i cant seem to get back all the butter i put into making budder. i always weight my before and after, before is always 110-114 and after im usually left with 75 tho last night i got 85. numbers are grams. anyone able to reclaim all or almost all of their budder?

You will always lose some-- it is absorbed by the plant matter- some coats the cookware/filters and cheesecloth soaks some up...
always start with a bit more than you need for a recipe-- OR just add melted butter to your end results to make the volume you need...

Thats why we started making Ice Hash 1st-- then melt THAT into the butter-- less lost that way, and easier to figure the dosage per portion!! ;)

yea i feel like im losing thc on that lost butter, putting in 7grams for a stick seems like im losing budder. i figured the leaf soaks some up same with cheesecloth. i add butter to end result to make up the stick but i have been thinkiong about melting icewax into the budder, i dont have to strain the hash budder do i? seems like if its fullmelt good luck straining lol thanks for chiming in!!

yeah, i have noticed the loss as well. but smoke is lost into the air if you use that method. its a part of the process, if the loss is bothering ya really bad cook the remaining oily plant matter with milk after the butter. i hear the result is a somewhat tasty drink that will salvage more of that lost thc/oil. never tried personally though

i actually was happy with how much i lost this time around. i lined a seive with cheesecloth and pressed it out, next time im gonna take what i pressed and throw it back on low heat with 1/2 - 1 cup water and try to draw out as much as possible next to using a 2ton jack(my next option if i feel the 2nd water rinse doesnt recover any more.) also anyone tried that new magic butter buddy thing, looks like a nice thermos with lights?

use paint strainers and a janitors bucket to strain with. the paint strainers are nylon and dont absorb anything. also adding 50% water to the mix will help u recover the loss. we usually get a 95% return

i wish i sat around n thought about adding water to the leftover before cooking it, i also decarboxylated for the first time. i did the 293 degrees for 7 minutes. how do you decarb your bud for edibles?

i love the sound of 95% return!!! this last time i got about 80%... 85 of 112. i knew someone was pulling near 100. thanks for chiming in.^^

170 is fine if u decarb first. i see no point in decarbing then infusing when the process can be combined which is why we choose to infuse @228 so we kill two birds so to speak.

as i previously mentioned...yes i use water

The last batch i made i decided to make it with Vegetable shortening instead of butter and i must say it has been the strongest ive made with less green. I used X amount of vaped grinds and trimmings (also some hash, but not much) and just a 1/4 teaspoon left to dissolve under my tongue is all i need for several hours of enjoyment.
However, i took too much one day (1-1/2 teas over the course of the day) and was on a scary ride. lol. It all hit me even harder at night and i was losing my marbles. Very fast absorption rate too through my hands while ringing it out from the cheesecloth (probably why the 1 1/2 was hardcore).
Try it this way one day guys, i promise you it is the only way to go. And you can also cook with it the same as you would butter.

well i put in 4 sticks and got lil over 3 back, about 80% return. not happy but what the fuck ever! need to find a better way to squeeze the butter out of the material, like hydraulic jack.
