Eating meat is bad for the environment. That's one argument for vegetarianism that no one can refute. I do love a tasty steak though.

Eating meat is not bad for the environment..... Sure, raising cattle is. But the ones I eat are already grown and dead. Not much good I'm gonna do by not eating it....

i think people that have a larger meat to vegie proportion diet will die of some kind of heart failure later on ;)

i just think we should eat meat but not TOO much of it

Dude, firstly eating anything that isn;t wild harvested is bad for the planet....

Don't think your vegies come without death, think about the pesticides, fungacides and displaced wildlife.
Or your your pet's food doesn't come from the same livestock animals ?

Sadly I fall in a the small group of people on earth who can not stand the taste of most vegetables.
It is not a case of not wanting to... most just make me vomit at the first bite.

As a family we do try and be reasonable though, one chop each (we mostly eat mutton in the RSA), and then lots of starchy foods like rice or potatoes and fruits.
I do eat a few veggies, but not enough to be able to live off... and no amount of hunger has ever swayed me... and I've been desperatly hungry before.

Omnivores Vs. Vegans...old.
sure, if you eat a 100% vegetarian diet you might be healthy, but chances are you are taking a vitamin b12 supplement or others to make up for what your missing out on in meat. I wonder how our cavemen ancestors would have faired without eating meat protein for easy, on-demand energy as compared to eating fucking plants.

Our intestinal tracts are not short, but they're not long either. This makes us Omnivores, we can eat almost anything we want. Vegetarians make the argument an ethical one, because they can't argue the fact that our biochemistry is an example that we can and SHOULD eat meat. Omega-3 oils from fish, are a prime example of nutrition found in meat. And don't bring up the carbon dioxide emissions from slaughterhouses shit, Global warming is a scam, and i thought more people were aware of this.

I will never limit myself to being a vegetarian because i am freakin healthy and always will be thanks to good genes and metabolism, but i do believe that all the overweight people in the U.S. should switch to a vegan diet and lose weight...

Cavemen? Early man had no choice but to eat meat as a matter of survival. Agriculture gave rise to civilization. Meat is no longer necessary as a means of survival. It's a throwback to man's early development.

The protein myth was debunked decades ago. In truth, most Americans ingest too much protein. I've been a vegetarian since 1996 and a strict vegetarian since 2001 and NEVER taken a nutritional supplement of any sort.

Global warming is a scam, but it goes way beyond bovine flatulence. Overgrazing has resulted in erosion of topsoil across the continent. Ultimately meat is inefficient. Raise the grain to feed the animal, then slaughter the animal. Every step from the farmer in the cornfield to the butcher at the supermarket requires petroleum. My diet eliminates the need for the animal, the cattle truck, the feedlot, the slaughterhouse, the refrigerated truck hauling dead animal carcasses, and the butcher.

Frankly I don't care what anyone else chooses to eat. When asked I am happy to debate the benefits of my diet choice, but in no way do I seek converts. What you eat is strictly between you and your doctor.

I do wonder how many meat eaters would continue the practice if they had to slaughter all the meat they consumed. That's a lot of killing.

That's an interesting thought. I think there would be a lot more vegetarians out there if carnivores had to slaughter there own proteins.
Although, in my younger years, I was a slaughterer for a small family farm out in NE and I can't say I worked with any vegetarians. ;)
I also worked as a meat cutter and I must say that it's much harder than slaughtering. Especially when you accidentally nick a sweat gland with your knife and you end up with smelly, green stuff all over your face.
The farm I worked at was amazingly efficient. Organic, grass-fed beef, processing and butchering on premises in all LEED Gold certified buildings. We ran a CSA program, as well so people could come and pick up there own meat on a scheduled basis.
It was much more efficient than any neighboring vegetable farms.

Dude not really...kill like 2 cows a year. "a 400kg liveweight animal should give you about 140kg of edible meat." 400kg=881lbs. and 140kg=308 lbs. of edible meat... so that means killing 2 cows is about 616 lbs of meat. Then add some chickens and fish..I'd be fine killing all the food I eat:mrgreen:

When it comes to beef, you are correct about the rate of killing required. You overestimated cattle, underestimated poultry (85 lbs. is substantially more than some chickens), and ignored pork altogether.
In calendar year 2007, estimated retail weight beef consumption per person in the U.S. will be just over 65 pounds, at least 0.5 pounds below a year ago and the smallest since 2003. U.S. pork consumption for the year is expected to be just over 50 pounds, up 0.9 pounds from 2006 and the largest since 2004. Annual U.S. broiler consumption in 2007 will post a rather unusual year-to-year decline. In 2007, broiler consumption will likely be just over 85 pounds, down about 2 pounds from 2006 and will be the smallest since 2004. Overall, per person U.S. red meat and poultry consumption in 2007 will be below 2006’s(down about 1.3 pounds) and will be the smallest since 2001.

In 2008, forecasts call for a very small year-to-year decline in U.S. beef production and for relatively large increases in pork and poultry production.

However, you missed my point. To me slaughtering and dressing just one sentient creature would be too much to bear.

I am not alone. Based on the number of so-called animal lovers out there, I would say you are in the minority as someone who claims he would have no problem with the dirty business of killing.

Supermarkets have made it too easy for the average consumer to disregard the harsh reality of meat.

Yeah, because there would be no grains and vegetables available once the monetary system collapses. LOL!
Hey johnny, have you never killed an insect?
I'm a gardener. What do you think?

The relevant question for this thread would be: "Have I ever eaten an insect?"

I have. Lots of them. Worms, too. You learn to eat some nasty stuff in survival training.

But survival school was a long time ago. I would like to think I have evolved since then. But we are not talking about survival are we? We are talking about the everyday diet.

Sure. People could survive off eating plants. Then again people could take a shit while doing a handstand. That don't make it a good fuckin idea.

I didn't ask about eating for a reason. You have no problem killin insects? They are sentient beings. I believe your definition was a creature that will fight to protect it's young. You're obviously willing to sacrifice sentient being's lives for your non-sentient plants. Who are you to decide what lives are worth preserving?

Attackin johnny? I'm not attackin him. It's all about the fun of the debate. Shit, I may even learn something.

Funny. Because since I have become a vegetarian I have seen report after report urging people to eat less meat. The tip of the food pyramid seems to be getting smaller and smaller. I have never seen one study recommending that people eat less fruits and vegetables.

I am my own person who determines for myself which line I am willing to cross in order to sustain my existence. Your line is in a different place than mine.

I place animals (which we all are) higher up the scale than I do plants and insects. I do not enjoy killing insects, but it must be done to ensure a harvest.

I would hack that cows head off with a machete dude(then cut up the rest of the body...I'm not a butcher so I'd have to learn some shit):fire: Trust me I'd have no problem killing an animal (yes I know humans are "animals" too...but cows are low on the food chain...fat motherfuckers) No offense. I'm with you on eating vegtables though I would be vegetarian but I like meat too much. But really lets play spot the difference.

A human kills a cow and eats it=wrong
A Lion kills a cow and eats it=...well thats life

now wtf is wrong with that? Humans are animals too right? Why aren't we getting mad at lions for killing other animals? ITS THE FOOD CHAIN. Tha slowest weakest motherfucker always gets killed:peace: Seriously no offense I'm kinda rambling and shit.

The lion kills because it has no choice. Evolution leaves it with very few options.

Human beings have evolved. We no longer practice slavery. We eliminated 'colored only' water fountains. Blacks and whites intermarry legally. Homosexuals no longer are forced to live secret lives. All those things were in place throughout history, but we turned away from those practices not because they suddenly became wrong. No. We as a society realized they were wrong and rejected them as we evolved. Part of that human evolution of which I write is the rise of agriculture, which has given us the power of choice regarding our diet.

I exercise that choice by not killing that cow.

Honestly I don't care what you eat. It's between you, your cardiologist, and your oncologist.

I am only concerned with what I choose to put in my body.

Which is ultimately why this thread gives me the giggles. This vegetarian-ambush thread has seriously backfired.

Hey I'm not ambushing the vegetarians (mainly you):blsmoke: It's all love over here. I'm just saying I think animals can be eaten because its the circle of life. Yea, humans eat way more meat then they're really supposed to eat but w/e...I like lettuce too...:D
