Anybody taken on a job that they know they aren't suitably qualified for..?

I've just recently accepted a temporary position doing something that I love but there are many people better qualified for the position around locally...

I don't even know why I accepted it, Now I've got no life at all until it is over because I have to spend most of my waking hours learning new things and relearning what I did like 8 years ago so I don't embarrass myself completely...

It's a teaching/mentoring sort of gig working with youths... Can't really put any more detail out there as I've already shared too much about where I live on here and it would be pretty easy for someone from my area to figure out who I really am on here with more info on the job...

It should be good... It's just got me nervous I think... Cause it's important to encourage and influence kids in a positive manner, and they definitely need some guidance...

Yup and not precisely by choice which actually makes it a little less stressful. But in this execrable market learning/re-learning is a great opportunity for you. So congratulations you know you won't be bored this summer.

Dude This will be an awesome learning experience for your. If you have a question don't hesitate to ask your boss. Remember the number on rule "get it done correctly" even if it takes you a bit longer. If you show you are interested and want to learn then your boss will most likely keep you.

I started taking guitar lessons a long time ago but in a year or so I started giving them.
While I didn't know it all i knew way more than the people I was teaching. Their questions
along with my desire to not look as inadequate as I felt sometimes kept me on a path of learning.
Yes there were way more qualified but it mattered not to the people I interacted with and when I stumbled
on someone I really couldn't help i sent them to a friend who went to college and all that.
But yeah you do spend a ton of extra time researching. I benefited way more than most of the students.

We should turn it upside down... Then perhaps I'd have a chance of growing out some pure Sativas without rotting buds...

I'm guessing it's just where I live in Tassie tho, Winter doesn't play round here...

I dont know if youve heard of the 'signalling hypothesis' but the less qualified you are for a job the better (according to behavioral economics) - I have it the other way round... I am qualified in something i know absolutely nothing about, id argue thats worse :p

So if I understand the theory from my brief scan of the lengthy and wordy description, It's purely a money saver for the employer to hire me as I'm not rocking the big qualifications...

I'm fine with that...

The fact that you love it makes you the best qualified. The effort you're putting in is proof enough.
she hit the nail on the head. if you're willin to put in that much time to help kids an learn your job then you're more than qualified for that job. the rest that have the credentials might night give as much of a fuck about the job or the kids they just want money. those kids seem like they'd get more outa you than some random just lookin for a paycheck
