Anybody growing mushrooms willing to talk???

I don't know if there is any way to fuck up in the growing part that would lead to anyone getting sick. As far as I know, it's the shit that might grow on stored mushrooms that aren't completely dry that you have to worry about. During the grow, anything growing that isn't a mushroom should be fairly obvious.

There is some lore that the fruit can absorb toxins from neighboring mold.

But I have trouble believing it. Mostly the thing that makes you sick (besides the presence of chitin of course, and that is mostly because you can't digest it and it's just physically sharp), is bacterial infection of the fresh or only slightly dried fruit. There is also a bacterial blotch that turns caps black and soggy.
Folks will think this is just a water saturated fruit and dry it normally. It WILL give you stomach problems. Usually happens from condensation dripping.
This happens with agaricus, the button mushroom as well. And of course some careless fools will let their perfectly dried fruit get damp and then placed back in a bag.

I suppose botulism is possible given the pH but I don't know if anaerobic conditions can occur in zip lock bags.

Hey, you guys. I have the perpetual question, can different phenotypes (not strains) have different effects? We all want this stuff to have the variety of pot but in all my years I just can't tell.

Years ago I grew some Amazon that perhaps six or seven heroic users all explained that they saw an abundance of pink in their experiences. I figure it was just a weird coincidence. The people had no contact with each other so it couldn't be suggestion and of COURSE I saw pink everywhere on them.

But IS there a "body high"? What is that really? A cerebral buzz? What?

So far as we know there are three psychoactive in cubes, beaocystine (sp), psilocin and psilocybin.

One supposedly converts to the other as it metabolizes. There could be varying amounts of serotonin but we don't know how all these interact with each other and we don't know what other apparently trivial chemical or precursors react, if they are present at all.

So what do you all think and why?

Different species for sure have different effects in a general way.

what I’ve found is that individual cultures of the same variety also have different effects. Shrooms have so many genetics in them that even growing the same kind over and over from spore you’ll get slightly different effects from each batch, along with different potency.

Same with weed really too, plant ten seeds of one strain and you’ll likely get a couple different phenos with separate chemotypes.

Well, I've worked exclusively with clones for long periods of time in an effort to have the experience dependable and predictable... as predictable as this stuff can actually be. So theoretically at least, the genetics, save sentience, should be identical.

just a thought (from a beginner), but could mushrooms be less genetically complex as cannabis?? and only be 1 strain w/o phenos?

Well, there are phenotypes but it is entirely possible that they are less complex.

However, look at peyote, it is packed with various psychotropic. Opium poppies are filled with dozens of various alarms.

And other mushrooms have many different compounds.

Right if something visibly looks to have anything that looks like a contam on it it I won't eat it. Made that mistake a few times it will give you a stomach ache. If there's some trich on the substrate and it's fruiting at the same time i feel like the mushroom can pull some of that contam into it because they pull moisture from sub, but all that moisture leaves when dehydrated but I'm sure some of the bad stuff stays.

I feel Like when I torch the needle and stick it in the ship while it's red hot is leaving too big of a hole in the ships and may be letting some contams in some jars. I should probably replace them more often. Seems to do it more with the rubber ships than RTV. The only time it seems to do it with rtv is when I use too small of a drill bit for the hole. How do you guys make your ships? Now I'm using 3/16 drill bit and rtv.

Nice!
Kinda looks like a nightmare to harvest though.
I’ve switched to bags. xlsa bags. You try for 1/4 lb from 3 flushes which you will get because less chance of contams. Anyways. I’m on my way out from tubs. Last tubs of the jack frost they hardly had any stems. In the bags they’re beasts. Pic below is from those tubs. Second flush should be bomb.
IMG_8855.jpeg Very full first flush pinset but took forever to harvest because they were shorties. Just under 1/2 lb average 66qt
