hey all,

what i mean by double harvest is, cut off the top colas first that are more mature and then wait to crop the rest of the plant a few weeks later?

i usually throw my girls under a mesh and allow them to grow through.....then i add a second trellis about a foot above and start to scrog. i lolipop anything under the very first mesh. normally when harvest time comes i crop the whole plant, but i was wondering if it was better to just harvest the top colas above the scrog......and then after let the plant that is left between the first mesh and the 2nd trellis grow and harvest that again at a later date?

whats your opinion on this?

I don't do it, but I know people here, and real-life grower friends who do this. Whereas I use all of my underdeveloped buds for edibles, many like to ripen them further.

Since I run a perpetual, plant space in my tents is spoken for long before I harvest any plants, so I can't really leave half plants flowering anyway.

i would think that it would help with yields leaving the lowers to grow more mature. most of the time my lowers are looser buds so i was hoping that if i waited week after itll be like having two seperate harvest? does it affect the smoke in any way?

It doesn't affect it at all. Due to apical dominance, the plants energy will be focused to the upper part of the plant, so the lower buds will always be a degree less developed than the upper bud sites.

Chopping the tops so the plant focuses all of its energy on the remaining bud sites will just ripen them further is all.

if lets say i were flushing the plants for 7-10 days before harvesting the top colas and then i chop the top colas and i have lots of underdeveloped buds, would you go back to feeding it nutrients so they can possibly grow into bigger buds. i guess what im asking is if the plant is really in week 10 and i chop the top colas, would i treat the bottom as if i were back in week 8?

I don't ever flush. Regardless, yes, keep feeding nutes until the very last harvest, like you were back on week eight.

its there truth to buds not being able to have white ash when smoking if not flushed? or if you hangdry and cure long enough is that enough to get white ash in your smoke.

I will be doing a double harvest this time. The top budz are PHAT but underneath are meh. When the tops have my desired amount of amber trics I will chop all the top nugz off and let the light to the middle section of budz. I don’t expect them to EXPLODE and swell too much but they will mature. The underbudz are usually more sticky I found.

This time, after I cut off the middle budz I will leave all the bottom larf on and try to reveg the plants.

Should you add fertilizer back in if you are going to go another 2 weeks - yes. If all your leaves are colored and faded then I wouldn’t put full strength nutes.

Does ash turn black or white depending on flush - you won’t get a definitive answer for that. Some will say yes. some no.

If the top cola is done and the bottom popcorn is white hairs, then YES harvest the top and let the rest go.

If the top is done and the lower buds are mostly red, some white hairs, I usually just harvest it all at once. The popcorn nugs aren't going to amass to that much anyways.

Would calmag be bad to have in the water while doing this?
I prefer just straight water for the last 2 weeks before harvest. It's not going to hurt the plant to feed CalMag up until harvest, it's just a preference for me. I feel like my buds/smoke come out a lot more smooth and flavorful.

I know a lot of people that feed all the way up until harvest, so it's really all in preference.

Try to plan ahead, that's what i've found works best. If you notice you are yellowing too early or showing signs of deficiencies in the middle/late portions of flower, then i'd look at upping your feeding early on for your next grow (not seedling stage, after the plant is 2-3 weeks old).
