Air purifier and Ionizer purchase

Hey guys just went over to the Target and I picked up a couple of sweet items. One was a Holmes Air purifier w/ HEPA filter and it has a Optional Ionizer that you can turn on and off, it is three speed. The wife and I hooked it up in like 3 minutes and within an hour the smell/scent was totally different. I highly recommend it & it was like $70.00 and also picked up a 3 speed Honeywell Tower Fan they had on sale for $25.

Hey do you guys know is HEPA the same as carbon filtration? Im pretty sure it has some sort of carbon filtration, but is it as effective or the same as the duct fan carbon filters? I have one of those holmes HEPA units as well.

HEPA and carbon filters are different, carbon filters use activated carbon to adsorb ions in the air, they will also remove some particulates
HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters remove particulates in the air down to approximately 2 micrometers in diameter (depending on how efficient that one in particular is) but not ions
a combination is probably the best way to go
