travesty. What sort of society do we live in where you get in trouble for having a fucking plant...

The problems you are describing are not new and are not unique to your demographic. Everyone plans on being out of debt and making a good living and having a good life. The reality is though that most of the population is strapped with debt, makes poor financial decisions, and spends more than they should.

Seriously though, start growing more weed. Once you master it and know what you are doing it will be another skill in your arsenal that you can bust out at any point. I don't plan to get super rich from growing, but I see it as either an extra income, or potential extra income for the rest of my life. If I ever get fired or something crazy happens with my job I hope I will have enough saved up to get through it, and will be able to grow during the tough times to supplement my income. Even 4 or 5 ounces a month sold to friends and coworkers can pay a lot of bills, and it's not hard to have 4-5 extra ounces each month with a not-to-big set up.

Yeah move to Williston , North Dakota. I went through there once. Did you know it can get over 60 below zero there for weeks at a time? The last time I was there it snowed 7 feet and wind chill temps were 107 below zero. People wonder why the whole state has a population less than 600,000 people. Because its too fucking cold to support life.
