anti helicopters reflective material required in medium size cities?

I'm kind of in the middle of a suburbia and im wondering, should i get any anti-helicopter sheets for my closet grow of 5 plants? or do you think it'd be highly unlikely for me to get caught.

also, i dont live in a major city but i have heard helicopters fly over once or twice, not sure if its for something like heat radar.

Aluminum like all metals is a conductor and will reach the ambient temp and show heat just like if you did not use it.

FLIR does not see thru walls anyway - it only shows difference in temp of the surface scanned.
Unless your grow room is much hotter than the rest of the home or you are pumping lots of heat out of the house you will not be detected - even if they do scan your home.

I would agree, just relax, my bro is a cop in the town where I work and I know for a fact they don't do that shit here, in the mountains east of me they use a helicopter to see rugged sites that can't be reached by land...#1 thing to do is not tell anyone about it.....talking lips sinks ships...

when you say don't talk about it does that mean my grow journal is a bad idea i figured long as i show no details i would be alright on here but as far as here outside of cyber space thats the golden rule never show tell or talk on a phone about your grow

sorry m8 you are wrong you are thinking of condution heat. i.e rockwool insulation will only slow the heat down before it comes through the other side. then their is radiation or AKA infrared heat this will also pass through rockwool, but it will not pass through mylar or tin foil it is reflected back in to the room if you have an air space between the mylar and the wall then conduction can not pass through nothing it needs to contact somthing for the heat to travle through radation or infrared heat is then reflected back in to the grow room, but still neds to be extracted out of the room or it will get to hot now you have the problem of where to extract all that heat?

there are 3 types of heat

Convection is the transfer of heat by the actual movement of the warmed matter. Heat leaves the coffee cup as the currents of steam and air rise. Convection is the transfer of heat energy in a gas or liquid by movement of currents. (It can also happen is some solids, like sand.) The heat moves with the fluid. Consider this: convection is responsible for making macaroni rise and fall in a pot of heated water. The warmer portions of the water are less dense and therefore, they rise. Meanwhile, the cooler portions of the water fall because they are denser.





Conduction is the transfer of energy through matter from particle to particle. It is the transfer and distribution of heat energy from atom to atom within a substance. For example, a spoon in a cup of hot soup becomes warmer because the heat from the soup is conducted along the spoon. Conduction is most effective in solids-but it can happen in fluids. Fun fact: Have you ever noticed that metals tend to feel cold? Believe it or not, they are not colder! They only feel colder because they conduct heat away from your hand. You perceive the heat that is leaving your hand as cold.





Radiation: Electromagnetic waves that directly transport ENERGY through space. Sunlight is a form of radiation that is radiated through space to our planet without the aid of fluids or solids. The energy travels through nothingness! Just think of it! The sun transfers heat through 93 million miles of space. Because there are no solids (like a huge spoon) touching the sun and our planet, conduction is not responsible for bringing heat to Earth. Since there are no fluids (like air and water) in space, convection is not responsible for transferring the heat. Thus, radiation brings heat to our planet.

Latent heat: Transfer of heat through a physical change in the medium such as water-to-ice or water-to-steam involves significant energy and is exploited in many ways: steam engine, refrigerator etc. (see latent heat of fusion)

yes but we are talking about heat in the grow room that can penetrate to the out side of the house. Heat can only be transferred between objects by radiation, conduction and convection

Thats not at all true. Aluminum foil won't hide your lights Infared heat signature from the police. What it will do is give more heat spots in the growroom that will both burn your plants and poorly reflect your light. Mylar will protect you a little bit better from FLIR, but not if your running more then a couple thousand watts.

If you vent your growroom into the attic in the summer and out with the furnice in the winter, you will be completely fine and have nothing to worrie about. Believe me, it's not as hard as you think to properly vent a growroom. Using cool tubes or vented hoods makes it easy as pie. I vent over 7800 watts through the furnace exhaust and know for a fact that an infared Scan wouldn't give me away. With my right hand on a bible I will swear to the fact that a friend of mine owns an Extech IRC40 / I5 Thermal Imager which scans for IR. And believe me, the growhouse looks just like every other house on the street. So don't worrie about anything under 2000 watts as it bearly shows up at all. My fishtank looks brighter then it when scanned and that has a Mercury vapor light on it.

Aren't those two things mutually exclusive? Most of the heat is radiant(light).

You must mean Reflective Mylar. Aluminum metalized to PET fiber. How is it any better than foil?

i would not use tin foil in the grow room mylar is better, but tin foil does reflect infrared heat if it did not then how would you get a hot spots to burn your plants?

o.k to show how effective tin foil is look at this Aluminized fire suit it is the best at reflecting infrared it stops fire fighters getting burned from fire that is a lot hotter than your 8000w grow room. you only problem is extracting the heat lucky for you extract it up the furnice. if you cover your grow room with mylar the IR heat will not go through it, it will bounce back because IR heat is light! light that we cant see, but FLIR can. next time the sun is out hold a pice of tin foil to the side of your face and reflect the light from the sun to your face what do you feel? that is IR heat it can not pass through the tin foil and it is bounced back off the foil on to your face the same goes for your growroom.
