Aerogarden newbie needs help

Hi Guys, Just got an Aerogarden deluxe, bought some lowryder #2 seeds, and now the seeds are laying between 2 wet paper towels in a dark room at an average temp of 75.

Now, here are my questions.

1. Should I use the nutes that came with the aerogarden and their recommended usage (2 tabs) and when should I put the nutes in? As soon as I put the water in before I take the germinated seed and put it in the foam? Which nutes do you guys recommend?

2. Lighting? I have 3 of the CFL's that came with the Aerogarden. Should I use more? Which ones? When should they be applied?

3. Should the room be dark where the aerogarden is? There is some sunlight that comes into the room - not much? Should I cover it to make it pitch dark? How about putting aluminum foil for reflection? Do I use the glossier side that will reflect more or the other side - I heard the glossier side may burn the plant?

4. If I have males and females that grow in the grow pod, do I remove the males after a certain point? Confused about the male/female issue. I'm sure I'll get it resolved soon...

I guess the whole when to put the nutes in and at what points and the lighting seem to be very important.

I appreciate any responses to any of my questions. Thanks again guys and hopefull

Why do all you guys say the same things... Jeeez. I know the information that is helpful are located in the forums/posts but I have SPECIFIC QUESTIONS I want answered by other Aerogardeners after I did my initial research. I'll be honest guys, there's a ton of wasted text in this forum with you guys espousing the beauties of getting the info from postings of other people but what is the point of these forums if hardly anyone actually responds to the actual and current problems faced by aerogardeners like me. You guys just repeat yourselves with this nonsensical practice of telling folks to go look it up. Well, we did look it up and we need MORE HELP and INFO!!!!! I'm so TIRED of hearing that! If someone has a dilemma and needs some additional info, just give it to them and stop this nonsense of telling people to go LOOK IT UP! this is a place to share ideas, strategies and methods, not to restate the obvious.

Don't you think newbs to AG are looking and reading a ton of posts before they start growing. OF COURSE. But in the practice of growing, situations pop up and people need help figuring things out, not stupid and assinine comments about looking it up. WHERE TO LOOK MY SPECIFIC PROBLEMS UP? What? I gotta spend 3 hours looking for 1 piece of information? You guys are nuts... Isn't it just easier to post a thread and have some decent and intelligble responses that other people can learn from as well as opposed to wasting valuable time.

For you pros who are adamant that all and every info possible is in the posts, I have to say, SORRY, YOU ARE WRONG! There are some basic themes and strategies we can all learn from but let's start focusing on specifics and giving answers to folks that need them, without all the GASS you give out about looking it up! You have no idea how tired I am of hearing you guys post - LOOK IT UP - to most of the newbie threads.

Let's change our attitude and think of helping each other out and saving each other some time.

Thanks,

AEROGARDEN GROW SHEET
:leaf: BY "SICC" :leaf:

light hours:

1. 27/0 for seedlings (first 2 weeks)
2. 18/6 for vegging
3. 1212 for flowering

Grow Time:

3-4 weeks vegging
9-12 weeks flowering

Lighting:

Stock AG lights for vegging. ADD additional CLF's DURING VEGGING, Connect a figure 8 cord (found at radio shack, or PS2 cable) to a timer to control light schedual. DAYLIGHT blue spectrum for vegging, and SOFT WHITE, red spectrum for flowering. Mix of two should be placed throughout grow. or you can invest in an HPS/MH to set up, cheaper and better, but either is good

Nutrients:

Stock AG nuet tablets, DO NOT ADD UNTIL THEY ARE ABOUT TWO WEEKS OLD!!!! 2 small tabs every two weeks, 1 big tab every two weeks. Or you can do 1 small tab every week for 8 weeks, last 2 weeks stop using tabs flushing before harvest. Crush one side of the nute tab and pew mix into water that you will be addding into the rez, then wait a day and add the other half, making sure you dont burn any of your plants. Or you can use the Fox Farm line up, they have there own feeding schedule that you cn find online.

Preparation:

Fill to brim of AG, past the "fill to here" marker, use bottle water if you can, or you can buy gallon water jugs at like 5o cents each or somthing, let the water sit out for a day with out the cap on before you add into the AG rez. once in flowering, the plants will triple in size and drink alot of water. Place an Airstone into AG, cover any unused grow spots, blocking any light from reaching the roots. Have a fan to keep rez water at a cool temp, and to strengthen the stem. A thermometer for proper temperature, and a PH tester. paper towel germination. Place seed into a damp paper towel, place that into a zip lick bag, put in a dark cool place and they should crack within two days. Your plants will show sex after you put them into flowering, will show within the first month or about 14 days. Poke hole through the Growing sponge, then cut that in half. once connected to the Timer, the setting on the AG are just for the pump, keep it on Salad Greens to keep the pump on 24/7.

:leaf: END :leaf:

reading the whole thread is the best way to learn, this is a good idea of what go's on, reading an putting it into your owrns words is the best way

TAKE A LOOK AT THAT THEN ,ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE< CALM DOWN MAN SERIOUSLY,JUS CAUSE YOU DIDNT GET YOUR ANSWER RIGHT AWAY DOSNT MEAN YOU NEED TO ATTACK EVERYONE BY DOUBLE POSTING THREADS....IM HERE TO HELP

Stock AG nutes are fine, I wouldn't pop 2 nutes in at the time time really early on in the grow.

Maybe the last nute cycle throw 2 small nutes in there before you flush.

SICC you have any idea how long nutrients stay in the water?

I'm wondering if doing 1 nute/week and flushing every week would work out well?

Well its one small tab every week, so that how long its in the system, flush as many time as you can, i only got to flush like twice, since my grow cab its a lil closet, and my Ag basically sits on ground level, so i can siphon the water out either,

Does it become a nuisance moving your res to and from some place to dump it?

Do you take your plants out when you dump your res out? or do you just siphon it.

I don't know what I'm going to do when I have long ass roots and some tall ass plants and I need to flush.

I've been topping off my res every few days when I see that its below the fill to here line, nothing but jugs of spring water.

yeah, I'm thinking of how to flush it. I think if you have 2 people the better. If not, then you better be in the sink doin' your biz. Does anyone have any answers to the 1st questions on this post?

well my write up answers most of your question, flushibg the rez is better with two people, you need some 1 to hold the plants while you clean the rez, im using the stock AG nutes and they work good, the write up explains on how to add them, but you can look into in fox farm or other hydro nutrients

All of those questions are answered in the

AeroGarden Guide

But, if you want some serious dank, yes you will need extra lights.
