Hey, I have some experience with the AG and I can offer some advice. I started a few plants in one and I would say it is excellent at STARTING plants, but not good for a full life cycle for several reasons.

The main reason it's not a great choice for full term growing is that the tank is too small. At only 3 gallons you will be challenged at keeping the PH ballanced, nutrients at the correct level, and temperature fluctuations in check. The small tank also limits the size of the root ball and does not provide adequate oxygen for good root health. I'm not saying you can't grow a plant to full term in the AG, but it's going to be a daily regimen of water maintenance.

I used the AG for starting seeds and then transplanted to soil when they were 6 inches high and it worked fantastic. When I tried to grow a full plant I had horrible PH and nutrient problems with that tiny tank, so if you do try to do it then good luck and please let me know your secret if you succeed!

BTW-the Turbo Garden Aero is a different product and MUCH better for growing, but it's not the same thing as the AeroGarden:mrgreen:

I have used the AG to start seeds and grow starts two times and it worked beautifully but by four weeks, they had to be transplanted - not a problem, but there was no way they were going all the way in the AG.

Yeah, that's the ticket if you want to use it to grow stash. I started a seed in the AG and one in soil at the same time and the one in the AG grew easily 3X as fast as the one in soil. The water tank is just too small and not enough oxygen to support a full plant tho, so transplant is the only way to go.

you guys have obviously never looked in my gallery...

plenty of people have grown start to finish in the aerogarden, 2-4 plants...

Sure, there will be exceptions. Something autoflowering like lowrider comes to mind or anything that flowers and matures quickly. For the most part tho, once the plant gets more than a few weeks old you will start having PH problems or root rot. You would definitely need to have the pro version cause the basic one doesn't have a 12/12 light cycle too. The pro version is programmable so you can set any setting but the basic just has presets.

Teknique70,

Yea, what should I do when I get to the point when I need to change my settings to 12/12 any tricks for that?

if you dont have the Pro version get a timer and hook the AG to it. set it for the 12/12 on the timer. keep the AG at 24hour lighting so you know the light will be on when the timer turns on. if you do this you will need an air pump or a air stone for the tank. you need the water to be moving at all times, even when its in night mode. so put the AG on a timer and the rest or your gear should be on 24/7. thats how i have mine set up at least.

I will be starting my aerogarden project on Sunday. Hey Vandewalle how did your stuff turn out? I can't find anything that draws a conclusion to your project. I've read every page of info I can on this site about the aerogarden and I can't believe the success everyone has had. Tek, you're a genius. I've toyed with the idea of using one to grow but I was afraid of the height restriction. Even if I can't get a damn thing to grow you guys (and gals, respectively) have made a believer out of me. I will be doing a complete writeup on this with as many details and pictures my bandwith allows. This is my first time growing my own bud and I'm so excited. I'll be starting with some generic schwag seed because I want to know what I'm doing when I plant seeds from the stuff in my avatar. Thanks everyone I don't feel like I'm in over my head anymore.

Before we start. I am sure there are many other ways to grow stash and I am sure that they are all superior in others opinions, but this is what I have to work with so if we could keep it to that I would appreciate it.

First question. Setting? Tomatoes?

Second Question Nutes: Seems like Fox Farm is the one to go with they have a three solution pack. Is this what I am after?

Third pH on water. I am going to start with distilled as pH should be 7 or nuetral, Where do I want to get it for best results and what is suggested for reaching proper pH.

Agin a pH question. Does the pH need to chage as the different stages of growth are achieved or will the Fox Farm Nutes handle that for me?

Thanks I appreciate any help or info. If this works next year I will buy the 200 model and the wife can have the 100 to grow her flipping basil.

Sup Skookum,

When your in the vegitative stage keep the light on 24/7 at about 2" away. When it comes to flowering your gonna want to get a timer. the AG doesnt have 12/12 settings. So what you are going to need to do is buy an airstone, to circulate the water 24/7, and a timer for the AG. hook up only the AG to the timer and set it for 12/12.

Those nutes will be fine. I use the general hydroponics flora but its about the same shit. go easy on the nutes at first.

your gonna want the PH to be at about 5.8-6.2 through the whole grow. get a ph tester to test the PH.

by the way what model do you have?

Got the Aero Grow 100Pro and I planted three days ago. I am using some not half bad street seed for this experiment. Then if it works I get the good ones out.

Planted three plants and I told my wife she could have some basil if it grew from some another of the pods just to keep her interested and not nag.. If this works I will give her the 100 and go buy a 200.

I got lights set at/24/7 on the strawberry setting until I see some green and then I thought I would kick it back to the tomato setting to see how it goes.

I am using their Germ Tab and about a half a teaspoon of Alaskan Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 until my Fox Farm trio gets here and then I will start integrating the FF and get the other crap out of there next week.

So I want to keep a dairy day by say log hereof this first grow and see where it takes me. I am also interested in bonsai pot plamts. I hesrd it can done. That has a serious interst for me.

So without further aduie/

Day 3:

58 hours 24 hour light. Seeds swelling. No growth

Okay. So far 2 out of 3 seeds have germinated. Had to take the Bio Dome or Whatevers off of them as they are tall already. I will check #3 tomorrow. Maybe a slow starter.

And if anyone is interested the Basil is up and so is the thyme

i too am now using the AG...prob is...i pre sprouted in napkin....transplanted into foam/AG..which was all dandy...tossed on the lights...but..the roots are not really growing...on one of 3, the roots have penetrated the foam...and are dangling a bit, the other two have not busted thru with roots. Now...because of lack of roots,..there is lack of nute intake ..which is causing my plants to turn lime green/yellow. I have tried the AG nutes, miracle grow nutes...hydrogen peroxide..for extra o2...yet after 2-3 weeks...no roots, just dying babies.

whats the humidity? and maybe you should chill on the nutes untill they get healyth enough to handle it. when i put clones in my AG i use half doses.

6th day and I am happy to report I have sprouts in all holes and they all look real healthy. In fact I have started to remove domes drom some of the taller ones.

Going to switch to the grow nute tabs tomorrow and take them off 24 light. I will set for the flowers for vegetative stage. Still waiting for Fox Farm to be delivered.

This has promise maybe.

Okay so I made a small mistake. You water and feed every two weeks and not every week. Got to read them pesky instructions. We will see what happens. Still in Germ Stage at 24/24. Won't touch it again until lights start to flash.

Thinking of adding some Alaskan Fish 5-1-1 just for the hell of it. When I lived in Alaska there was no better fertilizer than (1) each stinky old cod per plant to get the real Thunderfuck. Opinions?
