are light "hot start" controllers necessary?

Hi,

I'm in the process of designing my room setup. Electrician coming and I'm wondering whether I need a light "hot start" type controller to prevent the HID lights (4 of them) from losing power and then starting back up while hot without the 15 min cooldown period that is supposed to keep them safe. Do I need one of these? If I don't have one and the power goes out and then right back on are the lights going to explode/blow/die?

Thanks!

i know of the issues you talk about, but i've yet to have a power cut, and when i flick the switch on and off by accident, it certainly hasn't exploded yet :)

if ti's going to be as big as needing 4 lights then you might as well get something installed just in case, because that would be a LOT of money basking underneath them haha

Thanks for the response. Its not going to be that big of an operation, veg and flower in 3'W x 6'L trays. So not that many plants. So my lights wont break if the power goes off/right back on a few times? It will be okay?

Thanks!

i learnt through trial and error. this is actually the first time i've actually read anything on the issue (not because it doesn't exxist, just my ignorance). i knew when i was changing the time on my timer (spin the wheel around type) that when i turned it off and quickly put it back on there was no click, no hum etc, didn't know why but figured it was healthier to give it a pause before turning back on. the lights been running since june last year without a hitch, same bulb etc
