Are Auto's Fertile? Can they be seeded?

Hey Tim,

Yes Autos are fertile just like any other strains. The problem is that most breeders only sell feminised auto seeds. You can't keep an auto mother-plant because it would go into flowering automatically. Seed banks do it on purpose so you keep buying their seeds.

But some still sell regular autos though it is getting pretty hard to find these days.

Hope this helps
I recently got some regular auto seeds from seedsman, the breeder is flash seeds super blueberry haze. You can breed them just like photo plants. Cheers

I got Freedom of Seeds - Guerrilla Ryder regular auto seeds to breed with female autos for some more seeds. It is not bad at all, white widow x lowryder 2. Made nice hard buds with pretty good taste and mid sized plants with good branching.
I have grown out the seeds I got crossed with a fastbuds GSC mother and they were nice plants, all autos, pretty close to the GSC mothers. No hermies or any weirdness.

I think there is selfish gene that will prevent seeds to be viable. But I think none of the cannabis seed companies use it. They use this method it in corn grow in USA to prevent competition and watermelon in Israel cause ppl don’t like to spit seeds (bit surprising as we do like to spit each other).
As far as I know u can cross any cannabis strain u want and seeds will sprout.

I grow photo period for many years and I always start from seeds. I do seeds run from time to time (once evert 2 years or so).
This winter I decided to try autoflower for the first time. I grow in the etic and temp is very low, 10-15C in the winter. (in have narrow space as well)

I got my seeds from Amsterdam seed center. They give freebies, store all seeds in fridge and have tons of variety including regular auto (regular are rare in Europe)

i got These this winter:

Auto Sweet skunk F – I saw many good reviews on it and for a good reason. It might be the best strain I had so far, auto or not. It takes 65 days and has great taste and smoke. Only bad thing is medium yield, but I think it will be hard to match auto yield to photoperiod. It was so good that ill probably stick to sweet seeds only in my next purchase. (Only company I saw that print package date and give freebie inside the package)

Auto lemon haze regular by emerald – all sprout but only 50% are auto. Got one nice male that almost finished in 30 days. Females were ok, Decent smoke but no lemon at all

Auto Tao mix regular – none sprout, but I blame myself for choosing niche seed package.

I have lemon haze cross with lemon haze and sweet skunk seeds. I hope to gain bit more experience with auto as yield is almost half compare to photoperiod (it was cold winter in Europe this year, let’s hope summer will be better)

It just seems like too much of a crap shoot to cross a photo with a auto, then wait to see if that seed is an auto, then what, it’s to late to do anything :(. I guess if somewhere down the line you find a great auto well nuff said lol. I’m hoping I will someday find a keeper (it’s been a long search lol) and self the shit out of it. I had 5 or 6 seeds I picked out of a think different plant that was ok but I’ve lost them in my 100’s of secret spots lol. I just want good fresh outdoor bud in August....is that asking to much lol.

Typically(always?) the auto gene is recessive, so unless the Photo plant in your auto x photo cross has the recessive auto gene as well, none of the offspring would have the autoflowering trait. They would, however, carry 1 auto gene at least, so if grown out and crossed with an auto (back-cross or self) again, all the seeds would be double-recessive, thus fully autoflower.

They don't use it in corn. They patent and when they find that thier product used by another gamer wind pollinated your crop they will sue you into the poor house.

You got plenty of time to see if they are auto and seed them.

Its work but its fun. Even if they are not auto its a way to build seed stock.

Used to people said that autos are watered down. Now they are just as potent. Auto or photo the offspring can be good.

I want to know how it goes with the flash seeds.

I've been getting low germ rate with the reg seeds. I have a few fems, Im hoping they are better. I have four red libanon running right now from flash, it's the only pack I could get to grow out of 3 packs of 8 regs. I'm not sure if they are just old packs from attitude or if flash made crap seeds. Something is fishy; I'm not the only one that's experienced this. With my white sirus and heavens haze only 50% poped and then nothing, they couldnt make it out of their shells.

Funny you mention that because I have had problems germinating white Sirius. I had a zero strike rate, not one out of eight seeds popped also from flash seeds, now I'm thinking not so flash lol.

The weird thing is all the blueberry haze popped but not the Sirius and I did all of them at the same time.
Maybe some strains are just dodgy, I'm thinking they should hand more free seeds out with every purchase as your not really getting what you pay for.

But it's part of the game here, technically it's illegal to germinate here so yeah what do you do?
I've only just opened my eyes to the many many different strains out there now. Things in the canabis world have evolved nicely.

I'll keep u updated with the blueberry.

True,

Lowrider is sold as regular seeds. However, it's the first generation of autos. Not very potent.

If you want to go that route, you're going to have to cross these with a more potent strain and then stabilise the autoflower trait and the potency.

If you cross these 25% together over 5-6 generations, the auto trait will most likely breed true.

You only got 25% because it's a recessive trait.
Maybe. I would rather select one of the 25% and cross it back to the mother. It requires making fem seeds that way.

I could select the 25% but its not as simple as that.

Not if the mom is an auto. If she is, you can't backcross because the mom is most likely 6 feet deep already (Deep in your lungs:bigjoint:).

If the Dad was a real dad and not a reversed female, you don't have to make female seeds. But you can if you want.

If you run a large number of plants and open pollinate the 25% autos phenos together, you should't lose vigor. Always keep the seeds from the previous generations in case you fix an undesirable trait by mistake.

Cheers,
