Am I overlighting??

Hi everyone!

I just got myself a nice PAR meter, shows me the umols psqm. Anyways I measured my par readings and It was showing 1500-2200uMols....that seems way too high. I am using COBS CXB 3590s driven at 100W 30 inches away. So I turned them down a bit to around 75%...

I noticed the tops of my plants were flowering way slower compared to the lower branches, could this have been from too much light??

Thanks!

Yep, 1500-2000 umoles is like full noon sun. The Vero array I'm running lets me peak at1200 @15". I try to keep the canopy around 800-1000 umoles/m2

It depends whether you're looking to maximize g/sqft or g/W or some balance between. I would personally say that's higher intensity than I'd use.

So I have dimmed my lights down to half power and getting between 500-1100umol (Lower branches, top buds)....I think thats ok?

long day lengths at high intensity should be watched very carefully as problems run away from you in a blink of an eye

What kind of problems?

Slow flowering? Warped upper growth?

It looks like a few of my leaves have been cut off....like when you clone a plant...its stacked so close it has no length?

Its actually in my pre-flower room, im going for g/sqft
this site does not cover LEDs but your SPD is close to that of HPS lights and if you plug your numbers into the HPS calculator you will find that you get higher yield with less intensity and more growing area for a given amount of total power. http://www.angelfire.com/cantina/fourtwenty/yor/yieldcalcadvanced.htm you can have too much light which will slow or even stop growth (photo inhibition) or cause fox tailing (light stress) just because some is good more is not always better

Taken me a long time to learn this, but your right, my best buds seem to be my middle buds....I am dimming my lights to half power now, atleast they will increase in efficiency.
Took me a while, too! captainmorgan, one of the guys here you just shut up and listen to - he mentioned it and the girls seem really happy and are yielding well! its easy to think more is better, like nutrients too - same thing. good luck!

Yo! hows things dude?

well, short story is no! just about moved house...getting settled then going travelling in july for 3 weeks (central america) then back to normality.

Looking forward to properly growing again in August and popping some new beans - mostly Karmas gear and maybe some more bodhi. Ive got a veg tent and flowering a 3x3 600w quantum board grow at my girlfriends at the mo...she wasnt keen but now quite likes looking after them (: looking alright too, might grab some snaps.

I'll start a new diary when i get back. I'm always popping in for sneaky lurker catch up times...lol!

hope you're well

I'm not one of the experts here, but I think many would recommend 900 in flower. They say only the very good growers can make use of 1000+.
How many of the 3590s and what size tent/grow area?

Absolutely. That much light is approaching photo-inhibition levels.

Sounds like you've got some good gear on deck! Man, I really NEED to pop some beans and get some different genetics in my line-up. Next on my list is some Ice Bomb and/or Cluster Bomb. A bit more plebeian than Bhodi, but I have high hopes! Which strains you running?

Oh, and it's cool that you got the little lady growing! My wife has become essential to my operation!
