Any updates on MMJ and Guns

at the time it was penned, yes, the latter reason was still valid.

nowadays, not so much.

back then, everyone pretty much had the same "arms". bayonets, cannon balls, muskets, rickety wooden ships, and the like. now, we have nuclear bombs, neutron bombs, chemical warfare, fully automatic machine guns, panzer tanks, and so much more.

if the need ever arises to overthrow a tyrant, no one is going to bother to do so in a constitutional fashion. it's not constitutional for citizens to own atomic bombs, but we'd get them from some eastern bloc shit hole if the need arose.

prodigaysun* would have a conniption if he ever heard sotomayor's take on the second. we'll spare him for now.

*this satisfies the need for a gay joke
I agree mostly.

IF a dictator/king/monarch or whatever came to be in power (or a situation where citizens defended themselves from annihalation/mass imprisonment) they would use the tanks, planes, bombs and guns against us.

Nukes not so much.. although I heard there is a new bomb that is as powerful as a nuke but produces no radiation.

Personally my hope would be that if any President of this country made the order to use weapons of mass destruction against the people, that the 82nd ID would land, remove them from the White House and hang them in the Mall!

They would.

Just for fun, here are some numbers to think about.

There are 1.2 million residents in Oakland County Michigan. Of those, it can be safe to assume that half own guns. It has been said that only 3% of people will actually stand up and fight, when SHTF. Thats about 36,000 people willing to fight to the death for our freedoms.

There are currently about 1200 employees of the Oakland County Sherrifs Department. Of those, only about 1/3 are uniformed street cops. The rest are desk jockeys, and pencil pushers. That leaves about 400 beat cops. Of those, a clean half are oath keepers who would, if SHTF, more than likely stop the other half from going against the civilian population, assuming they all came to work. Thats not likely, considering that during Katrina, most of the officers never showed up, and that was over a storm, not a war. So you have 200 cops left at a maximum. Then there is the military. all 2 and 1/4 million of them. Ok, to keep the math easy, there are 50 states, leaving 50,000 soldiers per state. There are 83 counties in Michigan, so assuming that there are an equal number of people in each county, which there are not, that leaves 600 soldiers per county. As with the police, there are about half the soldiers who would attack civilians. The rest of them would uphold their oaths. (I have spoken to soldiers who would not only disobey an order to attack civilians, but have said they would fire on their fellow soldiers who tried it) So...at most, you have 200 cops, and 300 soldiers vs 35,000 well armed civillians willing to fight to the death. And that's just in Oakland County.

futile?

For the civilians, yeah.

It just depends how far the government is willing to allow the military to go.

Example:

How many soldiers does it take to man an AC 130 gunship? A hell of a lot less than 300......

And it would only take one gunship to destroy all 35,000 civilians you just mentioned.

Okay, now think about the unmanned drones.

That means no military casualties at all.

Government like banking is based on trust, lose that and they simply cease to exist. As neither one politician or banker has been held accountable to date for the corruption of the past decade, yet another unsustainable precedent has been set that endangers this republic. Just as not taking out the trash is not truly the cause of a divorce but rather the last straw, I would suggest you look at gun rights in that same light.

Hmmm Can you think of one push of leftist social policy theory in the history of man that did not end in atrocity and war? Power corrupts my friends, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Probably where my negative outlook on politics comes from. I don't see much room for improvement unless something drastic happens to get rid of the current mess!

Alexander, after conquering many kingdoms, was returning home. On the way,
he fell ill and it took him to his death bed. With death staring him in his
face, Alexander realized how his conquests, his great army, his sharp sword
and all his wealth were of no consequence. He now longed to reach home to
see his mother's face and bid her his last adieu. But, he had to accept the
fact that his sinking health would not permit Him to reach his distant
homeland. So, the mighty conqueror lay prostrate and pale, helplessly
waiting to breathe his last.

He called his generals and said, "I will depart from this world soon, I have
three wishes, please carry them out without fail." With tears flowing down
their cheeks, the generals agreed to abide by their king's last wishes.

"My first desire is that", said Alexander, "My physicians alone must" carry
my coffin." After a pause, he continued, "Secondly, I desire that when my
coffin is being carried to the grave, the path leading to the graveyard be
strewn with gold, silver and precious stones which I have collected in my
treasury". The king felt exhausted after saying this. He took a minute's
rest and continued. "My third and last wish is that both my hands be kept
dangling out of my coffin".

The people who had gathered there wondered at the king's strange wishes. But
no one dared bring the question to their lips.. Alexander's favorite general
kissed his hand and pressed them to his heart. "O king, we assure you that
your wishes will all be fulfilled. But tell us why do you make such strange
wishes?" At this Alexander took a deep breath and said: "I would like the
world to know of the three lessons I have just learnt.

Lessons to learn from last 3 wishes of King Alexander...

I want my physicians to carry my coffin because people should realize that
no doctor can really cure any body. They are powerless and cannot save a
person from the clutches of death. So let not people take life for granted.

The second wish of strewing gold, silver and other riches on the way to the
graveyard is to tell People that not even a fraction of gold will come with
me. I spent all my life earning riches but cannot take
anything with me. Let people realize that it is a sheer waste of time to
chase wealth.

And about my third wish of having my hands dangling out of the coffin, I
wish people to know that I came empty handed into this world and empty
handed I go out of this world".

With these words, the king closed his eyes. Soon he let death conquer him
and breathed his last. . . .

Things are too good here for any real unrest. Unemployment is high for our standards, not nearly high enough for enough people to get really pissed off. Sure our roads, especially here in Michigan need to be repaired but our nations infrastructure is second to none. We have it really good here. There are somethings that bother me such as drone strikes on US citizens, the expansion of power of the executive branch, the expanded influence of business in our politics.

People are unaware of just how many of our rights don't even exist. We take them for granted and our government does not enforce it but we are on the brink of having no rights at all. I don't like sounding like a conspiracy theorist but there is a lot of truth stuffed it the bullshit!

I would dispute the notion we are on the brink of having no right at all. I will agree that there is at least a shred of truth in most conspiracy theories. The birther one, not so much.

Elctrical grids older than most of us discussing this http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-04-26/news/35452037_1_electrical-system-electricity-costs-power-plants Shit needs to change plain and simple and it starts with the people who are shitting all over us to be put out until then we can all still be spoon fed our propaganda soup and live with it. :fire:
