I found the culprit tonight for why the ballast went bad. It was a blown timer. I was looking for a timer to flip the COB tent in a few days. And this is why I buy Hortilux, if something happens they take care of it. I LOVE my 1K platinum ballast from them and their bulbs. The LED's are impressing for sure, but HID still works. Better to use (2) Bulbs already on hand and been paid for and run a 5x9 like that for as long as I can/want to than struggle without the space because I can't buy QB's right LOL.........

One thing I have learned growing so far, on here and another forum........the better growers can grow dank regardless of light source. And the lights make more of a difference for those guys than those of us newer guys like me. There's plenty of guys over in the 600 club thread and the 315 LEC thread, and others not using LED's who have my utmost respect for what they do. I'm not knocking LED and not trying to start the HID/LED war in my thread lol, there's plenty of other spaces for that. I'm doing what I have to brother, so I can expand and later get the lights sorted out, because at the end of the day right now what I have available to use can still grow weed. :bigjoint: If not it's on me not the lights lol.

And FYI, the return cost me $0. I paid no shipping for the new or old in any direction. Hortilux is top notch. The delays I had with this CS issue is because a lot of the team has been away for training.

You're still in the dark until your replacement arrives.

Horti Platinum ballast is definitely top of the line.

In the dark? ?I don't even have the tent yet lol. I started the preparations ahead of time so when the other tent arrives I can get it up and running the same day. The 600 has been down since the QB's and COB's arrived. I had no use for it so hadn't sent it in for the swap yet. Only thing in the dark with my grow right now is the buds curing in the jars and bucket :bigjoint:

I love the Platinum ballast and it runs cooler than the 600's, wish they would have made a 600 Platinum but oh well. I am waiting for one more "bulb" to test when they finally make the "Ceramic HPS" available. Still not able to order it. I was told "soon" by the rep lol.

And last but not least the (2) GG#4 girls in the COB tent. I am waiting for the smaller girl to grow a few more inches but these gals are dying for me to flip the lights already.

I got my blown 600 watt ballast out to Hortilux today. The local shop said they had already sent the rerplacement ahead of time, hoping in a day or so it will be here. I should have more Tupur arriving tomorrow. Then just waiting on my Gorilla tent to arrive and I have what I need to set it up. Then we will start having some real fun. Can't wait to see the spread on these Raptor hoods vs my old Daystars. If the HID talk bothers you guys I will leave it out of this thread but it's part of my grow. I will be putting back up the 600 watt Blue MH and the 1K watt Super HPS. It's a cost decision and honestly I am looking forward to having the HID's and the LED's running at the same time to see what's what.

What the hell is the hold up on that horti "CPS" bulb?......... feels like forever since it was announced.

Thank God their not in the led game; )...... late to market doesn't bode well.

Actually with this room in the basement everything has been cool so far a bit too cool at times so will be interesting in the winter. I am concerned of lack of heat with the led tents in the winter will see. Hopefully the 5x9 with the hids will keep it warm ............

Ok guys update for this morning. Today everyone was fed/watered again. Ionic Grow 4tsp/gallon, Cal-Mag+ 5ml/gallon, Ful-Power 20ml/gallon, and Hydro Guard 2ml/gallon. EC 1.8 and PH 6.0 I also sprayed everyone down tonight with some Capt Jacks Deadbug. Just part of my IPM.

That ballast is a true low frequency square wave unit... Which will happily drive the Philips 860W CDM lamp. I've done it and it works great!

No waiting required, the right lamp already exists. The only drawback is that it's vertical only, base up or down.

Are you saying the 860 should be equivalent to the yet to be released 600w Ceramic HPS? I'm not trying to be argumentative I am asking genuinely for learning. :hump:

You aren't the only one who's been waiting forever for this 'ceramic HPS'. I'm just saying that the 860W CDM lamp exists now and will work very well with your ballast.

Since the ballast will drive it at 1000W it should be more than equivalent to the 600W lamp.

Remember that your digital low frequency square wave Hortilux Platinum ballast is exactly the same technology that makes the 315W CMH so efficient, and so it will boost the effective output and therefore the efficiency of the 860W lamp in a similar way.

Hmmmmm.........this gives much to think about............maybe hang one vertical between the 600 and the 1K.............

Also what do you think if I run the COB's with the 600 and 1K I have in the 5x9? That's another idea I was toying with............

I haven't run COB LED with HID so I can't say for sure, but you may find that the plants will prefer the COB light over HPS.
