Air cooled hoods or A/C?

What are you guys doing who are growing in the Phoenix area?

I'm building out a new 12x18 room for 4000watts and was thinking about going with a sealed system and a 14.000btu dual exhaust a/c or maybe a window unit if needed. There is also a central a/c.

Any of you running a sealed room here?

At 4 k with a ventilated room it's going to use a lot of the central ac during summer and your ac will be running a lot, my electric bill got up over 700 last summer with 2600 watts. I plan on building a 4k room pretty soon also and I'm probably going to go with a window ac, putting a wall over the closet and mounting it in there.

Air cooled hoods would be a MUST... Summers are killer...

Toss the window unit and use the 14k beast...

12x18 seems pretty big for 4000 watts. Mj plants can take up to 100watts sqft. 50 watts is good. You'd only have 18sqft.

I say run both.

Also 5000btu of a/c per 1000 watts is a good rule of thumb

14000 btu is way to small for 4000 watts ur ac will never get a break i use a 25000 btu and still wish i had gottin bigger i run 4000 watts also with aircooled hoods

How about a small evaporation cooler? Are you set up for one? If not try mounting a small one in a window, in the attic would be the regular duct work for the ac vent. You could open the duct and block off the incoming side of the duct leaving the side going into your room open. This way the air being blown into the window would escape into the attic, also you could add a scrubber up there to mask any smell. Humidity, cool air, low cost. It works, lol

Air cooled hoods all the way you can control the room temps easy as long as you have a powerful fan.. Something over 600 CFM or two.

Damn. I was afraid of these replies. I was really wanting to use those Adjust a Wings in this room but I was afraid that the central AC and Portable wouldn't be enough.

Fucking HPS lights.

*waits patiently for LED to finally get its shit together or Induction lamps to arrive*

You can but you will be costing yourself like 5 times more the amount in electricity bills. The portable AC and the Central AC running for long hours will get super expensive.. A couple hoods will be about 400.

Thats what I do Fire, but seriously in the summer it does no good when outside temps are 90 degrees..lol you need something pulling that hot air
So where are you pulling your fresh air from? Last summer the attic air was 95 and the outside was 110. So I just pulled air from the inside of the house that had been cooled and vented into the attic. Doing the same now but looking to go sealed but not if its gonna cost me 2x as much in electric. Fuck that.

My hoods suck and I need to get some Raptors or something big. I liked the idea of the Adjust a Wings but heat would be a killer.

Same thing you do.. I pull it from a bedroom closet ( nice 6 inch hole in the wall) and exhaust it into the attic.. A good fan will really keep temps down.. I can pretty much put my hand under the glass on my hood and not get burnt.. With the AC on my top canopy is always 75-78 degrees.. AC off and cool weather the canopy is about 73 degrees.

How many watts are we talkin? Im about to expand to 6k soon but im doing an experiment with T5's and aquarium bulbs before making that jump to see if they can measure up to HPS when using a custom PAR spectrum. It's looking good so far and I might be just hanging 6 8 bulb badboy fixtures over 16 plants soon and calling it a day. I think that will be cooler still than 4 1000 hps bulbs goin.

T5's dont put out much heat. I only run one 1000W but 6 air cooled hoods can be done.. 2 rows of 3 hoods with maybe something like a 1000 CFM fan cooling each row of 3 lights.

i have one 6 inch fan pushing through two hoods, but there only set to 600 each right now. thinking about getting an 8 inch soon. will need it for sure before summer.

Yeah you can probably get away withs omething like a 675 CFM to cool 2 1000's.. I have a 8'' Max fan 675 CFM overkill for my 1000W but I was thinking down the road when I would want to use 2 1000W like I plant to next grow.
