Afghan Kush Buds, trim, Ice-Hash

So after some reading on extracts and concentrates i decided to get myself a set of Bubble Bags and see what kinda quality Ice Hash i could possibly come up with.

I have made only very small quantities of Ice Hash before using just some trim and a Coffee Filter to work with and i was curious to make some more good Hash on a Lerger scale.

So i figured i may as well start with 1 Whole plant however when it came to Harvest time i decided to keep the Top Cola and the Decent Buds and just use the Trim and the Popcorn buds from my Afghan Kush so i get more of an idea on what i am doing before doing a Bunch.

Here's a few pictures of the Afghan Kush before Harvest..

And here's a pic of the Fresh Trim and Popcorn Buds..

2013-03-24 21.08.51.jpg... that Lot was 40g and went into the freezer for 24 hrs.

Then i got my Bubble bags and Ice out and made some Hash, sorry the pictures ain't very good quality for you to see but you can tell the differences in Micron Grades. It is only a small amount as a trial run but it showed me what is acheiveable with Bubble Bags.
Here's a couple of pics of the Hashes from the Afghan Kush..

These were the 3 best Grades..

I've been making ice water hash for about a year. I got the 5 gal bags just because it's what was available at my local dis. but ya can get 1 gal bags also.

I've done it the way that sub cool does pouring the water from one bag to an other but it's too messy. I put the bags one inside the other and just pull them out one at a time. I have a cordless drill and a paint mixer that I use to agitate the water, ice and weed for 30 min.

My last batch I used 6 oz weed and got 30 grams of hash. Really good hash. I'm not sure if this will help or not if I can help with any other question I would be happy to. Good luck

BTW your plants look real nice good job.

The red hash looks great! Good job! Look into proper drying of bubble hash. First batch I made I was so proud of, and jarred it up right away, told all my friends to let there stash go dry, I had a surprise; and then it all molded up in the jar, it happened so fast it blew my mind! When I bought my first 5 gal bubble bags it didn't come with a drying screen and I was not going to pay an extra 15 bucks for the screen, plus 15 bucks for shipping, big mistake. My new smaller 1 gal bags I got came with a free drying screen, which I am using right now on a different method of hash making.

One thing I regret, with my old bubble bags and my new bubble bags, 90 micron screen for sativas. I'll get it next time though!

Some tips for you my friend! Besides taking extra extra extra special care to properly dry out and store your hash, make sure with your next run that your chop up all your buds! I remember the first time I made hash with flowers, I used a lot! I was so excited, but when I saw my yield I nearly shit, it was pathetic! Quality was fantastic, just as expected, but yield was shit. You can compare flowers and trim to crumbled wads of paper and confetti. So with our flowers, the plant material itself is protecting the trichomes, so you need to break it up to get into all the little nooks and crannies. If you didn't do it last time, you can still pull the wet nugs out of the work bag, break them up, and run them again on your next run.

As far as the wet/frozen trim v dry trim debate, it really doesn't matter. Dry trim can leave more green material if you don't let it soak before stirring, at the same time it requires less agitation. Wet trim is more work, imo. Because after the hash is extracted, it now has to cure. I usually slow dry and cure my trim, since it's an easy thing to do with a paper bag, so my hash is usually as potent as possible. I've also heard curing doesn't matter with hash, the cold temperature does something to break down the acids, but I haven't seen any evidence yet. I've also heard people stressing the importance of decarbing hash material, and this is what I'm most unsure about. It's all worth taking a look into since you're in the middle of your little science project right now.

That's all I can really think of. Bubble bags beat the shit out of gumby hash. Have you ever looked into dry ice hash? It's a super fast super easy way to bust out a whole bunch of kief, but can come out green if you aren't careful, you can find that on youtube. I just found out that you can rinse your dry ice hash off in your 25 micron bag to get rid of all the green silky stuff and just get more sticky brown kief. I like the dry ice method the most to make cooking hash. I prefer bubble or bho for smoking.

This lot i just scraped onto the 25 micron drying screen and left it overnight dood, if i had larger amounts i would then Grate it down so it can further cure but as this is such a small batch i have left it untouched now and is in a sealed jar to cure a little. I will now be stocking my freezer with trim and Popcorn and once i have say 4 plants worth i will do my next run.

Hope you try it out dood, good luck.

Thanks man, i actually bought the 1 Gallon Bags from E-bay and recieved a free drying screen with them. It seemed like little work until i realised how difficult it actually was to capture all the Trichomes in each Bag lol. I did one bag inside each other method and also used a cordless drill with a Wooden spoon to agitate (for around 30 mins) the first run.

how long did the afghan kush take to finish blooming from preflower?
Thanks man, the Red Hash, which one? lol.

Oh BTW the one in the bottom right of the 7 Grades picture is actually the Scissor Hash plus a couple of pistils that i collect whilst chopping/preparing.

I am def going to run this again when i save up a few plants worth of Trim and popcorn, when i do i will grate the Hash down after letting it dry overnight, i mean afterall there is not much point in pressing this kinda Hash since you want it loose for easy Schmokin... Right? bongsmilie

My TOP TIP to always have on hand when making Ice Hash id def a Spray bottle full of ice water, that way you can spray onto your bags moving the Trichomes for easier collection.

Lol the red hash would be the top left, and the two middle in the 7 grades picture. To be honest, the scissor hash was one of my favorites by the looks, but it also looked impure, haha, makes perfect sense, who doesn't love scissor hash?

I like that spray bottle tip though, that's a good one! I'll use that one next time. Could have definitely used to while cleaning up my dry ice hash. Your hash, even though a small amount is probably not even close to ready after one night of drying. Properly drying and storing hash can take weeks depending on the method. It'll probably have mold spots on it by tomorrow, even though it feels perfectly dry, it's probably not.

But pressing your hash changes the effects it has on you. As you press it the trichomes break and release their oils. These oils immediately oxidize and turn dark brown or black. The smoke changes a little bit, the effect changes a little bit, but it's up to you boss! Take half, or a small portion at least, and press the shit out of it, press and kneed, leave the rest untouched, and find out which you prefer. Previously, I wouldn't have thought that hash process was complete until it was a black ball on the outside, and amber on the inside, like a cadbury egg (almost easter btw)! Now, when I get that beautiful mars-red hash, I leave it as it is, and much prefer it unpressed.

Still waiting for my New Grace Glass Bong to be delivered and that's when i will be testing these Hashes, it's good that i deliberatly decided to purchase a Glass Bong 'after' making some Hash since it now has time to Cure, still it is an effort to not touch it in the meanwhile. LOL :weed:
