Setting up my first grow room and I couldn't be more excited!

Before I go any further I need to explain something first. I don't even smoke. Growing is only a hobby for me to see if I can do it. Its something novel to enjoy and share with my friends. Really I just want to compete with myself to see how great of a yield I can grow.

Today my first 5x5x7' grow tent came in and was set up. I also placed an order at Herbie's. Four different strains are headed my way, not including the freebies. Thats assuming they make it to me.

Given that it will take weeks if not months to get my seeds, I have plenty of time to finish creating my grow room. The next and biggest purchase is a grow lamp. I'm sure everyone will tell me to go straight to a 1000w setup and that's what I've been looking at. But I wonder if a 600w setup would work also. Not only the initial cost but also the ELECTRIC cost.

For my budget I've been looking at Apollo Horticulture. Anyone have a review they would like to share or recommend something in the same price range? The Apollo is already topping my budget a bit at $225.20160811_205801.jpg20160811_205814.jpg20160811_205853.jpg

Don't tell anyone bro. That's a mistake. once the cats out the bag it won't go back in... Unless your legal then who cares lol.

You could do a 600w, but in that spot a 1kw would do better I think. Best I could get my 600 to cover is a 4x4 area.

Apollo is ok. Look on eBay, I got my last 2 ballast (Lumatek) for $35 each. eBay is the way to go for saving a penny on light fixtures/ballasts imo.

Absolutely not telling anyone except my girl. And the kind people here.

I've looked on eBay but buying used makes me nervous that the equipment is junked. Plus I'd have to buy a hood and bulbs since I'm starting from scratch.

I just ordered the if the 1000w is on a dimmable ballast you have 100% 75% and 50%. I'm getting a 600w on the way now for the flexibility I'll start at 300w aka 50% with let's say 2 plants and then 450w with 3-4 plants 600w 4-5plants. I'm no expert but 1000w seems like over kill for that little tent. 170$ before tax gets u a 600w bundle with an air cooled hood.

I have a couple of their 600 watt lights, and tents. Been running for about 15 months steady with no issues (have changed bulbs). Cant complain for the price.

Thanks for the information!

Everything has been ordered and is on its way. Pretty excited to get everything setup and start this experiment.

In other news, I ordered from Herbie's and got a confirmation email on 8/19. It said they aren't using confirmation (signature required) mail for my order which I paid for. Something about the orders with confirmation having a lower success rate of being delivered.

That makes me nervous but everyone here raves about how great Herbie's is. Its been 2 weeks today since the confirmation so I'll just stay hopeful!

1000 watts of light in that tent is 40 watts/sq. ft. That is the least amount of light u should use for a 5x5 area. Good luck.
