So, I decided to make the plunge and switch to organics!! I'm so tired of dealing with nutes haha...

I've got all the ingrediants except i'm wondering if the General Organics AncientForest humus is a replacemetn? And how much would I use to replace the powdered humic acid??

I'll be making a 1/2 batch to start

thanks

Hmm, I thought that the Humus added humics to the mix? Was I wrong thinking this?[/QUOT

I don't think your wrong NB, but the dosages would waaaay different, and to match it exactly would be next to impossible I would think. I use Alaska humus in my soil ix, I use Denali Gold, comes in a 1.5 cu ft. bag for like 14 bucks.
I may be wrong, but humates are humates I think, as long as you got it in there you should be good either way. I was getting a liquid called Humax a couple years ago, but it became unavailable in Cali last year due to some lableing issues of some kind. Im used it in my teas and my foliar sprays, but now I mix in the Denali. I use a half bag to 4 bags of soil.

my first batch of super soil, i used powdered sea kelp instead of azomite for trace minerals, and a 15 lb bag of alaskin humus instead of powdered humic acid.

soil worked great, but i think following the actual recipe would be best!

well i already got the azomite ordered...so you think using the 70% humate might be better than the humus huh?

Ancient Forest is NOT humic acid, it is barely more than overpriced peat moss.

Scroll down and find the *test* between ancient forest and peat moss. A real eye opener, especially when you compare the cost.

For humic/fulvic acid, visit www.bioag.com This is good stuff and VERY little is needed, like 1tsp/cf or less. Yes, that is one teaspoon/cubic foot of mix. The small $12 bag will be more than enough. Super quality and prices from these people. Also, check out their VAM (mycorrhizae) along with the HumiSolve or TM-7.

+rep thanks man!! I ordered their ful-humix... So, since I'm doing a 1/2 batch, I just mix 6tsp of this humic with my 4 bags soil correct?

Yes, 6tsp, or 2tbl, same thing. This is the same stuff I use.

TBH though, what I like to do better is add it later, diluted in water. The reason being, it's kinda hard to mix up such a small amount (6tsp) into 45 gallons of soil and get an even distribution. Takes a lot of shovel action. LOL

I've done it both ways, so whatever floats yer boat. I let my mix cook in 5 gal buckets now, with drainage holes. Easier for me to work with than the 32gal trash cans. I have both. Anyway, when I water the buckets to wet the mix, that's when I'll add the humic.

Thanks for the help Wet man... i see you all over this board! You always have good info :) I appreciate it!

Hmm... so can you tell me a little more about your process? You say you cook in 5g pots, so you fill each 5g with 1/3 - 1/2 SS so they'll be ready by flower? So, you flower in 5g and NOT 7g pots? How long do you veg?

Also, how do you know how much humic to put in the water for each 5g pot?

So, how about this idea to get the humic in there....... mix up the entire 1/2 batch (- the humic), but mixing the 6tsp of soluable humic into my 1.5g water and pouring that into the soil... would that get the humic throughout the soil mixed enough?

BTW, i did get the Mycorrhizal (pumpkin pro) hell yah,... I can't wait to see how this next grow does if it does as well as the stuff I'm reading about this.

Wet, 1 more question if I may... Is there anything else you add to your soil or do you pretty much go by the book?

I have heard about the bioag stuff in the past, just looking into it now. if i was to use the TM-7 in the manner you recommended, would you need to.do it again later in the grow? Is the TM-7 super charged ful-humix? Or are all of those recommended to be ran in conjunction with each other.

Yes, the TM-7 is ful-humix+7 micros. Use one or the other, but not both and either are excellent. The ful-humix is slightly more concentrated than the TM-7, but the TM-7 seems to be more popular with the added micros.W

@dimyself

I use 1/4tsp/gallon of water. What I'll do is add 1tsp to a not full 5 gallon bucket along with some molasses and use this to water the mix. Depending on how much mix, you might need to make more than one bucket.

I make 2cf of mix (wheelbarrow full), at the time and when mixed, it goes into 5 gallon buckets. 2cf will fill 3 buckets+. I have a boatload of buckets from container veggies and it is just easier for me than the big trash can.

They also seem to get enough air from the drainage holes that the mix doesn't sour. I don't mix it up to aerate it. Mostly, just wet them down good and leave them alone. Add water if needed. Just let them sit out on the deck like they had plants in them. LOL

No, I don't plant in them, just remove the mix as needed to another bucket. The plant itself determines how much SS to base is used.

Don't do that 6tsp to 1 1/2 gallons of water. WAY too concentrated. 1/4tsp/gallon every couple of weeks will give you much better results. Less really is more with this stuff. Even Bio Ag tells you to go light.

Thanks for the info! It did raise some ?'s though...

Are you saying you basically fill up your 5g pots with your soil mix and then fill A DIFFERENT 5g bucket with just water, molasses, and 1tsp humix?? If so, how much water do you use?

So, I thought for the soil to cook, it has to be covered so water won't evap? Do you cover your 5g pots with soil/water mix? Since you put holes in your pot or if you don't cover I'm assuming your soil dries out before it cooks?

Cool. I'll be adding it to the lineup. If I water it in when I am letting my soil cook, would you recommend doing it again later before flowering or something?
