Are small square footage grows a waste of time? I.e. PC grow boxs, cabinet and closet grows?

All depends on strain and what you do with them, toss a dozen seeds/clones in Solo cups on 12/12 from seed or take a single plant and lst/scrog it out for a month to fill a closet... I like 2-3 autoflowers in the bedroom closet, get 50g or so each with some basic t5s

Its definitely possible.
I use a 2x4x6 cabinet. I was running 432 watt t5. Now I'm using cob led. 200 watts at the moment and will eventually be 400 watts.
With 400 watts 10-12 ounces a run is very easy to do.
I added a 2x2 veg area and run a mini perpetual.
If you really dial it in and pull just over a gram a watt you will hit a pound.

Closet grow under COB leds. I haven't purchased weed since last March and grow more than I need.
Edit: That's 2 auto flower plants btw. Softpot in front is on a 4' shelf. Yeeeeep, auto's are just terrible.

If that's you're only grow space I would...
Get the auto's into 1 gallon pots like, yesterday. They hate transplant 90% of the time. Roots are key with auto's. If you keep those 2 alive and healthy, they'll overfill that cabinet. You'll have to do some training. Light schedule won't matter.
That's just me though.
If you'd rather go with the photo's in there, I'd keep as many in 2 liter bottles that fit and sog that box. You could always toss the auto's ina window. They won't produce a lot but they'll grow and flower.

Oh, dunno if you've seen it but in the "Indoor Growing" section there's a subsection for "stealth/cabinet growing". Probably lots of relevant stuff in there to check out.
