The plants don't start to stink really bad until about week 4 flower. You might not need the cabon filter until then. All my plants in flower at different ages because I grow perpetual with the separate veg area like I was talking about. So I always have a few plants at their stinkiest point in flower. But I don't think you have to worry about "saving" your fan. Those things are designed to run continuously for years. By the time it breaks you will have earned so much money growing you can buy 50 new ones to replace it.

I have a feeling once you finish you're first grow you won't want that to be the end of it. Setting up the grow for the first time is the hard part. Keeping it going perpetually after that is much easier. You'll realize any expenses incurred have been repaid many times over. Plus I guarantee after growing one strain you will want to try as many more as you can. That's how I felt and still feel. I've done 14 strains so far.

damn 14 strands, thats alot. Which one has been the best? I am still undecided on a reliable seedbank and strand so i could definitely use some advice there. And do any of the seedbanks you've used


FUUU&*!KKK just clicked over and my on sale grow tent is out of stock. I was gonna order tomorrow or friday too. Fu*k me. Now i gotta shop for a damn good deal on a grow tent again. I think i might consider a darkroom 60 again (24 inch w by 24 inch d by 55 inch H) but whata bitch.

If you are using a closet, what is the purpose of the tent? I have heard various problems with tents so make sure you get a quality one. Some aren't light proof and others have materials that will actually leech chemicals under the hot HPS light and kill your plants. If you want my personal opinion on strains I would say BC Roadkill from Cannacopia for sure. Best value you're gonna find for genetics at an online seedbank period. $35 for ten seeds. That is ridiculous considering how quality the genetics are. It has everything you could want in a strain - healthy and vigorous growth, above average yield, dense buds, nice potency and effect, killer smell and flavor, bag appeal like a mutha, and no herm tendency whatsoever. Being a new grower there is about 100% chance you will put your plants through one type of stress or another. Some strains will sprout male pistils on female plants in response to stress. This is very not good because you will pollinate every plant in the grow and decrease the quality of bud. So low herm tendency is at the top of my list of desirable traits and the Roadkill is one of the most solid strains I've worked with. The other most desirable traits for me are smell, flavor, and potency. This bud is super dank old musty basement smoke. If you've had the type before you will know what I'm talking about. Leaves a very strong mothball type smell in the air but there is a hint of smoked meat to the flavor that is amazing. Only negative is the seeds are not available at me seedbank of choice - The Attitude. And that's really the only strain I would recommend at this point. It has been so much better than all the others. The Bubba Kush from the same breeder is very good as well but yields a lot less. The pic that is currently my avatar is the Bubba Kush. But you won't be disapointed with the Roadkill.

No, not brainwreck. It's BC Roadkill. Why do you want feminized seeds? Can't bring yourself to kill a plant? Having a 50/50 male/female ratio is actually great for growing IMO. Plants will roughly double their size in flower (some strains more, some less). So if you veg your plants until they fill the space there will be no room left in flower when they get even bigger. If you remove half of them because they are males you will have the proper spacing for good light penetration which equals fatter buds. Plus the factor of hermies that I was talking about before comes into play. Feminized seeds have a much higher tendency to sprout pollen sacs and ruin your whole grow. Feminized seeds are actually made from hermie pollen.

sorry BC Roadkill. I was looking as some brainwreck seeds right before i wrote that post (and may have been under the influence of a marijuana cigarette at the time).

I was considering feminized seeds because it would take the sexing out of growing. When you don't use clones how do you make sure the plants are female? Do you set them in 12 by 12 for a week or two them bring them back once they show their privates? Do you have some sort of method? It would prob be real tough for me to pull a plant after a month but i guess thats what i gotta do.

Also I am reconsidering my lights a little bit. Which one do you this is a better bang for my buck? The Floralux ( http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=49255 ) or the standard HPS from HTG ( http://www.htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=53025 ). The Floralux cost 95 dollars and if i decide to buy that one, I will be purchasing the AgroMax Lamp/bulb with it. They are said to have "30% more blue light" which should be pretty beneficial during the vegging stage. But this does bring the total for the Floralux to 107. The HTGsupply light is your very standard 150 watt HPS and I dont think the AgroMax bulb/lamp is the right size for it. Can't be anything wrong with the light and it only cost 70 dollars. This 40 dollar difference (including shipping) is a big deal to me. Got anymore advice in the bag for me Mared? hahaha

Tomorrow is Pay-Day for this guy and I will have amassed $480 in savings for this investment. I plan to pick up my check, and take it to the bank with the rest of the cash and buy a pre-paid credit card and put about $440-450 on it. I will then place my order with HTGsupply.com for the:

I will buy all the odds and ends, planning growing in hempy buckets and use fox farms in grow in a handful of weeks due to visiting family.

This set up ran me a bucks shy of $600 and I still need to the get fox farms, vermiculite and perlite, and probably go with rapid rooters for initial germination. Going to just use bag seed to get my feet wet. Im planning on 4 plants and praying for about 2oz a plant.

p.s. how do you order at hemp depot? looks like they only take cash and money order?

Mared Juwan that BC Roadkill looks like some kill but anyway i had a question for you if you dont mind answering you said in week 4 of flowering the smell gets bad, how bad would that smell get with just one plant?

holy shit thats expensive hempyfan. thats a pretty penny. but congrats, it sounds like your in the same place i am. 400 watt hps/mh is a good investment as well is all of that stuff. You can get the fox farm stuff (Fox farm ocean forest, fox farm nutrients trio) all for around 70 bucks at your local nursery. I only plan to use perlite with it too for penetration.

p.s. from what i've seen, u'll def get 2 ounces with that kind of equipment.

For the guy who got the htg kit I hope your luck is way better than mine with it. IMO that magnetic ballast that comes with it is shit. If you read the fine print it is a rebuilt unit that they make themselves. Mine stopped working less than two months after I bought it. They said they were willing to replace it but WTF, am I supposed to have my plants under a couple CFLs while I wait at least a week for them to ship it? So I bought a Lumatek digital ballast. Night and day difference. The ballast runs way quieter and cooler and the light is more even with less flickering. Plus it has lasted over 16 months now with no problems. LOWNskater, you can get away with a cheap hood/reflector for your light but make sure your ballast and bulb are high quality. This is the bread and butter of your grow. As far as Hemp Depot, that is correct, they only take cash or money order. How were you planning on paying? I wouldn't use your credit card or anything like that. You pretty much have to trust that the seedbank will come through for you. That's why for the first time I would keep my order pretty small. Don't spend more money than you are prepared to lose. It's a gamble no matter where you buy from.

RealistG, the smell depends a lot on the strain. I grew some Nirvana stuff when I was first starting out that didn't hardly smell at all. That's great when it's growing but when it comes time to smoke that shit was bland and disappointing. If you're gonna grow I say get the stinkiest stuff you can find. It's always the best. If you only have one plant and it isn't humongous you should be able to get away with air fresheners and the like.

Thanks for the info on the ballast. I realized I was getting a rebuilt ballast but am hoping for the best, actually I didnt know it was a rebuilt but I figured it was about that in quality due to the price. I pretty much consider all this a giant experiment and if it goes well and if im able to do it I will likely try a slightly larger set up in the future but will accumulate the pieces bit by bit. I plan on learning this for about two years so im really hoping the ballast will last. If I was just buying a light, which was my original intent, I would of went with a digital ballast and better reflector but then I decided that was insufficient and had to make compromises due to money. Lots of good positive vibes going into it so im hopeful.

Im pretty excited about the future of the lcd lighting as well. I am hoping they will be cheaper and improved by the time I need new lights, knock on wood like product. Thanks again for the info and the time.

Got paid today and went straight to the bank and bought a pre-paid Visa gift/credit card with $420 on it. (ironic ?) I also put aside another 60 bucks on my credit card for the seeds. Monday I plan to place my order with The Attitude for $60. That includes 5 seeds of Bing Bang, 1 extra Dinafem California Hash Plant Seed, and a Guarantee that if my purchase doesn't make it for any reason they will send it again. Is this the right choice Mared? I could avoid the guarantee and I could get ten seeds AND they would package the seeds in a super stealth way. Which one do you think is better?

That may very well be the case that they have corrected the problems with the ballasts. I really hope that is true. I bought mine in Feb '08. But I'm still not sure why you're spending money on a tent when you have a closet. Forget the tent and get a stronger light IMO. 150 watts is for like one or two plants at the most.

If you're gonna buy Green House then I should mention that I am growing 5 Green House strains for the first time right now. I'm at week 7 flower and hitting the home stretch with them. I don't have Big Bang but the Great White Shark is a definite winner. You can check out the last few pages of my journal (link in my sig) to see them. The White Rhino and Trainwreck look real good too. But if you're gonna go with one Green House strain I would have to recommend the Great White Shark.

my main goal is to get rid of the smell. My apartment has cinder block walls for everything so unless i get the most badass saw in the world i am not gonna be able to vent to the outside. I am gonna keep the stank air in the tent and filter it out into my closet. I will be keeping my closet open when i am home and closed when i am not. The cinder blocks stay pretty cold almost all the time so i am hoping that'll help. Also if those bitches from the office do get in my closet somehow it will look somewhat inconspicuous. I really don't wanna get in trouble. I'll throw some cfls in there later on prob for good measure, get about 9000-10000 lumens to each plant. 2 plants is gonna be enough for me. This is strictly a personal grow and I am realistically hoping to get anywhere from an 3/4 to 1 and 1/2 ounces per plant if i am on my A game. That would be plenty to tide me over till the next harvest.

What do you think is the better deal at The Attitude? Should I get the 5 seeds (with 1 extra badass seed), shipped super stealth, with the T shirt and guarantee or should I get the 10 seeds (with 2 extra badass seeds), shipped in a super stealth way?
