Are cobs really worth it?

Hi all, Ive been on the fence for a year now on what to buy to replace my 1k hps and can't seem to come to a final decision. I don't want to spend a ton of money and want to be able to match my typical 1k hps harvest of 1 pound. I'm considering the 400 watt vero v29 square config kit for about 800 all in shipped but it's a bit pricy for me. Also considering 4 autocobs for like 635 but it's only 220 watts. I'm interested in a citizen set up too possibly. I have to throw in the ring that u can get two mars 600 units for 560 watt draw at 460 bucks. Is it really worth paying 2-3 bucks a wattt vs 0.85 with the mars? Either way I'd save a ton compared to the 1k hps with cooling.

Mars is pretty unefficient, but I would say you need 600-700W of LED light, to replace your 1k HPS. The cheapest is DIY with CLU048, or some LED strips (EB-, F-, H-series, or some other you will find, looking these up). Otherwise did you considered to get some Quantum Boards?

I'm on the fence myself. To replace my hps setup it would cost me at least $6000, probably more. My electric bill averages $325.00 per month now for the grow. It would take a long time for the savings to pay for the initial cost. I figure it would save me about $100.00 per month. At that rate it would take me 5 years. By then they'll have some other new fangled technology. I'm going to hang out here on the fence for awhile,at least until prices drop.

well waiting a year was a good decison as they cost less than half of what they did a year ago

maybe look into other limiting factors? (heat?) You should be at least double that yield with just about any strain. some people are doing a P with a 315 CMH, so that or a 300W cob rig could both do that, and both would pretty much solve your heat issue.

If your handy and can build your own frames and do basic wiring, its about $500 to get 700W of cobs to replace a 1000. if you need it preassembled its about $800-$1000 depending on your selection

What about QBs to protect yourself from FLIR aka helicopters looking for grows?

Gov. Chickenpooper-D :dunce: and the Dems and Repubs in CO are recriminalizing pot for the little guy.

Time to go to Oregon where the state legislature voted to legalize coke, meth and heroin ( I am not kidding). :o

I am not sure it has gotten to the OR gov desk yet/

Dimming is for pussies. 700w of 45%+ efficiency will rock HPS. 800w of 50%+ efficiency will rock DE HPS.

I have 1250w of COB. 400w is 45% efficient, the rest is 56%. Do not even have a dimmer installed.

expect to pay over 1k to get a real replacement for a 1kw hps, those mars units are over hyped and not so great. I'd look into timber framework kits if you can afford them.

The United States does not care about the health and well-being of the average citizen (witness the current disaster known as healthcare reform), but it certainly DOES care about corporate profiteering and subsidizing the police state.

this is the bullshit that keeps LED a joke. LED does not grow better medicine than hps. If that was true, there would be shelf dedicated to LED grown weed.:dunce::dunce::wall:

You haven't done a side by side or even seen one, yet you claim authority on the subject?

I've done it against HPS and CDM/CMH lighting and the UNANIMOUS response was that COB LED grown product was superior. They could see it through clear jars from across the room.

And you call yourself a doctor?

So you have done HPS versus CMH versus COB? CMH not so good?? CMH was kind of the rage for a while.
