Are my plants too close for my new light

Do you have it at the full 1000 W right now? If so, I would leave it right there a couple days and see if they get burnt. If not you could lower it maybe another 4-6 inches or so. You don’t want to be too close but also not too far away because it will make them stretch up to it.

Make sure that closet is well ventilated because that 1000 W is going to get it real hot in there.

Thank you for the advice. My teacher bought the light for me so I can experiment with him and I'm just not sure to how it functions.

So, your bulb should match the setting....If it is a 1000 watt bulb, run it on the 1000 watt setting. They aren't meant to be dimmed. And a 1000 watt bulb should probably be about 2' from the tops of those plants. at least for starters.

I'm about week 2 of flower right now. The plants have had a huge stretch already and I suspect about 5 more inches of growth. I guess I'm gonna have to move them to the garage and make a make shift grow tent.

I might clean up the bottoms a bit but for the most part I would leave them alone. If you can move the light up a bit they will be fine. You need to air cool that light. Run flexible ducting and an inline fan. I would recommend a real air cooled hood, far more efficient.

A hood like this you can literally hang 3'' from the ceiling if you have air cooling running through it.

Same, i'd clean up the bottoms a bit, let some more airflow get through
LED's would save you some height as you could run the lights pretty much ceiling height

Do the hand test. Rest the palm of your hand over that part of the plant closest to the light. If your hand feels uncomfortably warm you are too close. I use a 1000W MH bulb for my flowering room (MH cuts down on the heat) and my tops can get to 6 inches from the bulb before they start to burn.
