Air movement

Most commercial vented hoods have 6" outlets. Do you just run 6" in lines or step it up to get more air through? My question is does anyone have a magical formula for ideal exhaust rates.. Ie if my fan pulls 250 CF an hour and I have say a 500 CF room is it not ideal to only clear the whole room in two hours?

Would you recommend clearing the room twice an hour? Even more? I'm not running CO2 but for smell reasons the room is somewhat sealed. I'm just trying to avoid any smell leaking out with back pressure, I want a constant draw on the door to avoid for lack of a better term queefing.

Any insight on your setup would be appreciated thanks!

You want your filter rated slightly higher than your fan, but in your case 250 is a little on the small side. The reason is cause if you have to small of a filter and run to high of a CFM through it, the odor reduction won't work as it doesn't' have time to pass through the carbon. If you have a to high CFM fan and a smaller filter you can always run a speed controller but then you shorten the life of your fan so like I said it's better to have a higher carbon filter CFM rating then fan CFM rating.

Hope this makes sense, I'm a big butt stonked.

My filter is a Presh filter 550CFM pulled with a 475CFM hurricane fan.

Room air exchange should happen every 3-5 minutes for optimal ventilation. 500cf/ 5 mins = 100cfm fan would be needed.

Is your fan rated in CU. FT/hr(cfh)? Most are rated in Cu. Ft/ min (CFM). You could run it at 50% if it's CFM and be good.

I'm trying to figure out what you're talking about..you read CF as carbon filter..didn't you..it's cubic feet..lol. Most filters have min/max ratings on them, you need appx .1sec contact time for carbon to work. Speed controllers won't effect a fan that is designed to be used with one.

Well yes CF can mean cubic feet or it can be shorthand of carbon filter, and as true as that maybe I've had a fan shit out on me that was designed for a controller, there is no set thing for anyone honestly. If it works then great, if not fix it.

But yea that's why I said hope it makes sense....
