yah you can do it.. some people say that hps lights are too strong for the seedlings but i havent seen any problems with my sour deisel other than streching

You can do it, most will argue its a waste of hydro. If its far enough away it will do good.

I sprout my seedings with CFL'S. I think hid lighting on seedlings is over kill. In fact, I've got some purp, ak48, white castle, A.I., bubblegum, Sin, and Eve seedlings under CFLs now. I do all my cloning under cfl's and one well rooted They veg under high output T-5 's or a 600w quantum set at 75% for a week or two and then its off to the flower room.

the reason i ask is because i only have lil tiny 30w bulbs..those 2 dollar cfl bulbs..there not that great and i dont have enough lamps..i was thinking if i were to use those i'd have to put 1 cfl over every pot.

If a 400 watt HPS is all you have, then go for it, but consider this....

You are going to cause stretching, nothing you can do to stop it, it's the plant's response to the spectrum. HID lamps are overkill for seedlings. While you can do it, you can also kill a squirrel with a .45 hand gun, but it's overkill. You are going to be spending a lot more on power than is needed, and you are wasting a good bulb on seedlings when you could have used a shop light or some cheap cfl bulbs.

Couldn't you have sent that in a private message? Why jeopardize your membership here over something like this? You cannot abuse any other members, or you'll be shown the door.

Yes, use the CFLS for at least the first week. I'd only go 6" away for the first couple of days before moving them any closer. Save your 400 watt bulb for what it was intended to do, build buds :) You only get so many prime time hours before the bulb begins to diminish in intensity. There is no reason to waste 336 hours of bulb time (2 weeks) to seedlings that only need a CFL or FL.

Easy bro, don;t let him get your goat.... his thread was already reported as abusive and harassing in nature. He'll be dealt with. Don't get yourself in trouble too. :)

I used cfl's for the first time this year for seedling's and i was extremely pleased with the result's.

i had my doubts about them too, but they are still up and running on more seedling's and clones.

im new to all of this, but so far, i have sprouted 3 seedlings under a 400W CMH (using HPS ballast) they are doing very well right now. cant say if i have minimal or alot of stretching, but i will note that the girls i have under a 2 bulb t12 dont seem to be growing up much (very minimal stretch) but they dont seem to be growing any more bushy atm either. not compared to the few i had when i was using just the CMH for veg/seedling/clones...
