Aerogarden and Tangled Roots

I got 5 plants growing and think I'm going to end up with 3 males from preliminary signs of balls and little white hairs. Now I got to get rid of the males and have some questions.

1) How well do the roots take the untangling since I'm sure some will break.
2) Can I possibly just cut the roots where the tangling starts and end up with plants with short roots that'll grow back.

Thanks

Just cut the plant at the stem,,, The lift up the little pot type thing its in and cut the roots from the bottom and thats it .. cover the holes with something like tape

You can usually untangle them without too much trouble just be gentle and sometimes you have to damage the roots a little bit but they will recover fine if you take your time and are gentle.

Will the dead roots hurt the living roots or will the cut stem stay alive enough to keep the roots going?

I'm thinking I'll just be gentle and untangle but knowing what happens when you cut the stem may be good to know if I want to go that route.

I had the same type of issue when I did 5 in a bubble bucket, I just gently pulled the roots apart and what wouldn't gently pull apart I either tore or cut and everything went just fine. I would not get to crazy though... no machetes...

Did it today and it went fine 90% I'd say untangled when pulling gently then there were the tough ones that I just pulled till they broke. I hope that didn't stress the plants too much. I hear of those hermies and stress so it's a bit concerning.

i dont think its too big of a deal... when people keep mothers in DWC systems they have to keep the top pruned down to size - after so many prunings, you have to also prune the rootball, which is just like pruning the canopy, you just have to cut it down to the size you want it. not sure how stressful that is on the plant - but in any of those types of systems the plants recover pretty fast.
