ADVICE ON SCROG & WHEN TO FLIP TO 12/12

Hey everyone,

So I have 6 plants that have been in veg for 2 months with a scrog set up. A few places I’ve read say fill the scrog completely then flip to flower others say fill 50-60% and then flip....... when should I flip? During my last grow I ran out of room during the stretch in the scrog and got 4-6 main colas (from FIMing) on each plant and then several 2-3inch buds and canopy wasn’t as even as I wanted so this grow I’d like to keep it even and get colas as big as I can. So when is the best time to flip? Should I flip now? (Cause their getting fairly close to touching each other.) Any help would be appreciated :) Stay medicated.

3x green crack

3x bag seed (that has been monster cropped)

20sq ft scrog with 3”x3” spacing

2x 1500 watt full spectrum LED lights

Temps stay between 73°-78°

5 gallon fabric pots

Happy frog soil

I wouldn't flip yet.

just my 2cents but from what i read about scrobs the purpose is you want to fill it out as 1 big canopy. you can see in yours that you have space. tuck the leaves under fill out the space a little more i think.. it's 3/4th the screen? not sure then flip. from the pics i see a lot of wasted space you can fill with by growing longer and tucking under.

you need to take into consideration that different strains have different stretchs as well not everything will stretch 2x that is just a baseline measurement sativa's stretch more i believe and i've grown some that didn't even stretch 2x as well ( not sativa's but indica hybrids )

There’s not to much wasted space their all separated about 1.5-2ft away from each other and getting close to start running into each other (I guess one of my concerns is them running into each other and not having enough room for when they do stretch) because during my last grow (same exact strains) they stretched 2.5-3 times their size and I ran out of room in the scrog ending up with a couple main colas just cause there was no more room to weave and tuck and was forced growing upwards.

As your aware different plants behave differently when flipped. They say flip when 75% of screen is filled but its only a rough idea and there is no hard rule. Go with your gut since you did this strain before.

What's worse for you? Some bigger colas or some empty space?

What real wattage are you running in there btw?

if you feel it will fill out the net then go for it. if you have doubts grow a little longer and fill it out more. imo you have more experience witht hat strain as well as your own skill set. if you feel you can get better buds by flipping now without issues do it. in the end mistakes are a learning process not a failure.

to help with the stretch i think you can top um before you flip to even the tops out. i see some people adding a 2nd net as well this can probably help you out? not entirely sure

Honestly I’m not sure I liked how I got the 5-6 main colas but I didn’t like how the side branches didn’t produce much however last time I used a T5 4ft 8 tube for veg and flower hoping with LEDS it will be different. Im drawing close to 600watts coming from the wall with these two 1500watt leds

I a=disagree with this. Topping so close to flip will set them back. Also I can't imagine a second scrog screen. I have seen guys use a double screen setup as trellis but not for scrog.

You can get into a troublesome situation if the plant stretches too much. I'd try and avoid that...

that is what i meant screen lol. im sure you've heard of it it's not uncommon but yea i didn't mean like they scrog it twice. as for the topping idk many on youtube top theirs idk what the reason for it is as i can only think of it to slow down growth during the stretch. i think they do it then let it recover then flip. never tried it before though. i was reading an old thread on here just now people talking about the new tops that form. so basically you get more yield but yea you have to veg it longer so they recover and grow out more. worth looking into if interested i suppose but if running a scrog shouldn't even be necessary imo

Lethidox,
I sometimes will make a post merely to clarify...both to the poster and the many random lurkers out there.

I suppose a second screen could be used above a scrog screen as trellis. But better scrog planning is best and was the purpose of the thread.
