Any experience with Double Ended HPS?

Lol

I looked into it, those hoods are at least $100 more.

What kind of light system are you getting? Got a link/pic?

I run with Gavitas and just make sure to keep air moving between bottom of reflector and canopy.

You are doing a 4x4 space, what is the height? If 8ft or less, you really should not do the 1000w de, its too powerful, you wouldn't even be able to turn it up. I have 8ft ceilings and rock de with a couple of the Gavita 6/750e de.

So, you should look into the Gavita 6/750e de ;-)

I am not quite sure yet. I was looking at that yield brand one.

Thank you again for the advice-our tent is 80" so the 1000W wouldn't work, I am going to look into that Gavita 6/750e de. I am just leaving work now.

And wow....you have 2 of them!? I might have to stock your journal and check your stuff out!

What do you use to cool yours? We are looking at the Gavita Pro 6/750 DE now.
right now i'm just moving enough air, at least 500cfm per light. but it is also wintertime where i'm at, and air is cold :)

if you set a tent up in your house you should be able to get away with just moving enough air.

where in the house is this thing going to be set up? try for somewhere cool, basements can be ideal.

if you're just doing one of these lights i can't see you needing any AC or anything, you should be able to handle the heat just by ventilating.

its not that these DE necessarily put out more heat than the single ended types, it is that the DE put out more raw light, and in return, more heat is created. not only will you need to remove the heat from the tent, but you will also need air moving inside of the tent, at the level of the canopy, to keep the canopy cool. so, air movement inside of the tent, and air ventilation through the tent to physically remove the heat.

We are growing in our basement, and we live in Michigan. Our basement is probably consistently 65 degrees, even colder in the summer.

This is our set up so far:

Secret Jardin Lodge L160 x 1
Milliard 4-Foot, 4-Bulb Grow Light Fixture w/bulbs x2
Active Air 400 CFM Inline Fan, 6 inch x1
iPower Air Carbon Filter and odor Control x1
Active Air Duct Fan Speed Adjuster x1
Gavita Pro 6/750e DE Flex Complete Fixture - 120/240 Volt x1
Blue Kush Seeds x12
Big Bud Clone x1
Gorilla Glue #4 x1
Indoor Humidity Monitor x2
120V Cord

I normally feel the same way, just with it being slightly more expensive I am wondering if it is worth it, in my eyes it be like going with a Silverado over a S-10/Colorado.

See what I mean? How do you not want to get one? I am so annoyed the more I read the harder it is to pick out something!! This has been over a month trying to pick out a damn flowering light!

Again, how I am feeling too!

I might just take the plunge......I was hoping to hear some other Been there done that sort of experience before we make out choices. I worry about buying a single then 3 months later the husband goes out and buys a DE.
You've analyzed this enough. You know you want the DE HPS. So if you can afford it, just get it.

I've heard such good things about them, I want one myself.

A long-time, successful commercial grower on another web site says that's all he uses these days. He swears by them as cost-efficient.

That oscillating fan might be too big for the 4x4, you might be able to do 2x 6" clip fans... That fan would take up valuable floor space, and 16" is pretty big compared to the space of the tent... It could definitely work though...

Also, you're going to want more than 400cfm, 600cfm would be more like it. You can always dial it down if you need to...

That shouldn't be a problem, we can return/exchange the 400 cfm. We bought that when we were going to do a single hps. What 600cfm do you use? I will look into the clip lights. We are getting 2 already for the veg stations. Going smaller isn't a problem on the fan.

Live near Plymouth. Ann Arbor is one of my favorite places.

I personally use canfan. I have two of them, one 6" canfan and one 8" maxfan pro.

The 6" is around 650cfm if I recall correctly, and the 8" is 860ish cfm, with built in speed controller. They are expensive, but worth it in my opinion. I have had my 8" running all day every day for over two years, it has only has a 30 day break.

During that 30 days I bought an air handler squirrel cage fan and set it up, this thing was supposed to move 1500cfms. It lasted one month, then died, and my power bill that month was double what it should have been, so the blower was pulling over 2000w continuously somehow... Also, the maxfan has much better static pressure than the squirrel cage, and can pull through the blower and against resistance much better. You need static pressure to pull through the carbon filter.

Needless to say, I'm back to using the maxfan that I never should've switched away from. My airflow is actually better with the lower cfm blower, because it has much higher static pressure.

If you use a canfan 6" (you can get the pro with the speed controller so you don't have to purchase a separate controller) then you could pair it with a can filter 50. That should do it for air ventilation and filtering. Then the little oscillators for moving air around canopy and you're set.

As far as carbon filters go, I like to get the heaviest filter for its size. You can go to the store and see that two different filters of the same size are two different weights. You are paying for a metal drum packed with activated carbon, it would behoove you to get the most carbon ;-) that is why I recommend can filters, they're solid.

I looked up the carbon filter you mentioned, it is only 16.1lbs.

Can filter

The can filter 50 is over 50lbs, and much thicker. Similar height, can filter is twice as thick and over double the weight They're both made of aluminum. the ipower carbon filter is 8" but doesn't mention how many max cfm for scrubbing or exhaust, but I'm thinking you would need a grossly underpowered fan for the ipower filters, there's not enough carbon for it to effectively scrub at too high of a cfm...

Plymouth. I used to live in Royal Oak, Northville, Livonia, Redford... Now I'm out in the sticks, near i96 and us23! What are the chances that I choose to stick in this thread and try to help out and we end up living 20min away from each other? Crazy small world...

Let me know if you or hubby have any more questions!
