Any reviews on Norstar seeds?

You probably already know this but if you are interested in Purple mayhem you should also check out Gooeybreeder/Canna Exotics as he is the one who bred Purple mayhem. Gooybreeder and Norstar are friends and Gooey lets Norstar use his genetics from time to time.

I grew Moon shadow from Norstar(Old Mendo Haze x Purple Mayhem), and was impressed. The plants were huge, I grew them in a twelve foot tall greenhouse and I ended up having to bend and train the top two feet of the plants horizontally along the ceiling of the greenhouse to get them to fit.

I grew three females; two were very purple with lemon berry or lemon cantaloupe flavor and huge production, one with a lemon vanilla flavor large production with surprisingly early maturation(first week of Oct, but could have been harvested a week earlier) and almost no purple color, and one that was very purple with super thick stems but very little flavor.
All were super easy to grow, moderately mold resistant and three out of four were very tasty and potent. These plants actually surprised me with how vigorous and productive they were, far outgrowing two other Bohdi strains(DLA 5 and Soulmate, both great strains also) that I grew the same year. They were the first plants to mature in the garden which also surprised me considering that they were far more sativa dominant than the other two strains that were growing with them.
The packaging was nice, the seeds came in a glass vial which I thought was a nice touch and included a pamphlet describing the strain. The only slight negative I experienced was that I had a somewhat bad germination rate with these. I generally have a great germ rate and had no problems germinating the other strains that I had started at the same time, I'm not sure why this was. There was a "best if germinated by" date on the package, the recommended max time span from packaging to germination was five years, my pack was four years old. They were the smallest seeds I've ever seen, I'm not sure if size of seed is a contributing factor in how long seeds stay viable, but it crossed my mind.

According to Norstar's description, The flavor of Moonshadow is Mendo haze dominant, the Purple mayhem was used for color and structure.
Over all I would highly recommend this strain and I would grow it again in a heartbeat(I made F2's).

Messed around with a couple of Vintner's Moonshine inside and flowered a clone in a bucket last year to see how it liked the outside. Pretty little plant and has decent smells and effect.

Neither the indoor or outdoor plant(s) tested were big, by design. Mine seemed to be slow veggers, indica dominant but not "oh my god" rock hard buds, more squishy and fragrant. Maybe medium on the bag appeal , but again, decent grapey etc. smells per seed breeders description.
Since they were only being tested they never got the royal treatment and up potted to a large container, so that may have been a factor in their smallish size.

Thinking of trying a clone in a 17 gallon container outdoors in the northeast this year and maybe pollinating a lower branch with some reversed MOB, cuz some things just beg to be done... The little one outside purpled up nice last year.

This is kinda freaky, but ditto to damn near everything you said. Right down to the fact that I made some MOB x Vintners Moonshine. I plan on giving them a go outdoor this year. I only did a small sample run indoors of the cross, but the berry terps carried through strong and all showed some purple of varying degrees in the flowers.

Good on you for making that cross. It's still on my list of things to do. Your results are encouraging and might be the kick in the ass I need.

Thx for the replies. So far in my cart i have the 2019 gooey from gooey breeder, dirty little secret, and midnight snack from norstar. Its forum cookies x purple mayhem.
Im growing outdoor in the nor cal hills and my main concern is getting plants that carry hermi genes. I was told chem dog and diesel carry these genes so i may not try the midnight snack since it has og in it. Any thoughts? Ive been trying to find good strains that dont have chem or diesel in them that led me to gooey breeders gear.

Hermaphroditism in cannabis is primarily an indoor concern, it rarely happens outdoor. I've been growing outdoor for over a two decades and have only once had a hermaphrodite and it was some random bag seed. The choices you listed sound great to me, the pure Gooey has been on my to do list for a couple of years now, if you do end up growing it I'd be interested to hear how it turns out for you.

Thanks, that's an interesting and thoughtful observation about hermies. pretty much what I've seen too.

I've never grown a straight equatorial sativa outside though, which I've heard has a higher incidence of hermies.

I've heard that too, and it's probably true. However, I've grown Chem 4, and Chem 4 crosses, sour diesel crosses, Bohdi's Wookie which has Tres dawg in it's lineage(Tres dawg = Chem d X Double dog. Double dog = Chem d X Chem d/afghani#1), and a couple of Mango biche crosses. None of the above hermied. Outdoor is different in regards to hermies, I think you would have to really stress them to have issues.

I've never grown a straight equatorial sativa outdoors either, my season is just not long enough(northern California).

how do you breed bubba kush with banna og and get regular seeds. and why has no one mentioned that type of breeding from northstar ? it's obvipus he knows what he's doing based on the relationship with brother gooey. so, only thing i can think of is he's making a back cross but not making it known in his descriptions. nothing wrong with a BX but at least tell with what for the pollen chuckers who want to play with them. ijs

Grand poohbah is half Purple mayhem, I grew Moon shadow which is half Purple mayhem, it was a fantasti,c strain, also very purple.
Good luck
Nice, I got a few other things from Norstar, this is the first to be popped, I see you're a fan of AKBB as well, Skunk Quabbage x Mimosa is in the next round.

I loved AKBB's Black Domina/PacificNorthwest Hashplant x Super Skunk, I would absolutely do that one again. Haven't tried Skunk Quabbage x Mimosa, but Skunk Quabbage is on my to-do list.
As I mentioned, I really liked the Moon shadow strain from Norstar, great quality, and huge producer. I liked Norstar's packaging, very descriptive and I appreciated that the seeds came in a glass vial rather than a little baggie like some breeders do.
What other Norstar strains did you get?

Agreed on the packaging, including freebies and such I've got Banana Sap, Bubba Fresh, Instant Karma, Flaming Orange, Zest Og and the Grand Poobah, so far.

I have a Solar Winds (Royal Phoenix X Purple Mayhem) growing right now. Its very different looking from my Vortex and Querkle by Subcool. Darker green, very different structure. So far i'm enjoying its purple smell, its only a week and change into flower.

Update, the Solar Winds definitely going to have purple buds. Smells amazing and sweet with a purple smell.
