Aerocloners - Turboklone problems

Looking to dial in the use of old school Turboklone aeroponic cloners

Currently having a few problems ranging to, yellow leaves, Pythium and having no roots but plenty of calluses
See attached for photos of roots and yellowing leaves :(

Beginning stages:
Cuttings dipped in purple clonex then put immediately into aero cloner
PH 5.7, 0.2ec - 2ml pythoff, 10ml DynaGrow Root Stim, 5ml Dynagrow Protekt, 10ml ph down <- water content
it is very hard to maintain PH due to there being no nutes / stabilizers in the res water

After calluses are present:
Upped the PPM / EC to 650/700 or 0.7-0.8ec and PH to 5.8-6
PH 5.7, 0.7ec - 2ml pythoff, 10ml DynaGrow Root Stim, 5ml Dynagrow Protekt, 10ml ph down, 10ml DynaGrow foliar food (general nutrient)
Set up a cycle timer, currently set to 10min on, 25min off hoping to make the clones reach for water/grow roots
Admittingly I've only recently upped the EC and dropped root stim after the calluses are established after reading a few studies


Looking to get some suggestions,

I've lowered the PPFD/umol under the plants to combat yellowing leaves
I've dropped the used of DynaGrow Root Stim as apparently this can inhibit root growth in older clones?

In my opinion you're way over doing it

I use this and have used it for close to a year. All I use is spring water from the supermarket and add in house and garden roots acclurator (don't worry about pH)

Of all clones, maybe one if I'm unlucky won't root properly

Otherwise they all grow massive roots within 2-3 weeks

The main cause of pythium is water temp.

You're not using a heat mat underneath as well are you?

Also no harm in using the purple clonex (I use to as well). But figured with the aeroponics, the sprayers will just wash off the clonex before it's had time to do anything

Just leave it on! Too long off. I leave mine on 24/7 and have about a 99% success rate. That’s just tap water and clonex

I just realised he said that he turns it off.

LEAVE IT ON!! The whole point of aeroponics is that it sprays water at the roots. Turing them off is only killing them

I was running 18c and still getting Pythium

To high temps and to much light, ambient light is enough. I clone with a simple 8w CFL, don't use dome. Use bleach instead of pythoff, it's the same thing. Leave the pump on 24/7 and monitor water temps. Way to high EC for cloning IMO, it only gives nutrients for Pythium to flourish.

More additives is not better. You can use KLN containing IBA-K and NAA but it's in no way needed.

Don't monitor or heat the water. It's in the spare room, so a little colder than room temp

The heat that's generated from the water pump is more than enough to keep it warm

If your water temp is 18c, then it must be from other things that you're doing

Literally just use spring water and leave it on 24-7 and top it up as you need to. I like to add root acceulator but that's cause I already run house and garden

Why would keeping it warm matter when water cloning? Please elaborate, it should be monitored if the pump run 24/7 to NOT raise temps higher than ambient.

He asked me about my set up. In my set up I don't need to monitor it as Ive never run into any issues and I have a 99% success rate

I don't try to keep it warm or cool, I just let it do its own thing

Currently it's set 21.5c, which makes my res temp at 23-24c.
Previously I was treating it like standard dwc hydroponics and aimed for 18c which slowed root growth extensively.

...soooo... if you were to put a thermometer into your res, what temp are you running at?

Also do you ever change out your res water or it is entirely k.i.s.s. on your end?

I run a temp and humidity controlled room, so I can make ambient temp whatever I need it.

Last time i rooted 25 inch cuts at 18C/65F. Few drops of bleach and tiny amounts of MKP, maybe 50ppm. 1 gallon DWC cloner.(Smaller cuts in picture)

Higher water temps work against you when you're water cloning. No need to change water out since after 14 days they look like in the picture above.

Years ago when I used a water cloner I just stuck the cuts in the collars and let them root. Plain tap water straight from the faucet with the sprayers running 24/7. That's all I did and always got roots. There is no need for all that stuff you're using.
