Anyone here had a bad experience with black ice?

One time I was late for work going on the highway and I hit a patch of black ice. Shortly there after a cop pulled over and asked me questions, then just left me there. I completely denied everything (speeding etc) I have a suspicion that sometimes they take buckets of water and make black ice to trap speeders

I have hit it a couple times. Once in my parents van when I was young; hit it under a bridge on a curve, smashed into the curb and fucked up the rim. Second time I hit it on an onramp and my little car went into the guard rail and slide along.

I have learned a few things. Never get a car with RWD. They suck in ice and snow. If you live in a climate with snow, go front wheel drive.

Also anti-lock breaks are mandatory. I don't understand why anyone would ever get a car without them, or why the option even exists. The cost of getting ABS is nothing compared to the damage that will happen without them, especially if you injure or kill someone. Boggles my mind that anyone would ever get a car without ABS under any circumstances.

Now I have a trailblazer with 4wd. I have not needed to use it yet, but when it's icey or snowy I put it on the automatic option. I'm not sure if it has even engaged yet.

Last Tuesday was driving home at around 7 at night in a snow storm, hit some black ice on a curve, was going 50 mph. Down the embankment hit a culvert and popped out the other side. My car is an 2010 evo, 4 wheel drive, they called me Friday.............$13,000 damage!!!! Holy shit!

I have 2 4x4 trucks and it does not help on ice, apparently 4x4 cars are no better. Air bags never went off.

no, they choose specific spots that will cause speeders to wipe out into a safe location, then they check on the spot, and try to get the person to admit to doing something illegal and then they give them a ticket. Not all cops do this though, but some actually do

several. there is one spot in my old neighborhood, that always developed black ice whenever it snowed. And it was right before a stop sign. Also on an off ramp. the passenger side wheels went over some and the car pulled to one side. Scary.

I drive all kinds of vehicles in all kinds of weather. Black Ice is a cold hearted bitch with no regard for highway saftety. There is only one sure fire way to beat her. Slow down. Never brake on ice, and snow tires and 4x4' just add false confidence to drivers who are already idiots lol....Iv'e seen just about everything out there in over a million miles of safe driving.

i get pretty nervous driving on the highway now especially when you wanna slow down during these conditions and the majority of people are still driving like its a perfect day.

nothing new to report here. just got back the other day from driving all around washington state. no black ice, but plenty of plain old ice on the roads.

over 600 miles in the snow and ice without so much as a close call, just took it easy, changed lanes gradually, and kept plenty of distance. i thought about this thread a few times too.
