Are rubbermaid containers good for Outdoor grows?

hello to everyone at rollitup. Has anyone grown in rubbermaid containers? im talking about the 25 gallon or 55 gallon tote that people usually use for storage. Im planning on using them outdoors this year but my concern is since they are plastic are they going to get hot in the summer and damage the roots? i wanted to put wheels on them for mobility? Are these a good idea or should i look into smart pots or anything else? any input will be appreciated. thanks guys

Cover the totes wit something to reflect the light away eliminating some heat I was thinking of burying a couple of these at my spot

if i paint them white would that be good enough? have you ever used the smart pots

Not a good idea. I mean it would work great, but what would you do if you're walking through the woods and you see a giant rubbermaid container sitting there?

if its not your property youre growing on, no. if youre growing on your own property go for it, some of my first grows were from rubbermaid with holes cut into the bottom for drainage. they were cheaper to grab from wally world than regular pots at the time. even with a hot summer the girls did great, but it may have been the strain i was working with, it is very hardy and thrives in many conditions

thanks for the advice. im gonna be grownin in my backyard. sorry i didnt clarify.

If you want to use a big rubbermaid it helps to throw rocks or gravel in the bottom and then put your soil on top to create drainage.

Dont forget the drainage holes!

i ran them back in the long ago (rubbermaid containers) use the heavy duty ones...
trash cans also work ok as do kiddie pools...
use a drill and fill the bottom and lower sides with small holes....
i use smartpots now...and im not going back..

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm goona do one of my plants in smart pots to see what all the talk is about. Thanks
