I've never grown food crops indoors, it does interest me. I may setup a rack or just a little lettuce table with a few strips. The PPFD needed is super low so its only a few strips. Not rocking any side by side tho.

Super mario has a few other test. They look pretty good to me. Especially since he's more of a plug and play reviewer vs what could be made DIY.
Hey bro, just curious if you ever did set anything up to test food crops under led and what you found?
Nice informative vids you've been putting up on the tube :peace:

Have you seen all the Apogee videos? The most recent one, addressing some "cannabis lighting myths" is interesting (they all are). He's also done some with Shane from Migro, and Shane has done other lighting discussion interviews with "lighting specialists" or people who've studied various lighting and horticulture aspects.
I really like that Apogee (and Bruce) are providing some cannabis specific information, from studies actually done on the plant.

I follow them both very closely. Shame on Bruce for taking this long to start letting the cat out of the bag on LED being spectrally deficient in most cases.
He sure let that Red/Blue concept ride for a long time while the Chinese picked so many new growers pockets with Light Bright dreams :peace:

I have not setup any food crop. Just cannabis in my room.

I'll keep an eye on that one. Looks like the typical "micro" lettuce that keeps turning up under LED's.
Let's see what he can do when he replants and spaces them out more as stated in the comments.

Grow them like this over here :hump:

plants are looking good man. sorry meant to keep you updated, but neglected my plants for a while. left them in solo cups for about a month, but just transplanted about ten days ago and things are going well now. trimmed them up yesterday and got two full gallon zip lock bags for now. plan on just harvesting as I run out and see how they keep up.

So I have no dog in the lighting discussion between the types of lighting. I have only grown indoors under led lighting and have been lucky enough to have had found this forum before spending a lot of money on "lesser" leds so I am perfectly content with what I have for now, but still enjoy seeing and learning about any kind/style of growing.

That said, I planted some blue kale, bloomsdale spinach and red kale around 5 days ago. The plants are under two 3000k v1 qbs in a 2x2x4ft tent. The boards are wired to an xlg-100 and are dimmed down to about 50 watts at the moment. Everything is still sprouting and getting settled in the organic soil, but will be primarily tap water with an occasional tea of some sort if needed. Each container has 3 of the greens and random cover crops(clover/fenugreek/chamomile) sprinkled throughout. Kale seeds are tiny so I may have dropped more than 1 seed in a couple holes, but should work out just fine. Also, looks like a random melon seed of some sort popped up in the corner of the bottom bin, I assume it came via the fresh castings I added from my worm bin before planting.

I'm excited to grow my own greens again as the produce in my store hasn't been top notch lately and this way I know it's a true organic end result. Hope you all are doing well though and we can get to see some healthy plants growing here.

Yoooo!!! WAZUP lettuce Lovers.
Onehit sent me the seeds n we're off. Testing x3 led spectrums vs his T'-5's for semi-scientific lighting results.
Bare with me pls. First time growing anything but pott & have been down for 2 wks. Feeling better now , thank You God!!!!!
Everything looks at least due for transplant I think. Most are in 16oz cups. Boy do they root though. All organic using Grean Bicycles Ammendment. They only get pure un-ph'd, bubbled, tap water.
Gotta get a grip before they take over my veg room ect.. SMH!

100 agreed with spectrum being somewhere in the middle.
Although i continue to have success with the Elite 96's as for plant health or lacking common defficencies i seam to struggle with. Which is weird but its true. Maybe the smaller light points? Plant under it now receives over 2000 umols in places with no negative effects. Idk?!
Figured it out. The Art of Diffusion.
A lens frosted up on me so i took it off. That section of the plant went south quick. Far down too. The rest had covers & did much better. If they were all frosted the desired results would be even easier to obtain.

Is it possible that maybe the plant just grew and adapted to its surroundings of the light being delivered through the frosted lens and when you removed it, you unnaturally altered its enviornment?

Glad you on the up and up though sir and the lettuce is looking good.

No, was off since the start this time. Was planning on compounding it clear like a headlight until i saw that. Now i am seeking a way to get all x4 covers 70% frosted.
Studies show a 5-7% light loss leading to a 20-30% higher yield & much healthier plants.
My accidental run in with the bare doides on those changed everything.
Absolutely Nothing to do with PAR levels either.
Found this & several other old studies (mostly Greenhouse related) describing in detail how the photons engulf the targeted area (canopy) with a soft LoveGlove, all warm n wet. Whereas the diodes peirce the plant with their painful mini lasers as it would seam. Been tinkering with spectral shifting possibilities due to diffusion as well. Have noticed that on some of my past fixtures.
This must be why i have ALWAYS had issues running Raw-Dawg.
EDITTED: Already, this year, i promise you all see an influx in covered doides, whether, frosted or clear. Any cover is better then none.

You make a good point about diffusion. Your bare 96 revealed a unique situation. Those 96's are like cobs. I wonder what the outcome would be with a different cultivar, or if the pcb boards were larger dimensions?

First off - for those who do not know what is going on here, brother @hybridway2 has been kind enough to engage the LED:Lettuce issue and take the time to help unravel the spectrum issue with trying to take lettuce past the Bonsai state under led lighting.
He is dedicating some valuable resources to answer the call for experimentation on finding a true "Horticultural Lighting" in the led realm and I thank him deeply for taking the time to do this.
What we have going here is a challenge from myself to hybridway2 to grow the exact same variety of lettuce from seed under any led's of his choice against me using T5's. I provided the pack of seeds and we both germinated on the same day. It's not really a race by any means but rather to see the SIZE and SHAPE of the heads and leaves once we decide to harvest.
In my experimenting with the led equipment I have managed to get my hands on the leaves never seem to get quite as large as Sun Grown or MH or even T5 as I have been experiencing lately. I am firmly of the belief that Far Red is one of the critical NM playing a factor in this. As well as possibly "diffusion" as hybrid as been alluding to in recent postings.

So here we on the 10th of May and hybrids plants are in the post above - here are mine under T5 since the beginning :hump:

Not in the challenge, but so tempted to sneak in and slice off those lowers and go make a salad or something. I would leave you guys the growing crowns, and come back next week for another sneaky harvest.

Are you guys doing a pheno hunt? Taste test?

Hey folks! Quick up-date on my led Letti experiment. OHD was very right about white leds so i made a slight change to the spotlights + Stoplight set-up by adding 9w of diffused Purple bulbs from HD. They do not include wavelengths needed to assist i don't think. But what the heck. I feel they helped increase the size of the leaves a little.
The spectrum doing the best IMO is the Amare Monos & i recently kicked on the uvb full time. Unfortunately i ran out of the right soil by planting the outside letti fist & the Amare plants are stuck in small potts for now. X2 of them are in 1 gall. Though. Same with the HGL letti.
But the Spot-lights (last week switched the 3k center bukb for this funky led winged thing from WallyWorld) are all in one gall.
Hopefully i csn transplant the ones that need it soon.

Tan out of the Grean Bicycles soil n only option late in the day was the Vegan Soil Coco crap that prob needs nutes. Do 50/50 on the x2 soils.

Let's see some measuring stick next to the indoor lettuce plants homie...
Looking good over there and you appear to be leading the pack of led lettuce attempts, aside form myself of course
