ANC is my hero -shrooms

Hey you posted in a thread of mine about a year ago with a technique you use: Open lip shot glasses for shrooms. I was just wondering if you could eleborate your tek? Like your growing medium, when you take out the cakes, etc?

Hey its regular PF tek, (brownrice flour, verm and water. the glasses go quite fast, maybe a week or so.

Well the shot glasses just seem like common sense to me. When you make big cakes, mushrooms can only grow on the surface area, so you are wasting a lot of vermiculite and brown sugar. Smaller cakes means you still get decent surface area exposure with less volume used. I've also thought about taking the jar cakes and slicing them into partitions to get most exposure possible.

i would like to try this as well.... do you get a bigger yeild off of a pint cake opposed to a half pint cake? because if there is no yeild difference there i dont see why there would be and difference between using a shot glass, ill have to try

You actualy get bigger yields of any regular jar if you split the cake in two.

The real benefit to this method is low startup cost and fast turnaround time.
If you want giant yields, do grains spwaned into a proper medium, in a large flat container don't waste time on PF.

the shot glasses sounds so damn tedious

Its not tiny shotglasses, its whiskey tumblers. Those short fat glasses.

I really like this idea of doing it this way.

Using the PF tek with jars I grew way more mushrooms than I need.

Shot glass size containers would be perfect for the personal grower.

I was gonna say the other day, I've seen shot glass size grows and there so incredibly unimpressive, one or two skinny tiny little shrooms if it even fruits, I figured you were talking about the tumblers, but i wasn't sure you hadn't perfected some way of growing in tiny shot glasses lol, so i kept my mouth shut

ANC, I might try this with my current grow. So do you just use a clean knife and cut the fully colonized cake in two?

sterilise with alcohol, not just clean.

sounds good... So do you think I'd still get the same amount of flushes with halved cakes compared to full cakes?

You get more total yield from start to finish, check shroomery, I think I saw the tests on there, or it was on mycotopia, but I think shroomery.

My yields off of PF Tek might be considered small to some, but I pulled over 2 oz of dried fruits off 8 cakes by the time they were said and done. Not too shabby if you ask me considering the time and cost involved. Once you inoculate the jars there isn't really a whole lot to do after that except wait.
