...All Things Vero...

Would you consider buying a VERO after reading through some of the posts?

It's not recommended to run in parallel, but from my experience, it will be fine. The lights I bought a while back have 4 china made bridgelux COB's (not Vero) with with 2 cen-100-36 meanwell drivers. I just took out one of the drivers and hooked up all for in parallel. The forward voltage is within .05 of each other. Now I have some drivers to play with, just need to order a couple chips.

how will you manage potential runaway ?
i said at about 2.2 amps (~) it depends on cob resistance..
and if accidently one cob fails, theres 3a fuse for each one, u can barelly see them in picture (on the sides of the driver)
few weeks ago i tried running 2 x "cree xml 100w cob) on 100w driver or xpl, i dunno.. in parallel for about 3 weeks without a problem.. so i should be fine even if one will be running at 2.6 and other at 1.8.

maybe i should put 1 or 2ohm resistors on each of them ?

I think your being greedy trying to max everything out. you could have used the HLG-185H-48 and run them at 3.9V, all around fits in the specs better for failure conditions.

nonetheless I'd love to see if it works 99.99% reliable.

good luck, fry an egg!

So I'm building a small grow box and going to use either 1 vero29 running on a CEN-100-42 which would allow me to dial it down. Would this driver run 2 vero29s?

This is the spec sheet

I'm thinking I could run 2 at lower power which would mean less heat and better spread? Not sure if it works that easy though lol

It would run 1 Vero 29 OK, but not 2. Vero 29's run at around 38 volts in the amp range of this driver, and the driver voltage range maxes out at 42v, so it can handle only 1 Vero 29.

Yeh that's what I was thinking, is there a driver that would run 2 that's dimmable? Or should I just stick with 1 vero 29 with this driver? Would think it'll be fine for the space. Will only be doing 1 plant

How much is the driver you are looking at? I use a HLG-120H-C1050B from Mean Well that will run 4 Vero 29s, and you could just run 2 Veros on it if you wanted, but the driver runs around $60. It maxes out at 1.05 amps so it would drive the Veros softer. As long as your single plant isn't some 6 foot tall tree I think 1 Vero 29 driven hard at up to 2.28 amps will be plenty of light for 1 plant, but would be less efficient than 2 cobs run softer.

It'll only be a little auto to begin with to test things out. It's either a vero or cxa3070 but leaning towards vero atm

hello rosswaa,

try the RACD 150 1050 :P
Pricey for a single cob,
Think I might get a cxa3070 and the cen-100-42 simply because I can get them both from the same place and don't have to pay stupid prices for shipping

Anyone know what the equivalent recom driver is to the cen-100-42? Digikey stock recom but not meanwells :( would rather a vero tbh

whats your target drive current dude?
It is pricey, but you have headroom, I (and I expect most others will agree with me on this..) expect you will soon be looking to buy more cobs :P
I don't think you can run 1 cob of the racd 150 btw, at least 2.
