Anyone know car audio?

I was thinking of installing a small subwoofer into my jeep. Nothing to piss of the neighbors, but enough bass to feel like I upgraded from what I have stock.

Couple questions, I was looking at kenwood 12'' 1200watt subs, here's a link http://cgi.ebay.com/KENWOOD-12-CAR-...Enclosures&hash=item5193ffb159#ht_5166wt_1137

I was also looking at this amplifier to power it..http://cgi.ebay.com/LEGACY-AUDIO-LA...Amplifiers&hash=item5adadddbdf#ht_3649wt_1137

Anyone know if they are compatible, or if there are better offers out there?

check your local car audio place.. usually they have specials.. i know mine always has a special for subs, amp and instal for like 3-400$.. usually its the kicker comp subs or the fosgate P1

I guarantee you that thing puts out no where near that much power. When I was into it the general rule for me was $1 per watt. Just buy a simple setup like an Alpine V12 amplifier (an older model would do fine, I have a 10 year old in my truck and works perfect) and a JL Audio 10W3. That's all you need in a Jeep. Always look at the RMS wattage, not the advertised watts, it's bullshit.

yeah it will work but i would get a better amp and it depends what music you listen to but 10s hit alot harder then 12s

a single JL Audio 10W6, or 12W6 and JL600.1 amp I has the 12W6 in my wrangler, and it hit u want a sealed box tho so it will still hit with the top off.

I totally agree with leroy but from the price range you look like your lookin at jl is gonna be hard to come by. Now if i was you i would be patient and go ahead and pony up for the jl then save up and get a decent amp the one you listed is a piece of junk. you can get mych better sound an im talking quality not volume your gonna want something accurate in an open air vehicle or its gonna sound real bad. look on craigs list for someone who is upgrading and get a combo deal, just have em run jumpers to your battery so you can hear it work before you buy!

yeah you dont need big giant amps to power subs. I have one alpine 350 powering two 10" and my car rattles its so noisy. In a jeep you might be fine with a bazooka tube, which is a self amped sub enclosure. My dad had one in his jeep and it was great and not to loud but loud enough.

The bazooka tube actually looks pretty neat, how was the sound from it? You say it is a self amped sub enclosure, what does that mean exactly, and do you have a good place to buy them from online?

Just stick with JL Audio for subs, those things can handle just about any kind of power you put into them. I miss my JL 12W0s and 12W3's, best sounding subs ever made. When I'm ready to do this again I'm going striaght to JL10W7s :D

id say find a two channel amp instead of a mono. mono amps are really designed for 2-ohm stable subs. since you'll only be using one 4 ohm stable sub, buy a 2 channel amp with an RMS rating 400 watts and bridge the sub to the amp. check this one out http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-RS-1602-1-6...iewItem&pt=Car_Amplifiers&hash=item5193f844b5
see under the features it says rms output 500 x 1 @ 4 ohms? thats what you wanna look for.

looks like a good deal for an amp. Would you pair that with the kenwood subwoofer, or is there something better around that price?

i would pair them. i was just using that as an example. generally the brand name doesn't mean anything, its all about RMS output. id be more worried about using ebay but thats just me.

Just bolt the fucker down, and get a car alarm. Whatever you put in there, make sure any thieves that come calling get a bullet to the chest or head.

The amp and sub will work together, but aren't the best. That amp will probably sound muddy. Most amps are made cheaply. I agree with the dude who said to get an alpine V12. I had some alpine V12 amps that got stolen, but they were the best sounding amps i ever had. Crisp and clean. also would go as loud as i ever needed them to.

I also agree that you should get some JL subs, though the kenwoods are not the worst subs out there. RE Audio also makes good subs. Alpine type R or Type X are good. Most name brand subs will perform well for your purpose. But get a good amp.
