Allergy like symptoms while trimming

I just realized this is real. I never used to have allergies. I even brought it up to my doctor. Now that I know, I can take an allergy pill when I trim or spend a lot of time around the girls. It's probably a sign of potent weed too. :blsmoke:

again, just supposition on my part, but i'd guess that what you're having a reaction to is some of the more volatile substances in the plant, more than likely some of the terpenes that make them smell. i'd be interested if anyone has noticed that its lemony smelling weed that does this, or floral smelling...or w/e, wonder if its a particular substance that everyone reacts to or if there are different things that effect different people?
The smell that seems to get me during a harvest/trim session is the smell of a vegging plant but 10x stronger which makes me assume it's nothing to do with the calyxs, its mostly cutting into fresh leaves that sets me off.

You guys ever have an odor left behind in your nose after trimming a fresh plant? That's the smell that fucks me up but only if im around it too long.

I posted here in 2017 that it only effects my nose but now i get pretty fucked up for some reason which is why i ended up back here, Napsalot said fresh weed is histaminic so that might make sense.

These plants are related to nettles. If you are sensitive it helps to take a Benadryl prior to trimming.

Not sure why it's controversial but I'm just about to take a Benadryl right now and I won't start trimming until it kicks in. It's difficult for me without it, plus I've got a little bit of a head cold anyway so yeah its the only way to trim for me. I often have a reaction even if I'm just trying to see the trichomes

Do you trim wet or dry?

I was also curious about this. I do have allergies but I had no idea trimming would make my throat swell up, itchy eyes, dizziness. But now I know for next time. Also I'll definitely be getting an air scrubber with a good extraction fan. Even my dog has been showing symptoms. Good to know I'm not overreacting.

Yes! You are getting hives from the plant, it happens to me. Always wear gloves when trimming or touching your plants. Try taking some flonase when you trim, available over the counter, be sure to start taking it a few days b4 harvest as it takes some time to work.
If you do get hives some benadryl spray or hydrocortisone cream will take care of it.
I'm an RN.

I have several allergies including food allergies but not so with Cannabis. However, trimming or even handling some plants releases terps and some seem extremely volatile and will make my eyes water and burn. Goes away as soon as I leave the room.

Nitrile gloves have been a friend around the house.
