Tobacco plants are a great ornamental plant for landscaping. It's a very nice looking plant and the flowers are beautiful. It's actually very easy to grow tobacco. Nowhere near as difficult as Cannabis. Give it a try. I think you'll enjoy the experience. :)

Aye, its very easy to grow tobacco.. Its best to sow the seed indoors very early in the season as it takes a while to get going. Transplant outside when the weather warms up and watch it grow...anything upto 7ft high ;)

fairly easy plant to grow, yes. give it a good spot in the sun or in a prime location indoors. (as they said, its a rather ornamental plant)

its rather similar to grow to cannabis, actually, though easier.

There is a harvesting/drying/curing process. I'm sure if you google it you can find out information on the best method.

You can dry it and smoke it but it`ll taste much better if you cure it for a month at 130F and 60% RH. For farm production you`d probably need a shed but its easy to build a curing box: http://www.coffinails.com/curing_tobacco.html

Actually the common garden variety of the tobacco plant is readily available and can produce sweet but nicotine laden tobacco, many local garden centers carry it the scientific name is Nicotiana sylvestris, it is one of the original parents of the hybrid tobacco plants used for mass production and is very pleasantly fragrant in the evening and after a few hours of darkness

Agree. Try it, they are easy. Start them inside early and take em out when it warms up, sticky leaf and pretty flowers.

I picked up a packet of tobacco seeds from my local grow store for $3.50. the seeds are litereally smaller than grains of sand, so it's kind of a pain. Also, you do need some time before they sprout. I had like 8 of those little expanding peat pellets that I started like 5 seeds in each, and only 2 of them have made it. However, the ones that did are thriving and looking great. they're really cool looking plants. the drying and curing is the bitch though. make sure you get the kind of seeds you're going to use, like there's different varieties for cigars or cigarettes. I would recommend 2+ cigarette varieties in order to make a blend

I remember childhood memories of seeing tobacco being harvested and cured on a large scale, well its not that hard, but if done right it is a pleasure to smoke those....

I still grow a bit every year, and have quite a few friends that still maintain a tobacco presence on their farm. It is fairly easy, but the drying and curing process is very important to the taste, fragrance, and pleasure to be had with it.

Just as an aside, I know dozens of people that sell to marlboro, camel, parliament and other brands. There are huge tobacco farms sure, but there are also a whole whole bunch of small one's that make up the heartlands supply.
