Anyone ever up and move for MMJ with no money?

Alright, maybe not with no money but a little money.

I have wanted to move out to Cali since I was 18 and it sucks just having money for bills every month. I'm wondering who else out there was broke but still managed to do it. What's your story?

I'm looking for some inspiration . How much should be saved for a move? I will just be bringing my laptop and a bag of clothes. I want to live the Cali dream, I have been told my whole life growing up, "Do what you love." but what I love is illegal here in my state. I have also been told money doesn't grow on trees and my response to that is "Not in some states.". I don't know, I have wanted to do it so long and I stink at saving money so I'm just losing hope in myself.

Hopefully you guys will help with some motivation!
Thanks guys!

A guy I was friends with from work just up and sold everything except his clothes and a few other items and got on a bus to cali one day. Last I heard he was doing alright and had a baby girl not too long ago, I don't think I could just up and leave like that but he made it ok.

If you at least have some friends or family there I would go for it, if things don't go your way you might be able to just stay with them for a while until you can move back home or whatever.

My brother did a very similar situation in May of last year. He packed his belonging and moved to just outside bakersfield, ca. He found a place he could rent online, sent the money and about a week later he left.

He left in May of 11'. He did not get a card until Sept of 11'. First he had to get Cali ID and that proved to be where his troubles started. Had to file for a new birth certificate from south carolina. He got the wrong one the last week of August. Once he notified them of their mistake they overnighted the correct one. From that point he was able to obtain Cali ID.

Proper Preparation is most def the key. I don't think its best in today's world to attempt this on a prayer :) Take your time, save some money, and who knows by the time you get enough money to feel comfortable doing it, you just may as well have medical cannabis statues in your state .

Lastly, My brother moved to Oregon in March. Be really careful what you wish for :) Sometimes a dream can really be a nightmare. In my opinion, the cali medical scene is proving to not be all that its cracked up to be after all.

All the Best~

if your not good at saving money, and you plan on growing for cheese you have some things to work out first. There is no jobs in cali, at least southern. I have friends that graduated from college that live at home and work for 8 bones an hour. its expensive to get a place out here. i dont know what size grow your talking about, but check mine out. to get everything setup and get through to my first harvest was about 12,000. i kinda did the up and move thing to start a grow, except i already lived in cali and only moved a few hours lol.

the last 2 sentences in that write should be copy pasted into everyones thread that wants to grow in the "cali dream". where there is legalization, there is competition, tenfold in california. everyone can drive a car with simple direction.. not everyone can race cars and expect to make money at it.

Not enough data. It depends on how far you're moving and from where, how much stuff you're moving, where in Cali you wanna move to. It makes a difference. Med cannabis is no cheaper than "street weed" thanks to Obummer. Just get your card and grow your own, that's about as cheap as it gets. I was born in Mendo but left before I was 3 but and am planning on going back after almost 60 years.

Yeah, if you wanna move to Cali, I suggest saving about $10k first, assuming you're gonna be by yourself. You can't find anywhere desirable to live for cheap, and you can't find any jobs where it IS cheap to live. Unless you have a job and a place to live already lined up, I suggest just stuffing more money in the piggy bank for a while.

lol the place I live already is not desirable. I planned on moving out with someone else. I was thinking 3k a piece would be good but now I'm thinking 5k a piece. Thanks for all the responses. I'm still curious as to how comfortable landlords are with MMJ patients and growing their medicine. I was hoping to move close to Mt. Shasta because I'm a huge esoteric energy nut but that's a whole different topic for another discussion. Even if I wasn't interested in the MMJ scene then I would still consider northern Cali because I have been living in NH for my whole life, and I want to partake in the green rush!

good luck if you do make the move.Cali is a bitch to live in, plus everything is so high vs other states, but got to love the weather here, because that's priceless!

Amen. I know some that will say yeah this movement is the "cali dream" but then again the other guy will tell you its a "cali nightmare hidden within a dream". TO each there own. I would not say that what my brother did , all will do. He just didn't find the picture correct to his satisfaction so he moved elsewhere.

He's doing great in Oregon. He's got great employment and is growing his own within the laws set by Oregon. He's had no hassels and his local dispensary has never had any heat what so ever. For some reason, cali takes the W on heat from the dea. The started the movement and the heat has stayed there for the most part. For the most part, the dea is really only in the scene at cali. I am not saying they don't fek with other mmj states, but they def don't fek with them like they do those in Cali.

I got a buddy of mine who wants to move out with me. He got hit by a truck when he was younger so he got a large settlement check and he's willing to spot me a personal loan. My only problem is I'm not sure how to go about landing an apartment or small 1 family as I am 22 and do not have much of a relationship between the landlord and I. It has always been others peoples name on the lease when I move in so I'm not sure how I go about speaking with a landlord from across the country with no history.

I graduated high school in 79, got in my car, had 200 dollars, moved to texas. The night I got here I slept in the car, the next day I got a job at a construction site. I would leave with everyone else and then go back and sleep in the unfinished condos. It was summer, 100 degrees every day, took showers with a hose for several weeks until i had enough cash for an apt. It can be done just depends on how much you want it.

yeah i hoped on a train from NC and now im in a legal state save at least2,000 and you should do fine. it works be ready with your med records and its will all be good.God told me where to move so i literally gave up as much as i could to leave and come to a med state. i slept on the floor for 2 nights and then got me an air matress and now im going to college got a rec and a speed dial med delivery dude. i can grow if i want. dude its easy just dont forget to find a cheap place... doesnt always mean it will be looking that way. i have a porch, big kitchen, living area and a bed room with a built in dresser. coming from a state where i had a bedroom bathroom 2 closets dining area and kitchenette its worth it.

That's the kind of stuff I needed to hear. Now that brings me onto my next question, when I'm looking for a place should I make the landlord aware ahead of time that I will be growing my medicine? How does a typical patient-landlord relationship work?

landlords dont want you growing pot in there homes.. legal or not. its not good for the home, you will be fucking shit up and probably losing your deposit. i went into it knowing this was going to happen so im not too bummed about it. if you pay a little more than the house is worth, thats a guarantee that your landlord WANTS you there and will most likely leave you alone. if you decide to go norcal. i hope you plan on driving to socal to get rid of it. the market is in the dirt up there and if you get anything below a top shelf, youll be lucky to give it away at 2gs. the clinics only buy outdoor up there, or most ive seen. not to mention the norcal area is so steamed with potgrowers, that if you tell your landlord.. "oh i dont have credit history, and i pay cash" hes going to know in less than 30 seconds that your a pot grower. its really flooded, definitely research more.
