Do they flower from a photo period or just flower when ready ,

I saw a terrarium with about thirty or forty plants. They're very cool and need lots of humidity and yeah they eat bugs but they eat so little they wouldn't be an effective pest control and the cycle of closing their modified leaves round their food and digesting their food and then reopening for more food takes a while. MB even weeks but I'm not certain.

High humidity, no nutes, distilled or RO water only. Do not feed it hamburger. Moss only substrate. Bring it in during the winter and keep it in a terrarium. They are native to southeastern NC you live in the NC mountains, it'll die due to the cold.

thanks you all

I was reading about them and it said not to feed hamburger lol ,

It also said that maggots , warms wold be ok , but its not necessary to manually feed them

I was hoping it might work for pest control around my plants but D.B informed me in the 2nd post that they wont be any good for that ( oh well )

Maybe ill end up seeing a fly land on it and get to watch it snap close lol

I popped in thinking you were talking about the MJ strain, not the real species. Cool.

I was going to post my pics of my Venus Flytrap MJ plants, then realized what you were talking about.

Sorry nothing to contribute, but interesting thread. Will keep an eye on it.

outdoor pest control = ladybugs.

we let out a couple hundred in the veggie garden a month ago and there are still quite a few around. you just want to give them the sort of environment they'll stick around in and not clean up fallen leaves and other stuff like that for them to hide under etc.

Fly traps are very slow at digesting bugs but they are pretty cool plants and are indigenous to a very small area in N. Carolina. They are a little hardier than other carniverous plants but do require decent humidity. I also like the pitcher plants if you are into that sort of thing.

Neem oil every seven days applied in the early morning or early evening will handle all of your pest problems and will keep it organic.
