Anyone grow by Lux?

I ordered a Lux meter and have been doing some research. I find people claiming ranges all over the map.

Veg to 20k - 70k
Flower to 40k - 85k

Where do you target your lights?

I use Lux to gauge light intensity.. I am vegging at around 30k to 35k now and will turn lights up to 40k to 50k when I flower. Thats what I do and it has been working the last couple grows. Not saying its correct but from the info I could find that was what seemed best to me . I put very young plants at 10k to 15k and turn it a bit higher for a couple of weeks to reach desired Lux for vegging.

Thanks for your response.

are you vegging at 18/6 or 24/0 at 30-35k?

The thing I worry about is light saturation because I had that occur yesterday. I turned down the lights and the plants got better so I know it's a real deal.

I just came from using CFL's. The concept of TOO much light in 24 hours is foreign to me. ha! I have problems in my grow but not enough light now isn't one of them. :)

I have my lux meter and a dimmer on my lights, all I need are numbers to set my lights.

I also wonder if height has anything to do with intensity if you are using a dimmer. As long as I have a dimmer, I could set my height to 3' or 1' as long as it was 15k at the canopy. Is this true?

I do 18/6 at 30k to 35k and my lights are at about 20 inches for vegging.. I am not saying this is correct but it works for me .. Not a big believer in too much light as plants do great outside at more than 100k lux for 18 hours a day in the sun. Kind of shoots that theory down for me. I tried my lights lower and plants did not like it. I keep them at around 20 inches. Not saying I am correct as I am still learning but this has worked for me in the past . Its all trial and error and finding what works for you. I cannot say what is true or not.. What you say makes sense but I never saw the need to get my lights so close. Peace

Thanks. I installed my lights and turned them up too high and damaged my plants. I won't make that mistake again.

Your 30k sounds about right at 18/6. After a lot of research I've decided to go 18/6 to 25k and not risk damage to my plants. I plan to flower at 40k.
