Arcata Documentary

Hey guys, I have a question for you all.

I'm producing a documentary on the marijuana culture in Arcata California (backed by a big company) and we need to get access to someone who has a grow house who would let us get a camera in there, and also someone who has a modest personal grow.

It can be anonymous, but it would also be fantastic to get someone who can talk about their perspective and about the issues surrounding marijuana.

If anyone has any connection or advice for me, please let me know. you can send me a private message and we can make some kind of arrangement.

gonna be hard to get a big grower to open his yard to a stranger. doesn't hurt to try though.

the best advice i can give you is to not have made this your first thread/post this one... your on a website full of ultra paranoid people... at least to one extent or another EVERYONE of us has something to worry about.. be it from the law or just the punk ass kids down the street who would break in and steal our shit, or anywhere in between....

the fact you are doing a documentary is great... i think there should be more docs done about how things really are, verses how the media/government want to make it look like... and i wish you all the luck in the world with it.. but you will be hard pressed for anyone on this site to just willingly agree to have a "stranger" just show up with cameras and allow them to video tape or document ANYTHING about their personal grows... the only person i know (and its not at all personally) that can get away with that is the urban grower... but he just goes to legally sanctioned grows...

maybe after time, if you met and networked a little, got to be known on here, and gained trust, what you are asking wouldnt be soo insane to ask... but for now your an "outsider" that no one knows and in all probability wont/cant be trusted....

this is not a personal attack on you... just an insiders perspective for an outsider to hear and maybe understand...

With technology the way it is today anyone can video their own grow op with a hd camera and send it to this guy in the mail with no return address or a fale one and be safe but still included. You can send text questions on here and they can answer them on the video as it's shot and you can splice in your audio questions in editing.


What are you paying for this priveledge? You are backed, big, where's the dollars? Time is money for big growers and the more you pay the more likely you will get the impressive grow you want.

he said in the original post that he wants "to get access to someone who has a grow house who would let us get a camera in there".... if he just wanted video he could get on youtube.. i have a video of an old grow and dont mind talking about it.. hell i would even record my new setup/grow and talk about it.. but there is NO way im letting someone in my house to do it... and im sure if he is getting backed by a "big" company, who is going to cut you a check, it would have to be in YOUR name.. so yea, you can send a video and shit.. but im sure if you are going to get paid like you are hoping the "big company" will want to know who they are cutting a check to... i dont think there is much of a way around the interviewer and "big company" knowing who you are and everything about your grow... they may keep you anonymous in the doc.. but i would assume not to them... at least when it is all said and done.. nice thought tho.. i would love to get paid for sending someone a video of my grow and talking about it while staying 100% without a doubt anonymous to everyone involved...

Video off youtube doesn't equal someone using a hd camera as I suggested and answering all their question on it the way they want. Seriously folks what truly big op is going to let a couple strangers in there when it's their entire life on the line? ZERO

thats my point exactly.. no one is going to let this happen to them.. i dont have a large grow, and still wouldnt let them in... if he wants to get into someones grow to film, i was simply saying, that it probably wouldnt happen..

and yes, i agree that an hd video with in depth coverage and a ton of answers on it is much different than a youtube video... that wasnt my point at all... my point was that he specified wanting to enter someones grow op with a camera.. he did not ask for someone to send a video to him with pre determined questions answered on it... it would be great if that would suffice.. but based on his question, and the fact that he has some sort of corporate backing, that idea is very unlikely to be enough to satisfy his "wants" or to "get paid for"...

why not jest set up your own op for the movie. I nice looking op could be had for 5 grand if you did it right, for soemthing that on camera looks awesome. I bet you could go cheaper and get something that looks great. With a big company backing you.

Buy some clones, set up a perpetual, 5 months and you got three rooms going. easy for a liberal arts filmaker.

Of course just the possibility of it makes my ears ring but since Marijuana Nation was the most viewed program in CNBC's history and with the current state of affairs it could also certainly be legit. Doesn't matter though if the pope and obama himself guaranteed safety we all agree they will not gain physical entry into the truly large op they seek. Just won't happen. I suggest my way and offering a substantial payment for a tape of the big op in hd or they still won't get even a video of one. I don't even know how they'd arrange payment since nobody's going to give an address to send a check even. You'd probably have to arrange a meeting with an intermediate that doesn't even know where the op is to begin with, view the tape to see that it suits you and pay on the spot in cash only.

Hey I have the best idea... How about you fact check things with those that really know what they're talking about like us perhaps and not allow the political party line stuff to be said without correcting the lies clearly right afterwards? For example everything that comes out of a politicians, policemans or corrections officers mouth.

I'll do THAT for free, we all probably would.

Don't do that same old carp where they give both points of view and leave it up to the viewer to believe what they want to believe, give it straight and without question.

That's way different though, you know who he is, we all do... Nobody here would know the random camera dude they bring in an in person interview, or the sound or lighting guy or whatever.

Okay everyone, thank you for your thoughtful dialog on the best way to get footage of a growhouse. And thank you bossman for your response, I sent you a pm a little while ago.

Fact of the matter is, many media companies have achieved this type of access, and somehow we will also. Hell, some news organizations have gotten interviews with terrorists and murderers. It's obviously off-putting for someone with a large grow to want to show a camera, but the idea here is to start a private conversation with someone so we can verify our legitimacy and assuage any fears. And if after our conversation you still don't want to do it, that's fine and we'll never know who you are.

But there are many reasons why we can't allow for someone to shoot and deliver footage to us, for one thing, it wouldn't be professional, and another is for legal reasons.

I also like how someone's 'cop radar' went off earlier in the thread. I can assure you, I am no cop, and no crook/thief. Just trying to make a documentary. and on that note. documentaries are notoriously inexpensive, and though we are from a 'big company' that does not mean our budget allows for lavish costs. In fact any access or interviews we get will be on a lo/no payment basis.
