Aquaponics works!

This is the third set of pictures that ive put on here. and yes it is working. the plant has been growing for a little under three weeks. please write back with comments or suggestions thanks

Looks like a good system. You essentially have a flood and drian system which I think has been well known to work. You could've used better medium for your system like hydroton or rockwool slabs instead of river rock but not everyone has those available to them. Good work and good luck.

Nice. I've seen some crappy looking aquaponic grown plants but yours is the first that makes me real curious to try it myself.

How much work is involved with maintaining your system? Can we get a pic or two of your fish tank too?

there is hardly any work involved besides putting chemicals in every week, n jus scrubbin the tank once in a while with a brus.......the only thing im using nutes as is the fish waste, and aqua plant supplements that i got a local pet store

idk y the pics r makin the tank look greenish but its suppose to b clear tho

Damn, there's barely any fish in there. I was expecting big ass fish filling the thing up considering how green and full of life those plants are.

that looks like a very happy plant, man!

The water is green because a flash of light will go through the water at different speed and at a different angle than the light passing through the air. This may very well not be true.

well ya i have an alligator in the tank n i also have fish n i gotta constantly stock the tank bc thats what he feeds off of

Is this the kind of set up you could leave alone for a week or two?

Imagine putting the plants into a stealth cabinet just under the fish tank. You could have a babysitter come and take care of your "fish" while out of town and they wouldn't know about the plants.

Every time I look at your setup I dig it more.

When do you plan to flower?

Dude that is sick. I never seen a plant that looked so healthy in essentially a fish tank. Nice stuff

Yay Guppy-ponics! Long time curious - first time actually talking to a live person! I have a few questions:

1. Do you "Run to waste", or recirculate the water through the tanks?
2. How do you determine the tank size/population vs. the size of the "Grow"?
3. Can you give us a link, or point us in the right direction to a site that really explains (in great detail) what Aquaponics is all about?
4. If you are doing a DWC can you keep the fish right in the reservoire?

Okay, on closer inspection, it looks like your running a "Modified NFT" (Nutrient Film Technique) - so question #1. is changed to "Are you using your fish tanks as your reservoire, or do you have a seperate reserviore?".

very interesting. i might whip out my mini tank that i used as a kid and try this out!

it depends bc im in my flowering stage now so i shud sex it in a matter of days now but b4 mayb u cud hide it but not now bc u smell mj now in the room


everything jus recirculates thruout the system...its pretty much the perfect ecosystem in my room.....

i have my lights on timers ryte now 10 hrs on 14 off ryte now

i have fans constantly circulating my room so that it helps builds up the stem stregnths

also some1 mentioned earlier about overflooding but in my plant bed i have holes so that the water can drain back into the tank a week or so ago a root down the hole n is not about a ft long just chillen in my tank so i mean idk overflooding is a problem with my system

any pics that u wud like to c in particular let me kno

I'm imagining fish tank on top with overflow, nutrient layer middle with lots of space for lights, small rez below which gets pumped up to fish tank on top.

Could probably fit the whole thing in a nice sized cabinet of sorts, self contained... nice laquer finish

Maybe even fit a small computer in there to automate some tasks like pH, protein skimmers, UV treatments, etc. With connection to local network, maybe webcam could record on remote machine for security.

Very nice and simple. First one I have seen with an alligator. How often do you replace fish and how many?

I am trying to plan out my aquaponic system. I am gonna build it in the winter in a homemade greenhouse.

I don't love fish but would like to start raising my own and eating them as an alternative to store bought mercury filled fish and other meats. I was thinking Talapia but I need an edible fish that can live in very cold and warm water. I don't know much about fish anyway.
